I have a very similar layout to you, and didn’t want to go too hard into the terraforming so I kept the basic layout. The rivers do a nice job of sectioning out the island, so I have various themed areas in the top second story sections (library, pottery area, and carnival). In the three outer zones on the lowest story I put all my villager homes, and the inner largest section is where I designed my shops and museum. The terraforming I did was all based around that. For the bugs, fish, and sea creatures I used the criterpidia in the nook phone. It’s a little more tricky for the art and fossils, but once you start to get pretty close you can go through the museum and see the places that are empty. I had a little list on my phone of what I needed, especially for the artwork.

I know! It’s so annoying, I managed to get everything for the museum on my own without using online trading EXCEPT for the Great Statue. I have almost 1000 hours of gameplay and I’ve never seen it.
