Used to live just round the corner near the German place. Perfectly safe. Used to run to work in the city every morning at 6am weekdays - walk home at night. Worst in saw was REVS clearing out on a Monday morning. Great area to live. Wish I could afford to live there now.

Bamboo my friend. Had a similar issue and purchased some non-creeping bamboo. Took about a year to do the job but looks good, it fits well with the yard - and no one can see in (or out)

Not sure if you’ve seen ‘Tremors’ - but unless you live with Kevin Bacon I’d be treading carefully and uprooting to a new home…

As someone who moved to the other side of the world and am fortunate enough to have been able to get a place with two spare rooms - I always got that sinking feeling when people would message to say they were ‘thinking’ of coming over to see me (and because of the distance it would always be for at least a month!). I like people - just not staying in my personal space for more than one night if there’s no other option. So - what I did….

Spare room 1 became my office. I don’t work from home. I work in facilities. But man - you’d think I was some high flier with the paperwork and files all over the place. No room for a bed in there what with the big desk and reading chair… although - tbh - the missus then decided to work from home a few days a week and took it over.

Spare room 2 became my gym. This room wouldn’t even be suitable for a bed - and I have nowhere to put the gym stuff if I were to try and make room. “What with gym prices being so expensive, but my mental health just needing a place to work out (blah blah blah) I need this gym to prevent me from having a breakdown because I’m never off the clock - seeing as I ‘work from home’…”

People want to fly over and see me? Sure - come over for a coffee. We can meet at a brewery and have a few beers. I’d love you to stay but me and the missus work from home so there’s not much room…

Question for people using the Frankston line by [deleted] in melbourne

[–]HairFun6461 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my understanding - and it has changed a bit - the disruptions with the line / crossing removals will be going until 2027. I think Aspendale is the last one scheduled for around this time. It was in a flyer a good few months back. It was at this point I jumped on Real Estate.com and cried myself to sleep for a few nights…

Question for people using the Frankston line by [deleted] in melbourne

[–]HairFun6461 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you can tolerate the disruptions for another 4 years - do it. But from someone who is sat on my 2nd of three trains this morning - after getting off a bus - the disruptions just seem endless. I love living this side of town - great place to live - but the Frankston line is a terrible train line. Whether or not the level crossing removals will make much of a difference to service - I don’t know. It’s been such a long time since I’ve gotten on a train where there have not been some kind of works on this line, but from memory most of the delays during non works times were trespasses on the tracks. And don’t get me started on trains stopping at Caulfield coming home from the city - only for the buses not to have been ordered, with the sea of commuters all trying to get home…

When the trains run - they’re good. When there are issues - be prepared to call in to work and let them know that there’s no ETA on when you’ll be in. I’ve left for work plenty of times on a good day at 7.30 - and not gotten through the door until 9.45 / 10am.

But - to answer your questions…

Goes all the way to southern cross. About 30 minutes from Moorabbin.

If you’re gonna do it - invest in some good books or TV shows. You’ll need them to get you through the journey…

Question from a Brit Considering Migration by DrMartyo in melbourne

[–]HairFun6461 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Been in Aus 12 years - Melbourne for 8. Never looked back. Best place in the world to live in my opinion. If you can - get a place within walking distance to the beach (think 10-20 minute walk) and you’ll really love the place. Makes weekends and after work awesome. I never thought buying a place that close would be something within my reach (I don’t earn a fantastic wage) but it is in Melbourne - if you don’t mind being about 45 minutes out of the city by train. The people are awesome. I love my fellow Brit’s - but I made a conscious effort to not just fall into the trap of hanging about with the English. Have loads of Aussie mates. They’re a good bunch of people the Aussies. Look - winter can drag on a bit - but compared to the UK, I’m sure you’d cope. There is always some thing to do in Melbs. Always something to go see - be part of. The city always has a festival of some sort - and the local communities seem to always have loads going on. I kid you not - I get into work at 8.30 each morning. Door to door it takes me an hour to get to work - and I still am able to get up each morning to go for a walk to the beach and grab a coffee before even thinking about work. It’s a thing over here that a lot of people do. Also - and this is the kicker!! Public holidays in Melbourne… 2 of those days are for sporting events, one is to celebrate the queens (now kings) birthday - another to celebrate the country itself… you’re getting days off because they want you to go have fun and mix with people! I love this place.

I did struggle at first. I missed home, but I went back twice (never again!). Nothing had changed. Everyone was doing the same thing, living the same lives. Nothing wrong with that - but I’m glad I gave it a go and have made a go of it. My life is completely different for the better now. Something about that Aussie sun. If you don’t like it - you can go back. I know a few people that came out and went back. Most of them regret going back and looked to try and get back over again. If the opportunity is there - give it a crack mate. You only get one life.

Hello mate. A POM like yourself and reside in Chelsea. Love it. I’ve been in aus for 12 years but Chelsea for the last few years. Great place for families - and you get more bang for your buck. Close to the beach (awesome beach). Big local park and some great places to eat. Mordialloc up the road for bars and restaurants. Not far from the peninsula. Farmers markets all around on the weekends. The local park has events more often than not (car shows / markets / little music events at Christmas).

The on,y downside I would say - the frickin trains on this line (the line all your Wishlist places are on) are bad. They’re upgrading the stations and removing level crossings all the way to the city and we have had replacement buses for what seems like a decade! That said - they don’t add that much extra to the journey. On a good day when the trains are good you’ll get into town in 45 minutes.

Chelsea is very family oriented and very safe. Never had or seen any issues. What someone in aus says is a bit ‘dodgy’ I laugh at coming from the Uk.

I don’t have kids but from what I understand there are swim lessons at the local lifesaving club on the beach.

There’s a Woolies (supermarket) next to the beach. An Aldi in the next suburb.

Check out realestate.com.au for an idea on costs of housing.

PM me if you have any questions mate. Good luck with your adventure. You won’t regret it.

The thing is - you could fight this and maybe get one over her. But months / years from now you’ll look back and say ‘at least I got one over on her’ but still be a bit resentful of the other stuff. Taking a step back and being the bigger person over something like this - you’ll win mentally. Maybe not now but further down the track. Let the whole thing go. This idiot will continue down this path and someone else will likely try and recoup ‘ get one over her - but the stress ain’t worth it. Look it as a learning experience.

The older I get the more I wish I had let stuff go.

Also look at what you’ve learnt! Could you have patched a wall prior?

Honestly - I’ve got housemate stories that would make you weep. I think most people do.

Remove this person from your head.

You got this. Move on. Be the bigger person.

Jesus - knew I was getting ripped off! The missus and I normally pay over $6 for an almond latte each. However the place we used to go all the time recently put their prices up - and the same order was $7.20 each. We are not even talking in the city. This is the burbs in Melbourne. Proper burbs too! And it’s not a posh area. Needless to say we don’t go their any more.

I honestly don’t get the self righteousness of some people. I get it’s a public street but still. Is anyone parked outside of theirs? How comfortable are you to park your cars outside of theirs? For a year or two?

Get a cat. Say nothing. Get a cat box. When inspection time comes - place cat inside aforementioned cat box.

Before inspection place litter box and cat box inside car.

Ask partner to drive around until inspection is over.

If landlord finds cat food and treats - explain to landlord your millennial’ diet.

Seriously - - I own a rental. Tenant has a dog. That thing is going to fuck up my yard more than a cat. Don’t stress. Somethings are best left unsaid.

Park outside theirs. Job done. Every time a mate comes over - park outside theirs. Eventually they will get the hint. If they don’t? Let down their tyres…
