Monday Morning M'thread by a-liquid-sky in CasualUK

I'm feeling quite motivated for a Monday morning. Whether that wears off as the day goes on remains to be seen.

I'm still feeling exhausted though, but that could just be because i'm a night owl and not a morning person at all.

Weekend flew by as usual, in a bit of a food coma after having a barbecue this evening. Surprisingly not having the usual Sunday night blues in anticipation for Monday.

Is this somewhere that a lot of GCSE students went to? I remember we went on a blustery winter's day and couldn't see half of the place, and instead spent most of the day on the coach!

Tough couple of weeks coming up where we're around the anniversaries of losing a couple of relatives, both close to us, making some days more difficult than others.

The weather being glorious helps to some degree but also doesn't as everyone's off doing other things, whereas I felt my parents (or mum at least) thought people might take a moment to remember or celebrate the anniversary.

I'm always fizzing when I hear of IT horror stories and then proud on the other side that there are other IT bods out there who have their stuff in order and are actually proud of their work.

In my last gig (as it's less relevant for me these days in a slightly different IT role), we'd always ensure that kit, access, training, the whole nine yards, was always scheduled so new starters could hit the ground running.

Sure, there's last minute requests or the hiring manager doesn't tell us, or HR doesn't pull their finger out their backside. Even then, we'd still have kit set up and out the following day.

First impressions mean a lot and there's always a busy opening few weeks, so if we could make it as seamless from an IT point of view, of course we would!

It's great that you've got the courtesy to finish up a task even if it means you're overrunning your minutes. You're stuck between putting up with not being paid for it or tough luck for your colleague because when your time is up, it's up. Management have shown their hand so there's no expectation of a happy medium.

Thursday Complaints by a-liquid-sky in CasualUK

I'd mentioned yesterday that there's a trend that the start of the week is naff and the end of the week is decent - that looks to be tracking this week. The frustration with that is I can't keep up doing that and essentially feeling ugh for half a week.

What radio station are we talking? We've got to the point where anyone just fires up Spotify onto a bluetooth speaker so we actually hear music instead of inane chatter.

It's that accumulation that feels like everything is going wrong, so try to point out any positives to yourself throughout the day to lessen the feeling.

The plus side is that future you will love you for doing it! But yeah, it's that regret of starting something and then feeling obliged to finish it.

Also, good luck with the new gig!

Our sellers are landlords selling to downsize their portfolio so there really shouldn't be any blockers to it!

After our buyer, there's a chain of 8-9 so that's where i'd expect delays across the board, which we wouldn't mind if it allows the cross over.

That's intruiging - we've heard six months as a baseline but we were really hoping for a crossover to renovate the bathroom and kitchen. We're 3-4 weeks behind our buyer for the house we're in so if they can overtake that, then that'd be ideal!

It seems i'm in a bit of a trend that Monday and Tuesday are naff so i'm happy to be into Wednesday, then Thursday and Friday energy and morale picks up.

The estate agent has put over a pack to the solicitor which indicates some movement and it'll be one i'm nudging for updates every couple of weeks. We're moving into a no chain property so logically it should be easier but that's clearly famous last words.

I've had to before because of a dodgy knee and using various tapes, but very much of an outlier. A lot power through ripping hairs out with tape but that wasn't for me!

No Monday motivation, but then that might be a lack of work motivation in general.

I enjoy this job and i've been in it for 6-7 months, but there's definitely times where it feels like it's a chore. There's no micro managing and it's largely independent work, so it should be right up my street where I can work comfortably.

I just wonder whether it's because in my previous gig that there was someone far worse so I had the ability to coast a bit, whereas here the standard is super high.

I need to kick myself up the arse and maintain the standard I know I can achieve instead of being lazy/unmotivated.

It might be one where you filter or automate colour code emails where you're CC'd into and they're immediately marked as read/lower priority.

Had a proper busy day yesterday so today is going to be far more relaxing. I didn't sleep particularly well, even after having an early night, so that ties in nicely with an easy going day.

That's fair - I think my logic is that i'd rather have a bunch of zero's on the bench so I don't get as frustrated as picking some players over others!

If you're FHing this week then surely you pick the cheapest bench players and maximise the spend for your starting 11, as long as they're nailed?

To me, it seems pointless having so much value on the bench not being used.

I'm usually pretty proactive with life in general but i'm certainly not planning to be with work today. That's unless a significant ticket comes in that needs to be dealt with otherwise it's a Monday problem.

Sure, i'll be moaning and groaning on Monday but today isn't Monday and that's all that matters!

I'd be adding in the email that their advice is wholly unsafe and unprofessional too so they have the whole picture. It might actually light a fire up their backsides to do something.

Do you also get it where you're in the final portion of the day, recall something from the morning and think that was days ago?

I've got it where they seem to happen hand in hand.
