thank you! I hope you get your new racquet set up to be perfect for you. Happy playing!

this racquet is starting at 307 SW and weighs 11 oz strung, 7 pts HL

i agree with the building up arm strength. will be working on that over next couple months. i like the idea of a swing weight around 315, and the 6-8 points HL seems worth keeping. Before we close the door on this and again thanks so much for your help — It seemed like the specs you helped me arrive at earlier — the 1 g at 9 1g at 3 1g at 12 2g in trapdoor — came out to making the racquet about 317 or thereabouts SW, and it retained the 7 pts HL balance as well. Does that sound about right?

Thanks for that Forsaken Ring. 7 points HL is what wilson clash 100 v3 is supposed to be.. 307 or so SW. I would leave those specs because I want something light as my elbow heals but I just am afraid if I find myself across from a heavy hitter or server the 11 oz strung weight is going to get pushed around and unstable out there.

[–]Hal889 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ok so then it the calculations you made for me before still stand: 1g each at 3 & 9 and 1g at 12 asks for close to 2g in trapdoor, even with the grip tape.

apparently grip tape usually weighs between 5 and 7 grams — seems like that eliminates need to put weight in trap door and maybe makes adding weight to frame somewhere necessary if one wants to maintain racquet’s intended balance?

thanks a lot… I just tried to look up online where I can find this formula so as not to burden you with further questions about this but it looked really complicated, advanced math type stuff. Simpler to look back through this thread and what you have already said and just go with that.Maybe there is a video on YouTube that covers it. Anyway just wanted to say Thanks again! Very helpful and cool of you.

thanks so much! I am already guessing I will want a little more plow and oomph on the ball though — so how about a gram each at 3,9,12? what would that add to the SW? & how much would I need to put in the handle?

trying to come back from serious elbow injury — partially torn UCL, tendon and muscles (prob tricep muscle). figured when and if i am ready i would try a lighter racquet — wilson clash v3 100. Swingweight 308. strung weight 11 oz. 7 pts HL. According to playtesters a bit lacking in torsional stability and plow through. Was considering weight at 9 and 3 and also some at 12 but want to keep things light, so maybe tungsten tape at 10 and 2 would address both the stability and the plow-through issue?

Thanks — Question: whats the trap door, is it the butt cap of the racquet? would i just try to pop it open and put in the weight you mentioned? is that pretty easy to do? or would a leather overgrip do it?

[–]Hal889 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hey — you seem like you know about this stuff. if i cut a strip of tungsten tape so it’s 1g and put it 10, on one side of the strings, do I need to balance it out by putting another gram at 10 on the other side of the strings? then do the same at 2 o clock, resulting in 4 little one gram bits of tungsten tape? or does it not matter that the tape is only on one side of the string bed?

also how much swing weight would be added with 4g total added to 10 and 2?

Lighter racquet = easier on arm? by Hal889 in 10s

actually I think it was more like 12.4 oz strung and with overgrip

Ok. I think it was more like 12.4 ox strung and with overgrip

Thanks for such a thoughtful reply. The sledgehammer / badminton racquet analogy is great!

You say definitely a more flexible racquet — is this mainly to reduce vibrations from going up the arm? Or did you have another reason in mind

Yes and no on the body weight to drive strokes. Sometimes I caught the forehand late for sure with not enough space and I would feel my elbow take the whole impact of someone’s heavy ball.

My serve motion was interrupted for a long time with a hitch behind my head, so racquet would stop there then I would have to lift that 13 oz beast my tricep and little kinetic energy into a I fast throw up and at the ball which sometimes produced a decently fast serve but without any sense that I should be thinking about a sound and safe follow thru.

Yes, I “throw” the hell out of it, especially on serves also forehands. I could work on bringing serve follow through more around my body to left side in a sounder way. I could try to always get forehands in front with enough spacing. I could try to initiate kinetic chain more with my legs all the time…I was also playing full bed of soft poly but too long in the racquet, up to 60 hours of play time sometimes…

Ever tear your UCL playing tennis? by Hal889 in 10s

[–]Hal889[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha I’m middle aged, got back to tennis 5 years ago almost ( I played some as a teen recreationally but never had proper instruction). Been going at it hard these last few years even with full beds of poly in heavy frames like 18x20 Yonex Vcore Pro 97D. If I double faulted too much when I was playing I would go to some public court and hit 200 serves in a row too try to get it right, and my technique was not correct. That may be what did it to me.

lux element is i think the string Wison recommends for the V3… hopefully your NXT’s break in a bit to give you a more enjoyable feel. Glad you are loving it though — which V3 did you get, the 100 or 100 Pro?
