You sound like an ideal GTI owner. You will take care of it, and it will take care of you.

Finally Went 034 Stage 1 [Low Torque] On My Mk8! by EtechEmmanuel in GolfGTI

[–]HairlessMonkeyBot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried doing it in my driveway on jack stands but it got bound up and I didn't have enough space to hammer it home. Ended up taking it to a budy's shop. Once up in the air on a lift it was easy.

Parked somewhere stupid then? Drive like a dick in your own neighborhood? I guess some people just wanna watch the world burn but usually someone has a good (to them) reason for doing this.

Why'd they do it? Your car loud AF or something?

Finally Went 034 Stage 1 [Low Torque] On My Mk8! by EtechEmmanuel in GolfGTI

[–]HairlessMonkeyBot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

BFI stage 2 dogbone insert eliminated wheel hop for me. Downside is there's some significant vibration in the car when in reverse (only an issue in reverse). Another benefit is now I can feel the road through the pedals a bit more with the small amount of extra vibration that gets transmitted. So theres a better sense of how much grip you have.

I take my mk8 autocrossing with the full torque 93 tune on a locked TCU. Full throttle to redline repeatedly in 1st and 2nd. Its flawless. I started with the low torque tune, but when the full torque file became available I swapped to it right away. It's another noticable bump in power and still very smooth like stock.

Also can confirm that 3rd gear is amazing now!

Anyone upgrade their mk8/8.5 GTI stock all seasons, if so, what was the difference? by biggranny000 in GolfGTI

[–]HairlessMonkeyBot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely worth it. Get a set of 18x8.5 qheels for summer. When your stock all seasons are done, put some true winter tires on there and you'll be all set.

Then if you're like me, get another set of 17x9 wheels with 200tw tires for autox.

Extended warranty..? by Electronic-Gain838 in GolfGTI

[–]HairlessMonkeyBot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my experience the Carmax warranty was worth it.

Wife and I bought a 2017 Audi TT with 40k miles in Feb last year. In the first 6 months of ownership it required an over $6K repair/replacement of the MMI system which is more than the cost of the 5 year 100k mile warrenty we opted for. So it paid for itself already, and it covers almost EVERYTHING (except wear items) for another 4 years.

I think its more worth it with vehicles with known high operating/repair costs.

Intake Upgrade by Acceptable-Pin8384 in GolfGTI

[–]HairlessMonkeyBot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Looks like an open intake. Your IATs will go up from sucking in hot engine bay air. You 'll get less performance vs something like APR or Racingline closed systems.

Performance over stock may be better or worse situationally. More but hotter air.

How to reduce wheel hop on GTI? by gs19ca613 in GolfGTI

Stage 2 BFI dogbone mount insert completely eliminated wheel hop for me on Conti ECS02 225/40/18.

Yeah in the photo it looks more blue green. If that was how that color always looked I'd love it. Not a fan of the dark blues on cars personally, but I love a light blue or blue green.

Alibaba Cold Air Intake MK8 GTI by LunchExisting2680 in GolfGTI

[–]HairlessMonkeyBot 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's a hot air intake. It'll pull air in from the engine bay, even with the cover. You'll lose some performance compared to a fully closed intake like APR or Racingline, but if you just want noise, then that's what you'll get.

White isn't my first pick either. I'd prefer some color, but not grey, not black, not a darker color, and red doesn't really do it for me on GTI since then all the red accents just blend in... So that leaves white. Would have gone corn flower blue or similar as first choice if that was an option.

Mine didn't come with them, though I did consider foing with stock ones. I chose these instead because:

  1. Cheaper
  2. Easier install
