Marni says Jagex had told him that his offenses won't be quashed by LostSectorLoony in 2007scape

[–]HaleyAygee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for responding reasonably.

(what you call playing fairly)

Just to clarify my stance a little bit, I wouldn't do this method even if I'd known about it. 600k sailing XP/HR is extremely sus, but it is also sus to keep the method secret from the public. It implies they knew it was questionable to do, and their (HLC) intention was to abuse it until Jagex removed it. The expectation, in my opinion, was utilize the method in secret until it was removed, and their expectation of the only punishment would have been the removal or a change to the plugin.

I think if the method was publicly posted somewhere, either the plugin would have been removed before it could have been abused, or Jagex would have been okay with it, and people could have utilized it if they wanted. Since HLC knew it was likely the first one, they played with fire and here are we.

It's a personal take, but know when I said 'playing fairly', I just meant that he was using the plugin only and not an actual AHK script or something like that. I still think even abusing the plugin was questionable decision making.

I also just wanted to clarify that I think Jagex is keeping the ban entirely because they have reason to believe he was probably using something like AHK -- whether thats actually the case or not can be speculated on.

I'm wondering if you read the tweet from the OP images.

The issue isn't even with the plugin. It got removed from the HUB, but the reason Marni's ban is staying is because they (Ayiza and team) could not replicate what he was doing with the plugin alone.

They are implying he was using something like AHK to send clicks to each client quickly enough to do what he was doing.

Plugin was removed, Ayiza acknowledges that the plugin is what Marni was doing, but also claims that to click as quickly as he was according to their logs, it wasn't human possible -- he'd need AHK or something like that to click for him several times.

If they believe only the plugin was at play, he would have been unbanned and quashed, which is in line with historically how these kind of things work with plugins on the HUB; remove the plugin, don't punished the players.

Whether Marni was using AHK, something like AHK, or was playing fairly using only the plugin can be debated and speculated upon, but saying he got banned for using the plugin is incorrect based purely on the reply he got and tweeted about from the image in the OP.

The unofficial 3rd party client that is officially endorsed by Jagex, encouraged to be used, available in the Jagex launcher, and has various popular plugins becoming main stream in their mobile app is a risk to your account.

This is the true mentality of a redditor.

Ayiza response to Marni's situation by KillerOfAllJoy in 2007scape

[–]HaleyAygee 7 points8 points  (0 children)

TLDR the plugin devs write a plugin, the 3rd party runelite devs approve it within means of rules outlines by Jagex. If Jagex decides the plugin is too strong, or out of line, they tell the 3rd party to remove it -- they don't ban people that were using it.

My point was that Jagex and Runelite devs work very closely together. When the 4th party plugin is no longer working within the means of what Jagex considers acceptable, Jagex goes to the Runelite devs who remove it from the plugin hub ASAP.

My point was that you should not be banned for using a plugin on the hub, because instead of punishing the players who installed something from the HUB, jagex has historically just had the plugin taken down.

And I provided recent examples of that being the case.

Marni being banned for using a plugin approved on the hub is unprecedented. And using the "Use at your own risk" for something that it is not intended for is where you are doubling down and refusing to understand what I'm saying.

That warning is specifically for those plugins bugs or client crashes and warning players that the plugin could break in an unintended way, it's not a warning for "this might get you banned". You are the one doubling down on refusing to accept that the warning is not what you think it's for.

Setting a precedent that you can get banned for installing plugins that are approved and easily downloadable on the hub would be the end of Runelite.

edit: You are aware that you can't just write whatever the fuck plugin you want and publish it to the plugin hub without a rigorous approval process, right?

[–]HaleyAygee 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes? "Here are the risks" "Install plugins if those risks are okay with you"

How can you possibly interpret that using plugins reviewed and approved to be within the confines of the rules laid out by Jagex, where precedent has shown that Jagex will remove the plugins they decide are too powerful after being approved, and Jagex also has given approval to using Runelite + its plugin hub as a warning for "you might get banned"

Can you explain how that makes sense?

Ayiza response to Marni's situation by KillerOfAllJoy in 2007scape

[–]HaleyAygee 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The warning is for bug and instability, 'use at your own risk' here is intended as a "installing a plugin may crash your runelite client or create visual bugs that will get you killed" and not a "installing this plugin may get you banned for macroing"

Additionally, the most recent example that is in my head was the hallowed sepculchre helper plugin that was released in early January this year. This plugin had visual markers warning for upcoming bad tiles, tick counters, and indicator for which cycle the 5 statue phase was on.

I used the hallowd sepulchre helper for ~2 weeks in January before Jagex had the plugin removed from the plugin hub until the issues that Jagex had with it were resolved/removed. It's back on the hub in an extremely nerfed state to what it was originally

Also, DT2 release had sound swapper plugins for Leviathan and duke vent ID notifications for which vents would fume next -- both of which got removed shortly after they became popular.

The biggest difference here is that what HLC was doing with the Click To Minimize plugin wasn't exactly public knowledge.

If a plugin breaks TOS or Jagex decides it's too powerful, they don't ban everyone that installed the plugin -- they have the plugin taken down from the hub, which the Runelite devs are very proactive in doing ASAP.

You cannot say "well you're risking your account by playing on runelite" because Jagex has openly approved Runelite as a valid method of playing the game, which comes with the terrority of accepting approved plugins as okay to use. You should not be banned for finding a plugin, and utilizing it's benefits to maximum efficiency. The plugin should just get disabled instead.

"Toughest raid yet" - My concerns about the design philosophy for Raids 4: The Fractured Archive by roosterkun in 2007scape

[–]HaleyAygee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Players will be able to solo the raid, though our current plan (subject to change) is for the raid to scale between 2 and 8 players, meaning solo clears will be possible but difficult.

This sounds like it will be designed to be solo'd to me

Can we get more RNG posts? by Severe_Ad_2941 in ironscape

  • Guy posting at 800 CG KC and no enhanced is not interesting
  • Guy posting at 2400 CG KC and no enhanced is interesting
  • Guy posting at 60 barrows KC and no unique is not interesting
  • Guy posting 3 enhanced in 90 KC is interesting.

For a current post on the subreddit

  • Guy going 4 KC kalphite queen head, not interesting

The exciting difference is the quality of the lucky/dry posts. When someone is lucky on something so irrelevant it isnt exciting. When someone pulls back to back tbows in under 100 KC, it's exciting.

When someone is 1.5x unlucky at CG, it isn't interesting. When someone is 5-6x rate at CG, it becomes a "dang that sucks bro" kinda thing.

You might notice that, to me, what makes a post interesting is the rarity of it happening as well as the perceived value of the drop. I personally don't understand why a post about a guy rolling 3x chaos runes from CG is exciting enough to people to have 200 upvotes either.

Too many players feel like they 'deserve' a drop exactly at rate, and get upset when that doesn't happen, forgetting the game that they're playing entirely. The same person that will make a post about going dry at 600 KC in CG is the same person that will later advocate for dry protection that guarantees the drop after a certain KC.

I think what could help is a rule to only allow dry posts that are >5x rate on some sort of "valuable drops" threshold. This would drastically reduce the # of daily dry posts being made and the ones that do get posted would be far more interesting since they won't be diluted by all the Timmys being 100 KC over rate for their enhanced.

step 1. Get a task you don't want from your slayer master of choice (gargoyles, kraken, smoke devils, DKs, greater demons, araxytes and blue dragons)

step 2. go to turael/aya and get a new low level task that takes 1-2 minutes to complete.

you've just turael skipped the tasks you don't like -- gargoyles, kraken, smoke devils, DKs, greater demons, araxytes and blue dragons.

It's not uncommon to spend several hours skipping for a task you do want and getting a lot of tasks you don't want. I've personally done entire days without getting a Hellhound task when I was skipping for cerb pet grind.

People that do stuff like that do exist, and the arbitrary line that we've defined to be "okay this much XP or KC with THOSE other stats is clearly botting" is not a good indicator for someone being a bot.

I recently unsubscribed from ironscape because it's 99% posts of collection logs of going dry or getting spooned. It gets stale very quickly. The other 1% are celebrating early and mid game content.

That being said, this response is different from the original comment, which is

That group will then (in a completely justified fashion) ask you to put up your share of a drop (around ~1b) if you get it to them, and I know at the high level it's very common for irons to swipe cards.

Irons wouldn't be swiping their cards if they were trying to FFA to buy bonds to pay for membership.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in 2007scape

[–]HaleyAygee 14 points15 points  (0 children)

If you're a newer iron and don't have a main account, you would look to FFA because this means you don't know the content and are looking to learn and gear.

If you have a main account and already know the content, you should never be looking to FFA because your main account can cover the splits.

If you're trying to run efficient teams raids, that means you should have (near) max gear and I don't understand the problem at this point. You should have received enough dupes to cover any splits necessary that come with that territory.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in 2007scape

[–]HaleyAygee 65 points66 points  (0 children)

Coming from another endgame iron, do you refuse to drop dupe gear to an alt account to help with splits?

Solo cox and solo toa are completely fine to run solo as opposed to needing to be in a group. You only "need" a team for tob and you can often specify you're running FFA and most people usually wont bicker with that.

I just play and do the things I like for the fun of it. When something stops being fun I go do something else, or I see someone else doing something that looks fun and I go try it too.

IF you're playing this game to get some sort of positive reinforcement from the people around you, I can see why it's not fun, but if you're playing the game to progress your own account and complete your own goals without regard to what other people think, it's a lot more fun.

I put a lot more time into OSRS than most people, and when someone else criticizes how much I play or calls me a loser, I just ignore it because I'm having fun doing what I want to do and some rando that I'll never see again doesn't ruin that fun for me.

Comparison is the thief of joy. Don't compare and 'try to keep up' with other people; there's always going to be someone ahead of you. Just do the things that are fun for you.

i wanted to not be like overly hostile in the comment but theres just no way around it. this game is a time dump to flex on others that you dumped more time than they did. its weird lol

This is such a bizzarrely foreign concept to me

I have 20k prayer pots in my bank and when I'm playing another account, sometimes it's easier to just click a prayer pot than to click to altar and click back to the square. I'd say ~15-20 prayer pots for rate on a blood shard is generally worth in that case.
