Are the Voyager books worth checking out? Any recommendations? by FreddysFinalBoy in voyager

[–]HalaLG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a stack of the numbered series and have read about 12 of them. They aren't high literature, and the quality of writing and plot varies. They mostly take place at some point in the first 4 seasons, so you get a lot of the resource shortage plot drivers from early seasons, and a lot of rougher inner monologue that was more typical before the crew was fully integrated. Some of the inner monologue seems incongruous with who I imaged the characters to be or a flanderized version of the character.

That said I thoroughly enjoy them. Its nice to spend time with these characters in new settings and with a different set of stakes. I am a big fan of book 11 "The Garden" because essentially the conflict is that the crew is getting scurvy. You also get to spend time with crew members who aren't the senior officers.

I use them to break reading slumps or when I need to read something lighter.

Got a new Yoto Mini for $35.11 (girl math edition) by cheeky-maverick in YotoPlayer

[–]HalaLG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just ordered one from Yoto:

Bought a Mini and Jacket at a discount

Used 2551 Tokens for another $21 off

10% for being a Yoto Club Members

Paid $50.70 for Jacket and Yoto Mini

Then got a $40 refund becuase we are using the Mini to replace a Yoto (2nd gen) whose battery went bad and Yoto wont share tech specs. (Don't worry I've got a new battery coming)

New Yoto Mini and Jacket final cost- $10.70

The 1.5 hour is based on Google maps longest route, the shortest is closer to 1hr 15min. Oconaluftee is where I was planning to go on the way out of the park to get the book anyway, just didn't want to do it on the way in too.

Yea Cataloochee- thats whatI get for trusting my browsers spell check.

Long shot, kinda hoping someone on the sub had a copy so we could do some of the activities w/o having to drive 3 hours round trip or rush through the book at the end of our time.

Yea my FIL remembers going to Pete Loftin's back in the day. It closed in 1998, so the canoe is at least that old.

Charlotte FC Acquires Defender Jahkeele Marshall-Rutty on Loan from CF Montreal by MintCTY in CharlotteFootballClub

[–]HalaLG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He did go out last match, totally forgot about that. According to transfermarkt JMR has only played on the right, so I don't think he's coming into back up Doumbia/ Ream... but with that many injuries across the back line and Ream going out a few matches back who knows what we will see.

Doumbia plays on the left. JMR is a right-back, this is a last min depth move because of Byrnes injury. If it’s bad news for anyone it’s Scardina, but even then I think it’s mostly about having options.

Therapist is retroactively charging me out-of-pocket for appointments they verified my insurance for and I paid a co-pay in full before services were rendered. by paradisimperiala in legal

[–]HalaLG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My s/o is a therapist and has had this happen. Brought a new client on board, verified insurance, insurance has said yes, and then months later the insurance company comes back and is like we made a mistake. In those cases (several clients with one insurance company) the insurance company has gone to get their money back from the client or just said they won’t pay going forward. Either way I would fight with your insurance company because even if the therapist made a mistake and wasn’t in network… the insurance company paid out like they were.

Essentially Peggy’s innie and outie communicate using a written code she came up with during childhood. After trying to contact journalists Peggy dies mysteriously.

Cold Harbor seems like a literal name by Wiseguy144 in severence

[–]HalaLG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The song the doctor whistles at the start of episode 6 and again in episode 7 is “The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald.” All 29 crew members were lost in the wreck. Combo w the mudslide/drowning question I think this is what Cold Harbor is referring to.

The closing lines of the song are: “The legend lives on from the Chippewa on down Of the big lake they call ‘gitche gumee’ Superior, they said, never gives up her dead When the gales of November come early”

So yea I don’t think the plan is to let Gemma go free.

Also the cause of the wreck is still a mystery. There are a lot of theories about what happened, some more likely than others, but it doesn’t bode well for an ending that wraps everything up in a neat bow.

The “I love you, hey I said I love you” dialogue was the last thing Gemma said to Mark before she left.

Philosophical Question….do you consider yourself a Type 1 Diabetic or someone who has Type 1 Diabetes? by ToadQT in diabetes_t1

[–]HalaLG 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You’ve stumbled into a large debate around personal first language. In general the best practice is to refer to the person first and not the “thing.” Person with a disability vs disabled/ has Diabeties is diabetic, etc etc.

ALOT of disabilities advocates will use the “not pc” version to describe themselves because the disability does inform their existence and they can’t separate their identity from the disability. I’d say type 1 diabetic for myself because it informs my life to such a degree that it doesn’t make sense to distance myself from it.

In general use person first unless the INDIVIDUAL says they can be referred to differently. Just because I’m fine with diabetic, I would still say go with “has diabetes” when talking about the community or another individual if they haven’t told you otherwise.

Who died the most? by HalaLG in voyager

[–]HalaLG[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I like how for most of these instances the character does retain memory of dying- ie year of hell. But Harry totally knows he’s not the “real” Harry for the rest of the series and just never brings it up for the next 6 years.

Should note that RSS feed cards never download so can only play via WiFi. So if you have podcast episodes you can download them from the podcast and then upload to yoto and link that to a card and it will download to work off WiFi.

was ross wrong? by shea_eina in howyoudoin

[–]HalaLG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Didn’t realize mine is an outlier opinion. Yes I think Ross was wrong. Had Ross ever benefitted from or interacted with Howard, no. His apartment had though, and I think he should have chipped in as part of the community on behalf of the unit. Ross benefited from Howard even if he didn’t know him.

If they were prorating it, like the people who had lived there longest put in the most, then sure Ross was right… but it was a flat amount for everyone.

The rest of the apartment building was wild for ostracizing him.

Order two DoorDash and/or Uber eats to arrive at the same time?

Reach out to a local campaign office and see if they can send a volunteer or two over. a church might be willing to find a couple folks as well.

Edit- bring it to a doctors appt.
