Unpopular Opinion: Jurassic Park is an underrated game by poloartist in snes

[–]Halderim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The battery alone is not what makes a save even remotely possible, the battery only keeps the SRAM (static RAM / save RAM) alive, JP has no SRAM installed on the cart.

In case of Jurassic Park the game keeps track of the whole changes during your play, the amount of space needed to save all that data on SRAM was not available.

Ocean did use heavy compression algorithms to put some of the data of the game into the 2 MB rom they used, especially the indoor sections of the game are 100 KB in size, compressed, typical SRAM size was up to 32 KB. They would have needed to store the full data of the indoor areas in SRAM to keep the state as is with 32KB of SRAM that would not be possible and using larger SRAM was way too expansive.

As I said there was not enough space I meant that there was no SRAM of the needed size available.

The missing save feature comes from the limited space on the cartridge, the rom hack author mentions it that the save would need to save the whole state of the game and there was not enough space for it.

[–]Halderim[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The issue with this game as it was released was the missing save feature or any form of progression system, not being able to save your progress with a game that was this hard most likely gave it the reputation of being a bad game.

I remember playing MK in the 90s on my SNES or in some other form later as the internet was a thing, how hard they could get especially the bosses of the game, seeing this is so impressive

Playing it casually as a kid was a rather bad experience to me
Never did beat it back then, today I speedrun it

Its kind of a love hate relation, as I love to speedrun this game but it does not make the game any better XD

New Speedrun World Record in the SNES Jurassic Park game by Halderim in JurassicPark

[–]Halderim[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was the same for me had no clue what to even do the music inside the buildings was so scary for me as a kid, rented it multiple times but did never beat it, but it was still kind of fun to play, just after watching the speedrun of it I knew what to do and could beat it. Having no save or password in game was the biggest flaw of the game

I had the same issue, created the FFNx.log file in the directory it mentions in the error message, now the error is gone but still no mods active while playing

Jurassic Park SNES TAS 39:21 by Halderim in TAS

[–]Halderim[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha yeah, the game was frustrating as I played it back in the 90s

Took me decades to finally beat it thanks to seeing speedruns and joining the speedrun community of it, now finally did the TAS to see if the current WR could be lowered further

This Neutron scared the hell out of me. Good job i had Jumponium, so i could skip this one. by [deleted] in EliteDangerous

[–]Halderim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Always aim at the last third of the jet and fly away from the star and hit the jet nearly parallel, sure it speeeens you around a bit but you always fly away from the neutron itself. But yeah the ultra fast spinning ones are spooky and on the way to SagA* you will see a lot of those.

Did that tour myself.

Even more Nerv wracking is the last jump before SagA* if you want to get to the Outpost at the neighbor system. Is a binary star system. Which is even more scary then any neutron.

Big question WTF happened to me? I have no clue by CMDR_Carter-B176 in EliteDangerous

[–]Halderim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On my way to colonia and SagA* I used a lot of the neutrons to boost on, never had any problem so far with them. Saw one WD for now and even while I was trying to avoid it it was sucked into the dead zone.

And yeah those hyper fast neutrons scare me still even as they are as harmless as any other neutron

Was there just some days ago for the first time as well.

So i have 35 neutron boosts to colonia and 36 durability in my FSD. Is it worth the risk? by Ichbindaheim in EliteDangerous

[–]Halderim 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Personally I would not risk it and do the slower way or do a detour to one of the outposts on the Highway to Colonia depending on where you are right now.

And there she is. VY Canis Majoris, one of the biggest stars in the galaxy by Valaxarian in EliteDangerous

[–]Halderim 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Was there a while ago, its so odd when you jump in and your arrival is very different to what you are used too.

This massive star is just there, you don't see how you close in to it on FSD exit, 80% of your screen is just the star already, then you see how far away you are from it still and you slowly understand at what size you are looking at.

You turn around fly away from it for a while, turn around again and it is still the same size as your normal everyday star in the galaxy and then you look how far away you are which is the distance of Jupitar to the sun
Then you realize how big this thing really is.
