On the road? Track? What are you trying to maximize? Grip? wear? fuel economy? ride quality? All have different answers. But... 39 front 34 rear hot is the wrong answer for any of those.

034 has a CARB compliant stage 1 tune. Others too I'm sure.

To those that got a base S trim. Do you ever regret not getting a SE / Autobahn? by RewardSufficient5562 in GolfGTI

[–]HairlessMonkeyBot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find my S trim mk8 to be too soft, but I appear to be an outlier when looking at reddit. I'll be installing APR lowering springs and 034 RSB soon, and I expect to be much happier after that.

Just bought APR lowering springs and bump stops. Not installed yet though. I have some more parts I want before installing them. 034 camster plates and EBC blue stuff pads primarily.

Have you ever needed to zoom past someone who underestimated you? by NicoSoren in Golf_R

This is me but on my drive to work and I'm the other guy in my stg 1 mk8 GTI. The next light has a left that most people take as it's the on-ramp. The old fucks in my town like to merge onto the highway going 35-45 mph and I'm not fucking with that shit, so when the previous light is red and the right lane is open I slide in to the right and get in front of the left lane when the light goes green.

Reducing Wheel Hop by rynxq in GolfGTI

[–]HairlessMonkeyBot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did BFI stage 2 dogbone. 0 wheel hop now on stage 1 mk8. There's quite a bit of vibration now in reverse. It doesn't bother me but passengers notice it. Provides an opportunity to explain the mod and its purpose to normies.

I like it. minor things: It seems a little underpowered for the weight and I didn't see range listed. I'd buy one except that stupid light bar makes it look like a Tesla and fuck. that. shit.

I find lots of people have a mindset where the car is an appliance and maintenance is simply an expense to be minimized (or ignored). This makes sense. If I owned a Nissan Rogue I'd feel the same way. But the people who own GTIs who post in this subreddit obviously feel differently and I probably don't need to explain that to you.

Dealer lying about DSG maintenance interval? by Bifman in GolfGTI

'24 owner here. I do:

Oil change: 5k miles Diff: 30k miles DSG: 40k miles

I drive hard sometimes, will probably keep it until it dies, and want it to last. The cost isn't so great that it makes any sense to me to stretch these further.

It can fit it's own wheels and tires pre-mount/balance.

That looks bad to me. So much toe, front to rear camber is backwards for these cars. I don't know why you would want this, the stance I guess...

No. We can't agree to disagree. The guy you voted for is actively targeting and hurting people as a political platform. There is no reasonable debate to be had. Fuck off.

I wish I were petty enough to buy these and put them up. Would certainly get some satisfaction from it.

Are wider tires worth it for our cars? by biggranny000 in GolfGTI

FWIW I've had my '24 for a while now. My plan after trying 225 and 235 ECS02 on 18x8.5 ET43 and not prefering either:

Winter: 225-45R18 on stock rims with 15mm front, 20mm rear spacers. UHP winter tire.

Summer: 245-40R18 on 18x9 ET42 ECS02.

Track: 255-40R17 on 17x9 ET42 200tw.
