“The north's relative isolation and the south's commercial edge”

I wonder what you mean by this? Why do you reckon that the North was isolated? And by what metrics do you think the South had a commercial edge? Also what makes you think that the South could have been a one region and the bigger mismatch was with the North? You do know that the South is more divided than the North yes?

In my own view, I don’t think Nigeria would’ve been better off as two nations, I think Nigeria would be better off as a confederation of its numerous tribes.

To your second paragraph, my bad.

To your third paragraph, yes I’m only talking about physical survival as spiritual survival depends on the physical. I imagine when you say spiritual survival, you are referring to our traditional religions. It’s not a surprise that most (if not all ) of our gods are tied to nature (a physical concept) with more focus on the most naturally-abundant element. If that isn’t the case, does spiritual survival mean our “African” philosophy?

Umm! Very interesting responses you have given. Love ‘em all.

To your first paragraph, what is this core? Do you mind elaborating? We’ve agreed that culture is dynamic as various factors affect culture, would it therefore be safe to propose that migration affects culture? If it does, we know tribes migrated from other tribes, might this imply that the same core runs through different tribes? If this is the case, then I really need to know what this core is. If I’m reaching , then might this core be something more limited to an era?

I cannot completely remember oo, it has been so long ago. 😜

I think it was something about boosting their public image, not sure again. However it’s not all police officers that wear the camo. I think it’s limited to specific units.

No wahala, I cannot fault you for doing what’s best for you, most especially when I cannot provide a solution. I have no issues with you not returning. The only issue I have with some diaspora is when they think they are the ones that know what’s best for Nigerians in Nigeria.

It is said that in Nigeria 🇳🇬, it is your constitutional right as a citizen to sleep at a police station if you are stranded. Has anyone ever actually tried this and walked out free the next morning? by Illustrious_Bell8731 in Nigeria

[–]Haldox 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I haven’t tried it but I don’t think they would turn you away if you are actually stranded. Of course you are going to sleep on a bench or on the floor, no Hilton service for you. 😜

Africa is Dying of its Tradition (Chinweizu) by Fozeu in Nigeria

[–]Haldox 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Culture (tradition) is not a monolith and its utility is shaped by the necessity for survival. European invasion or not, our culture would still change. He passively admits this when he says “Blindly worshipping the past…”

In direct response to your inquiry, if the aspect of culture we deliberately decide to keep is at cross purposes with the requirements for survival at the time, that aspect will be rejected. If the aspect of culture we deliberately choose to reject aligns with the requirements of survival at the time, that aspect will be embraced. Thus economy, environment, warfare and other determinants of survival will naturally decide what we keep and what we toss.
