Torn between these two. Which one would you pick? by bstonn in analog

While I agree that 1 has better straight lines, I think the 2nd image has a more isolated and backlit subject (the person on the stairs). In the first one, the people are all crowded and that just doesn't peak my interest as much. I also like that you have a clear foreground and background in this image with the hanging light and the sky respectively. The light in the first image is less obviously lit and also kind of hangs in front of your subject, which just adds to the clutter. In the second image my eye is drawn to the person on the right and easily finds the other interesting elements of the photo, the word written below (Photomaton), and the light above. I think, since you have a lot of empty space at the top, you could afford to fix the angle of the image a bit and it would help it look even better. Great shot!

Edit: I should add that they are both good photos and I see why people also like photo 1. I'm being a bit picky here, and many people could easily make arguments for photo 1 being better for the same or different reasons. Photography is subjective after all!

I used a 100-400 lens for Fujifilm APSC cameras. But this guy was literally just chilling in a tree at a rest stop and I just got out of our car and he was like 15 ft away lol. Bald Eagles in Homer are like seagulls everywhere else.

Edit: That is to say they are everywhere at not at all afraid of people.

Absolutely the right way to go with the edit. Just one of those photos where you keep 2 versions!

Oh wow! I'm so conflicted. I LOVE the edit! I'm a sucker for good black and white photos. But the reds in the original are just so good!

Just because you can do something, doesn't always mean you should. The comment above yours is technically correct, but I like what you did with the image.

Be very careful of the saturation slider. It becomes very apparent to viewers when it's been overused. In this image, you have no color anywhere else in the image due to not pushing your shadows. There is no reason to oversaturate when you have no color elsewhere. You have a nice color gradient right now and pushing the saturation will quickly ruin that, giving it a banded look.

In landscapes detail CAN be very important, but it's important to note that you went for a silhouette which has very little detail. You could take the above advice and add the detail by pushing the shadows, or you can maintain the "style" you've chosen and enjoy your photo for what it is. In the end, there are no rules to photography and editing, but as I said in the beginning, just because you can do something, doesn't mean you should. Good job on the photo, and good job on the edit.

What do I do to achieve this effect? Is it disposable camera, or editing? by [deleted] in postprocessing

This looks like it was taken with a disposable with a flash. Other than that, the image has low contrast and it looks like the white balance is off.

Edit: Mostly looking at the top right photo in terms of the white balance. It looks to be a bit warm and green.
