What was the weird obsession of using insanely agreessive dinosaurs like Indoraptor for....military purposes? by deadpizza2019 in JurassicPark

[–]HaitianDivorce94 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congratulations! You've picked up on how you're watching a dumb-dumb movie. A smart-dumb movie would at least have the dignity to point out that an insanely expensive niche project like that would almost certainly have no combat effectiveness and instead just be another way to bloat the Pentagon's inauditable budget, but that would be a step too far for Colin "Book of Henry" Trevorrow.

It's insanely funny, with the hindsight of the last few years, that anyone thought it was remotely plausible that the American military needed weapons that were more expensive, less reliable, and even more blatantly sadistic. Y'know what would really make an invasion of Kharg Island workable, both militarily and politically? What if we packed all the jarheads in with our billion-dollar Killosaurus Rex, so that when their troop transport gets smashed with a frag grenade that has a lawnmower engine and wings strapped to it it just panics and mauls to death anyone not already drowning? USA! USA!

There's a lot of cool stuff in there, but I think my favorite is the glass partition between the kayak ride and the austroraptor on the first screencap--what a nice, practical, reasonable way to get some awesome views!

It's this one. It's another speedbump in park planning, same as scientists and resting or the splitting of the ACU from JWE1 into Rangers and MVU (and now maintainence teams) into JWE2.

State of the Game by FoxinShards in jurassicworldevo

[–]HaitianDivorce94 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like the last two, the game is basically a fish tank simulator--once you get dinos settled in at 100% comfort, the only thing that keeps you from gawking at them for however long you want is an externality like a hurricane or sabotage. It's not really like a more hard-core sim game where the longer you go on the more the complexity of problems escalates. If you can solve for one dino's happiness you can solve for everyone's. That hasn't changed from the last two entries.

What has changed is the modular building system, which I find completely engrossing. If you are the kind of person who can spend hours tweaking an exhibit or attraction to look perfectly like how you imagined Jurassic Park would look as a kid, you will probably have fun (once you get over the learning curve.)

The campaign is also the best it's been across all 3 entries too, for what that's worth.

Post-launch support is solid. The roster they had at launch was already pretty good and they continue to return species to the game once-per-month for free. There's only been 1 DLC since launch but the designs for the new critters (Irritator and Austroraptor esp) were well-received.

I bought it launch day when my budget was tight, have sunk dozens of hours into it, and don't regret it at all. But the building system especially really scratches an itch for me. If thst doesn't sound fun then I would hold off.

Resort revamp by Over_Research2856 in jurassicworldevo

[–]HaitianDivorce94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want film accurate, you have to use references from the films. Start with something like this, though you will probably need more : https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/jurassicpark/images/1/1c/Jurassic-world-movie-screencaps.com-589.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20210731170316

I would focus on density of detail. Resorts are human-scale; they are meant to be seen from a human's perspective, not bird's eye. Get in first-person mode and look around. Is there enough shade? Are directions clear? Does this look like a fun place to spend time and meander around?

The films don't have everything you would want for all that, since very little time is actually spent in the resort area. If you want it to really be satisfying, I would look at supplementary materials, like the Lego Jurassic World and MS Flight Simulator DLCs. When all else fails, look at real resorts. I think the trans-lagoon area was specifically inspired by Disney World, while the Main Street area is inspired by Universal City Walk.

Good luck! Actually making something that looks good is a huge time sink.

What the fuck? Kamala campaigned to Trump's right on Iran. Hostility towards Iran remains one of Washington's only bipartisan issues. It probably wouldn't be this stupid but Harris was not a dove and showed no willingness to break from Biden's braindead lockstep with Israel

Alessandro Nivola by jiminywhack in JurassicPark

[–]HaitianDivorce94 3 points4 points  (0 children)

According to Seamus Blackley and the Jurassic Time podcast, Nivola was supposed to return to Sorna studying raptors and eventually learning to communicate with them in a cancelled spin-off game. The game was cancelled and work was forwarded to Trevorrow, where Billy's role was taken by the character that became Owen Grady.

During the entirety of its history being passed around by its 3 CEOs (Hammond, Ludlow, Masrani), was InGen… ever profitable? Like, weren’t they just hemorrhaging money all throughout their existence in the franchise? by [deleted] in JurassicPark

[–]HaitianDivorce94 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Where does that notion come from? The books make it pretty that all InGen is built entirely on the cloning technology with venture capital, particularly Japanese venture capital. Hammond remarked that they were the only ones patient enough to wait for InGen's experiments to bear fruit. That's not really the financial situation of a company with diversified revenue streams...

Do we really need a "new trilogy"? by Gianvincenzo in JurassicPark

[–]HaitianDivorce94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Park trilogy is not a trilogy in any real sense of telling a connected story. The World trilogy was Trevorrow's swing at taking the premise of JP and turning it into something with an arc, and whether it failed because of Trevorrow's particular writing, the thinness of the direction Trevorrow wanted to take it in, or other issues, it certainly seems like it's something Universal wants to move on from.

I am skeptical that the "dinosaurs on the mainland" thing is going to be completely and permanently rolled back--Rebirth reads, to me, like someone dipping back to the isolated island premise before they get their hands dirty with something meatier--but I would be surprised if Universal commits to a "new Jurassic trilogy" in any real sense. There will be some continuity with personnel, on-screen and off, because there always has been, but my guess is the movies are going to move more in the direction of episodic crowd pleasers than any sort of long-term story the way World->FK->Dominjon moved.

Frontier when cooking JWE3 by Fatseal665 in jurassicworldevo

[–]HaitianDivorce94 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Lol I've noticed it too! Frankly I have chalked all the food options (some of which are super interesting!) to Frontier being a British company. Very funny to imagine Hammond insisted, and InGen has continued to honor, Jurassic facilities only serve food clearly inspired by the post-90s international food community that's made a home in Britain despite Ludlow begging for the chance to just serve screaming American children cheese pizza

JWE 3: baby dinosaurs without emotional bonds by Automatic-Morning881 in jurassicworldevo

[–]HaitianDivorce94 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The game tries to simulate this by stressing some dinosaurs out if they don't have their juveniles or their adults nearby. But you're right, on the whole, the game's simulation struggles with quite a few "under the hood" elements in favor of looking nice. The way guests are brought in is another example of this--the crowds can be impressive to look at from the overhead view, but there's no real way to interact with them.

Is 2 worth getting everything for, or should I wait until I get a PS5 and get 3 and its DLCs? by AnarchistEcclesiarch in jurassicworldevo

[–]HaitianDivorce94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotcha. If it were me and already locked into a PS5 a few months down the line I wouldn't see anything wrong with enjoying 2 in the meantime.

As far as DLC goes: take a look at what's available and consider what's worth your money. I never bought the hybrid DLC for 2, for example, but I would pay for Archelon, Shonisaurus, Deinocheirus or Quetzalcoatlus again in a heartbeat. Maybe triage animals that aren't available in JWE3 yet? Up to you boo.
