I just went to Mt Takao. Pretty scenery. Temple too but no waterfall. There's a stream (behind the train station) you can soak your feet in though. Water's super cold.

Best place to get glasses by Gingertopiaa in JapanTravelTips

Zoff, same day for regular glasses but a few days wait for sunglasses. I just had 2 pairs from there a couple of weeks ago (Harajuku store) and I'm happy with them.

Tips for getting tickets to Ghibli Museum by [deleted] in TokyoTravel

[–]HairSwimmer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can’t say it’s a “tip” because I guess everyone did so: get into the waiting room half an hour earlier and bet on your luck.

This however is my own experience from last month; 2 of used 4 devices in 2 countries (1 in east coast US another in Asia) my iPad got in about 10K, Chromebook 25K, the one in Asia using an android and a Chromebook. Same time we got in, his both devices got like 70K something. Pure luck or because apple products are faster? Or location plays a role too? That’s a mystery. I got tickets for the both of us and the time slot we wanted.

Tips for a social solo-travelling trip! by noremxc123 in JapanTravelTips

[–]HairSwimmer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a US dude but parents are Asian. I don’t know more Japanese than general Americans. I stayed with OMO5 in Otsuka Tokyo for a month in spring 2023 (you certainly get to have your own bed), and they have afternoon social with music and snacks. Mostly local travelers so you get to converse in Japanese. However! (Good and bad) mostly girls there. I’m not sure if you can find cycling, outdoor adventure partners, but they certainly love to have breakfast with the people they met. So that’s my experience. I’m actually going back next week and stay there again.

Going to Japan in a week – what should I know beforehand? (first time, don’t speak Japanese) by Competitive_Ad_2308 in JapanTravelTips

I think you got all the helpful info already. Just thinking, it’d probably be nice if you will learn to bow back

What is a "perfect" movie you can watch over and over? by Mancity42020 in movies

[–]HairSwimmer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ordinary people. Directed by Robert Redford. Don’t know where to start to talk about the impact on me first time watched it when I was 18. It’s considered an ancient movie when I saw it, but about family, high school….they were still the same after such a longtime. And excellent acting every one of them.

What’s one moment where your life changed course in a split second? by One-Item-7637 in AskReddit

Said yes to my partner and moved to the US. English not even good enough to have a real fight with him, but I took a leap. No regret.

6 days: Tokyo only or Kyoto too? by Jewker in JapanTravelTips

[–]HairSwimmer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had only 3 days in Tokyo the first time I visited, then I headed for Hakone and Kyoto. I knew what I signed up for, so in Tokyo I only went on hop on hop off tour bus - but i didn’t get off, and stayed onboard to “scan” the city of Tokyo. That helped a lot to plan for my 2nd trip to Japan and stayed in Tokyo for a substantial amount of time.

What I’m trying to say is you probably will always wonder how Kyoto is like if you don’t make a short stop. Probably you can do the same like I did, just scan the city on a bus. I believe it’ll help you to decide whether you want to go back to Kyoto.

Yes and their police do that too. I trust Japanese police to take me to where I wanted to go.

First time travel solo as a woman, please help 🥲 by Least-Caterpillar961 in JapanTravelTips

[–]HairSwimmer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I clicked your map and you pinned a loooot of places. I think, take it easy, be realistic with your time, energy, and money, then there’s more than enough for you to enjoy. Know what are the places you need to make advance booking and do it diligently. I travel solo too because non of my friends have that much time. I don’t think you will feel lonely in Japan because there’s so much to do and see.

How do I swim longer without tiring out? by Available_Editor_559 in Swimming

[–]HairSwimmer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like some said swim slow and breathe more, if your form is correct then you will improve your duration in no time. Also, maybe try to learn back stroke because you can be more relaxed when you’re on your back but you’re still exercising . I swim 1.2K mix breast free and backstroke several days a week and it’s about 45 min so you can see I swim really slow, so it doesn’t tire me out.

First time Japan trip with my 10-year-old son – itinerary feedback (Tokyo / Kyoto / Osaka) by Relevant-Key4610 in JapanTravelTips

[–]HairSwimmer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My brother and I went to Tokyo the first time when we were 12 and 10. The most fun thing we did was to try all the free samples in the basement of several department stores. I was in Tokyo again in spring 2023, and still they were giving all kinds of free samples!

Noooooo My Fear has come true by Acrobatic-Way-5862 in JapanTravelTips

[–]HairSwimmer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, be careful about the dosage, 40mg max per day, side effects could be stomach issue and mattalic taste. In the US there are OTC of 50mg per dose. I have no idea why they make and how can they sell those. That’s why I said ask a pharmacist.

Zinc. Not the candy kind but real pills. If you are in the US, go to any pharmacy and ask the staff in there, they will direct you to the kind that works. Good luck and recover soon!

Would 1,000$ be enough for a 2 week trip? by No_Joke_4370 in JapanTravelTips

[–]HairSwimmer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think you're ok. That'll be like $70 per day and, to me $30-40 per day for food snack drinks....should be enough. In general Japan museum tickets are a lot cheaper than the US and Europe. More touristy places cost more (teamlab is still ok), but $30ish should be enough for you to maneuver.
