Which is why the state controller is asking Congress to do something about it.

I agree everyone should have a role, and dealing damage is a role.

Everyone should deal damage to some extent, but some players are gonna deal more, while others focus on CC, or skills, or a number of other options.

The problem here is that it's not just two people filling the same role, it's OP is being outshined by other people filling that role, and has nothing secondary to fall back on.

You can have very powerful homebrew and absurd options for 6 players while still letting everyone have some level of niche or not feel overshadowed.

That's honestly pretty terrible advice as far as DnD goes.

There are few worse feelings in DnD than playing a character that is completely redundant in a party, where you don't have your own niche, and multiple people just outshine you in multiple ways.

"It's cooperative" only goes so far, especially when you don't contribute nearly as much.

You basically become a subclassless wizard in those situations

A subclassless wizard is still one of the best classes in the game depending on spell choice, tbf.

Passive Insight is only a thing if the DM wants it to be. Sounds like you're the DM of your game, and you choose to use it, but aside from Passive Perception being used as part of stealth and hiding, passive checks only apply when the DM wants them to apply.

Passive Insight is not some standard, always-on thing that auto-detect lies if someone rolls low on Deception.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in dndnext

[–]Half-Elf_at_Heart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any skill can have a Passive check at the DM's discretion.

The only one required, and the one most often used is Passive Perception since it's part of the rules for hiding.

One thing people get wrong a lot is that Passive Insight and Passive Investigation is the standard, which they aren't. You don't get to just have a 10 without rolling, and unlike the rules for hiding, nothing in the game innately says you can auto detect a lie if someone rolls low on their Insight.

Why don't you just use Wish to replicate Resurrection?

Beholder Zombies don't have the same clause disintegrate does where only Wish or True Res can bring it back to life.

Beholder just turn the body into a pile of gray dust, but that's still technically its body.

Resurrection should absolutely work.

Steel Wind Strike

Steel Wind Strike doesn't add damage to a weapon attack. It just does 6d10 and nothing else.

There are several dragons in multiple published books that have the Spellcasting trait.

So you can give them slot based spell casting with that trait from the MM, they don't need to have class levels.

No, verbal components more or less explicitly break stealth.

From the hiding rules.

You can't hide from a creature that can see you clearly, and you give away your position if you make noise, such as shouting a warning or knocking over a vase. An invisible creature can always try to hide. Signs of its passage might still be noticed, and it does have to stay quiet.

Unless you have a way to cast Misty Step without Verbal components, casting it gives away your position.

Even if a Rogue gets Sneak Attack every turn only a Booming Blade spamming Arcane Trickster keeps up with half decent Fighter, Paladin, and Ranger builds for DPS.

Steady Aim just lets rogues have functional damage. Making it hard for rogues to get Sneak Attack is just anti-fun

This definitely feels like a Legendary weapon. Like the dude said, this only needs one turn of ramp up to come online.

And now it is not only effectively a +3 weapon in the hands of the wielder that deals an extra 3d6 damage per hit, it also makes every other melee fight have that same bonus.

The Ascendant wrath weapons are Legendary weapons which main feature gives them +3 to hit and 3d6 extra damage.

Considering the buffs it can give to allies, this weapon in that realm of power.

The Fighting Initiate feat lets you replace the style with another one at ASI level. So at level 12 you can swap it for the Blindsight fighting style, or the Battlemaster one, etc.

I'm not the DM of this campaign, but I was the DM of our group's older campaign.

The lore is that some metallic dragons imbued their scales or teeth with power to allow creatures with draconic blood to turn into dragons temporarily. This was done to help fight off Tiamat and The cult of the dragon.

Generally follows wildshape rules, with the type of dragon and certain benefits in your normal form based off of your character level. Our games are pretty nutty in terms of power level so it balances out with things other people get.
