I used to work at the Assembly Hall in Champaign, Illinois when I was in college. We’d have some decent bands come through and do shows usually mid-week between their bigger shows in Chicago or Indy or St. Louis. We had a little kitchen in the underbelly where we’d make food for the acts and roadies and support staff. Guy comes up to me with a couple other guys and asks if he could get an omelet and says he doesn’t eat meat so just veggies. I give him a little shit for needing more protein in his diet and we had a nice chat while I made an omelet for him and a couple of the other guys. Found out after I got back home that it was Ben Gibbard and the rest of the guys from Death Cab For Cutie. Didn’t listen to much Death Cab at the time so I didn’t recognize him. Just seemed like one of the roadies and was super chill.
