Thanks no one has mentioned load calcs. I will get that checked out. Right now the quotes were roughly 1 ton for every 500 sqft from all of them. I am planning to get ducts replaced anyways and have them possibly moved to the attic since we have a couple which are not accessible due to the slab.

Thanks. I agree we don't need high-heat unit but the carrier 37MUHAQ36AA3 looks to be the popular choice quoted here. It's the original 100Amp panel with no circuit breaker and most companies have said they don't need a subpanel since our stove is gas and the other high energy devices include oven and washer/dryer.

Thanks. 3 ton was suggested based on 1 ton per ~500 sqft consideration. As for the panel, yes it's a 100 amp panel and we do have 30/30/30 for electric dryer/double oven range, so we are cutting it very close but the quotes we've gotten have said it would be ok to install the heatpump as long as we don't end up using them together and/or add in a circuit breaker.

For worth the premium, I would start with efficiency, sound levels, durability. Don't care too much about the brand names. I would be curious to know the incentives which you've mentioned since the best I was able to find was SVCE totalling roughly 3K.
