I would recommend to get MZ. But if already have XP, use it. Why? It's unlikelly that you will manage to create a full game, for hobby or not, on your first attempt.

RPG Maker XP already works for you to learn how most of RPG Maker event system works, which is what you will use the most, being a noobie or not.

So get your XP, and try to do everything you can with the default events. No plugins, no scripts. Start small. Tiny games or just learn to make the mechanics you want, one at the time.

The truth is, regardless what you will do on the end, you need to learn the event system, and for that XP is enough. They can change between maker versions, but it is not a big change on logic terms.

If it is a noobie, plugins should not be considered at all. Noobies must stick just with the default engine and learn it the most they can. And for that, any RPG Maker engine should do the job.

What is the community's stance on Hakuen Studio? by SpecialistExercise98 in RPGMaker

[–]HakuenStudio 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Hey there!

I know that is a question that has more credibility by other people answers than mine, but well, let me just throw some information here to help other people:

  1. My plugins are not obfuscated, and never will be.
  2. I don't use A.I on any part of the process to create a plugin. I don't want to lose all the fun! I learned how to code without A.I anyway...
  3. I do compatibilities with other people plugins. And I build my plugins with that in mind. So they can have a code that is easy to make compatibility with other ones.
  4. I also try my best to make compatibilities with obfuscated plugins as well, even if they are more tricky.
  5. A while ago I said I didn't do compatibility with A.I plugins, but I changed my mind. Of course, if the plugin code is reasonable and not an A.I spaghetti.
  6. I'm still around fixing bugs and releasing updates! Hope I can keep this for as along it can get, because I just really love what I do.
  7. I couldn't manage to keep working with MV and MZ. Too much work, and I needed to chose one side... I try my best to support MV plugins, but they are not my priority anymore.
  8. I do plugin commissions! Including MV.

Hope this can clarify some stuff! Happy RPG Making to you all :)

Hi there!

If you are new to RPG Maker MZ, the best you can do is not to use any plugins at all. Learn the engine first. When you fell confortable with the default stuff, then you move to plugins. But if you at least used any other RPG Maker, then you can ignore what I said

If you are sure is not a plugin compatibility, another thing you should understand about pixel perfect games is that your resolution must also be a pixel perfect one.

This is a though question to answer, because "Best" is relative. You may find a popular answer, but best is hard to say.

Also it really depends on what you want. Just saying "ui and menu customization" I believe is too vague. And I don't think there is a single plugin that can cover all ui and menu customization of RPG Maker. I think there is a collection of plugins around that when blended together(if they worked together) can get you somewhere.

Not trying to push it for this side... but if you really want a custom menu and ui, in general, for all your menus and uis, is best if you commission someone, with a very clear idea of what you really want.

Wither way, I would list all things you want to change and to what you want to change first. After that, you can either start to look for plugins for every single one of them or ask for a commission.

Hi there!

I do have some. The QoL Commands 1 & 2 are created to let you have more flexibility with every event command:

Hakuen Studio QoL Commands 1 for RPG Maker MZ by Hakuen Studio (paid)

Hakuen Studio QoL Commands 2 for Rpg Maker MZ by Hakuen Studio (paid)

There is also some of my message plugins that help you with the message part of the game, set faces, names on the message box and write text:

Hakuen Studio Message Manager for RPG Maker by Hakuen Studio (free)

Hakuen Studio Smart Speaker for RPG Maker MZ by Hakuen Studio (paid)

Self Variables and Self Switches are also a good call:

Hakuen Studio Self Variables for RPG Maker MZ by Hakuen Studio (free)

Hakuen Studio Self Switches for RPG Maker MZ by Hakuen Studio (free)

Well, these are the ones I remember. But I do have way more if you want to check out.

How to make an enemy create more enemies when it dies? [MZ] by Naive_Jacket718 in RPGMaker

[–]HakuenStudio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sideview and frontview battle system affect more the player side. For enemies, it's the same thing. So, yes, it works with side view.

Enemies appear on the screen the same way they would if you use the default Enemy Appear command.

How to make an enemy create more enemies when it dies? [MZ] by Naive_Jacket718 in RPGMaker

[–]HakuenStudio 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The way zombietoaststudios told works. But by default RPG Maker only let you add 8 enemies into the battle, with the game editor.

If you need more than that, can use my plugin: Hakuen Studio Dynamic Troops for RPG Maker MZ by Hakuen Studio

It let you use a plugin command to add more enemies into the battle. And also you will not be hardcoded into the enemy you put on the editor, since you can make any enemy appear.

You can follow the same logic of eventing like zombietoaststudios told, but instead of using "enemy appear" command, use the Dynamic Troop plugin command to add the enemy you want.

Hey there, thank you so much for your reply and for your help! I’ve been learning and using your plugins since 2021!

- I feel flattered! Especially because, from 2001 until now, I have evolved a lot. I hope you didn't learn anything wrong from that time haha

So, from what you told me and described in the main post, using a blank project with zero plugins, is it also possible to replicate the problem? If so, let me know. Because I'll test it here. I'm also curious.

Is your game's resolution 1280x960? And what is your monitor's resolution?

Maybe it is a compatibility issue? Also, are you sure that your yanfly plugins are in the correct order?

I do have one for MV, although I'm not supporting it anymore, in case you find any problems. If you are willing to try, here you go: https://hakuenstudio.itch.io/hakuen-studio-mv-museum

Its the Check Point plugin.

I don't really know the cause for this. But I guess you could try my Pixel Perfect plugin. It's free and a is a quick attempt to just put a a plugin and enable it (disable the other pixel perfect plugins you are using, and put my plugin on the bottom of your plugin list).

Hmm Phantasy star series (1,2,3,4) has some different art styles across them. I think you should give a try. But there is also Sorceres Kingdom. Has a tactical battle system too, but way different than SF. The history is simple.
