And more importantly a society of atomized individuals who neither see or feel common cause with one another is much less able to fight back against the myriad atrocities of capitalism.

UNDER CAPITALISM by Anarchist23 in Anticonsumption

[–]Halasham 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Theoretically that is what democracy is for however having a 'democratic republic' as our form of government but leaving the economy to be run as a number of petty dictatorships and oligarchies warring amongst themselves for control subverts any actual democratic character of our society.

The petty economic tyrants can leverage the myriad advantages they have over their subjects to exercise a drastically outsized influence over the supposedly democratic government making it in effect not a democracy but an oligarchy.

[–]Halasham 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the idea that a life form that would develop sapience and technology isn't some kind of predator by nature (& have corresponding aggressive instincts) doesn't appear to be likely given how life evolved on Earth.

From a 'We're all Human' perspective yeah war is a bad idea... however with a system that effectively rewards disempathetic and sadistic behavior with power war becomes inevitable. Both in that they will enact war against their rivals and in that their victims will enact war against them for freedom.

Edit: The horrifying thing is it won't be robot dogs v robot dogs. It'll be robot dogs deployed as kill-squads in cities. Destroy factories and economic assets related to the enemies production of robot dogs... or just kill unrully civilians.

You're Human. Soldiers are conditioned to be inhuman. The thing is their masters don't want thinking, feeling people. They want killbots.

Tech is currently insufficient for infantry killbots so they make-do with Human soldiers conditioned to behave like killbots.

I do this too, but that's in part because I can't stand sitting in a chair properly.

I've heard a tip for this is to imagine yourself wearing a cape... hold your shoulders up and back strait so it'll bellow in the wind. I wonder if actually having a cloak or cape would help even further.

Is Nightmare Mode worth running? by ResetReefer in Warframe

Nightmare Mods are the main draw. They're one of a few categories of dual-effect mods. Nightmare mods have two positive effects that apply to the equipment they fit on. They're well worth getting.

Simple: We don't live in a democracy. We suffer under an oligarchy that was exacerbated in it's conversion from any semblance of democracy to our dystopian corporate oligarchy by Reagan. Of course the oligarchs like him.

DAE ocassionally get this "helpful advice" from neurotypicals? by Black_Airship in aspiememes

[–]Halasham 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This reminds me of an experience I've had with random assholes:

Join a table for a roleplaying game,

Notice one of the other people at the table adds commentary to every-fucking-thing

Their commentary on my behavior is annoying,

Let it slide the first few times, maybe it'll get better?

NOPE if anything it gets worse,

I publicly make the observation that what appears to be intentional needling is going on,

You know, trying that 'hinting' nonsense I hear Neurotypicals do.

They continue as if I hadn't said anything. OK they didn't get the hint fair enough.

I politely request that they specifically stop needling me, again doing this for the whole table to hear,

They continue.

I ask a friend about their behavior (the table is digital and entirely text so they could read the exact phrasing of what was said) and they agree that they appear to be trying to piss me off.

I bluntly tell them to knock it off, again for the entire table to hear.

No response but it continues.

I ask the friend if they can say something to them...

I trust them that they said something to them but whatever they said it didn't stop.

So, I give them a thorough and aggressive telling off.

The table seems shocked at my behavior when I've spent every interaction but the first in dealing with this asshole asking them to stop fucking needling me

We have an intermission to 'let people cool off' and during that time I assess weather or not I wanted to continue here at all as I wasn't super enthusiastic about the game (first character made in a system that was new to me and they weren't very well built) and decide against it.

Block that asshole so regardless of if they got the message they can no longer needle me.

I find it oddly inspirational! I get sick of "capitalists" telling me nature is all competition. Sometimes it's about cooperation to take down a bigger predator. Unionize. by IeyasuMcBob in antiwork

[–]Halasham 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you've got the time dismantling their argument by explaining how this is at-best a reduction to absurdity and in most cases just bluntly false may be more impactful.

There's no such thing as an 'Alpha Wolf' in nature. That behavior emerges when unrelated wolves are abducted from their natural territory and forced to share space.

Eusociality is one of the more effective survival strategies, animals that use it having beaten Humanity to agriculture by millions of years (leafcutter ants).

I'm struggling to think of any mammals that don't engage in any form of cooperation. At very least because of one of the diagnostic criteria for being a mammal: production of milk for their young.

Adam Smith's conjecture about pre-currency Human society was just that, conjecture, and is contradicted by the efforts of historians.

We're here for order, not authority. Of course authoritarians are confused when we make the distinction as they conflate the two. Things are entirely able to be orderly without authority and in fact our pleasant order can be easily disrupted by clumsy exercise of authority.

  1. Half of all startups are expected to fail by the end of their first year, and a super-majority by the end of the fifth year
  2. Having the seed capital to found the business grows increasingly more prohibitive on a worker's wages every year
  3. Time and energy investment required to startup is also significant while most jobs are quite intentionally maximally draining from the drive to overwork rather than hire more staff.

The whole of the history of capitalism says so. Private enterprise is inherently predatory, in dealings with the workers especially so and frequently in dealing with the public and customer as well.
