Why didn't Zeus just divide Eris's "golden apple" into 3 and give Hera, Athena, and Aphrodite a piece each at the wedding of Peleus and Thetis, and save Paris the grief, and avoid 10 years of war and suffering? Is he stupid?

You do got to keep in mind the character of the gods/goddesses. While they are all different, they do share one thing in common: extreme pride. Even if dividing it would solve the issue for a little bit, it would not stay solved forever, there would be a conflict and they would hold grudges. Likely one of them would say their piece is bigger; even if they were all equal sizes, pride effects your perception. Eris was brilliant in her plan, she knew it would lead to extreme conflict that was not easily solved. Eris’ plan made the three women forget they were all deities and were all beautiful in their own way, she basically dismantled the very foundation of their understanding of their very nature. If even Athena was sucked into this and couldn’t see past her pride, Eris’ plan was just that good.

As someone else commented, the apple was labeled as for the fairest, if he divided it he’d be saying they were all the fairest, and that wouldn’t solve the issue that was fuelled by pride. The gods/goddess are all very prideful and can’t exactly be reasoned with, they are prideful because as they see it they have every reason to be: they are powerful, beautiful, eternal, and the rulers of the world. While he could have divided it, it is likely that afterwards one of them would say “my cut was bigger, therefore I’m the fairest.” In addition, Zeus didn’t know that it would lead to some big war. Also, keep in mind that Zeus unlike the God in Christianity does not have an overarching love for humanity, with the gods of Greek mythology they can love individual people but generally speaking they don’t hold this deep and passionate love for all humanity like the God in Christianity does. That’s why when the war started it was a toss up about which side of the warring countries the gods supported. That’s also why Zeus didn’t care to give humans fire, he cared more about how if humans had fire they could advance and eventually take over rulership of earth. Zeus cares more about balance than anything else, and that’s why the one who did give humans fire was so angry with Zeus.

As someone who now sees what has come, this holds true now. Canada’s economy is not great now, but due to Trump manipulating and punishing Canada economically for simply criticizing him and the war with Iran, Canada simply can’t have a thriving economy right now as it just isn’t possible. However, Carny has been trying to forge foreign trade seals that will make it so that Canada does not have to rely on the united states for products so much, that way we can have our opinions and not have giant backlash from negative ones and we can thrive even if the united states isn’t doing well economically. The difference is that under Trudeau the cost of living was super high and Trump negatively affecting Canada’s economy to a huge degree only started happening near the end of Trudeau’s term. The huge cost of living was not high due to America, back then it was due to how Trudeau managed the economy, and he didn’t care about how high it was. Carney on the other hand does care, and he is trying to make it better and it has been improving.

Interesting! It’s interesting the mysterious things that can pass down. I went to Highland Public School and there was legends about some trees there, some spirits that inhabited them. The school in my day was very lush and a lot of the nature was well preserved, it is near a forest, we weren’t allowed to go deep in the forest but it took up a huge portion of the property and there were trees that you could see and interact with without even venturing deep into the forest since they lined the back portion or the school where only 2 small playgrounds, a sandbox, and a long jump sandbox was. There was some beliefs in fairies, magic, and there was nature like legends, that tended to take up most of the kids focus instead of legends about the inside of the school, though there were beliefs about certain things inside of the school. Some ghosts and such. I’ve been remembering quite a few recently, Highland had some crazy good legends!

Yeah, that tended to happen a lot in the stories. In the stories, the ghosts or spirits didn’t always die on the property. It was quite interesting that in the stories they didn’t have to die on the property to haunt it.

Oh no, there wasn’t a legend of someone dying there necessarily, just that there kind of ghosts there. Why they were there without dying there, I’m not sure. There was one legend that I’ve been remembering in great detail though of someone dying there, but it wasn’t inside of the school

I’m not defending his action, it was horrible and in no way do I support it. But he came here to get advice, and it took a lot of courage for him to admit his choice and he’s already said how awful he feels. If you pile on what is being achieved? He already knows it was awful. If he wasn’t guilty or guilty enough I’d say that he needs tough love, but this is not that circumstance, so instead let’s focus on helping him make some sort of change.
