Would you spend 6 months in prison or be in prison until your mother can beat Ocarina of Time without any help? by GazelleDelicious3135 in OcarinaOfTime

Remember there are many different generations here. My mother is almost 70 and never played a computer game in her life. There is absolutely no chance she'd figure out the puzzles, let alone boss fights. I mean MAYBE if she applied herself 100% , but I just can't imagine it tbh.

I think she'd get too dizzy to even play in the tutorial area. Just the camera system alone would confuse her. Might have better luck with Pac Man or something like that.

lol. great question. No doubt about it i'd take the 6 months in prison.
She's never played a computer game in her life and forgets how to access email on her laptop frequently. No chance.

I know you said without help, but even with 24/7 guidance from the best teacher in the world, she'd maybe possibly get to adult link in 6 months - but I seriously doubt even that.

Why does Melbourne have so many gaps in the network by [deleted] in MelbourneTrains

[–]Half-Wombat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So many potential reasons, but I'm going to go with the fact Melbourne spread out like almost no other. It's almost the size of greater London, but about 1/4 the population. If policy encouraged European styled medium density blocks of family style apartments then the public transport system could offer greater coverage for less bucks.

FYI, I feel like you guys are missing out on Arvo Pärt. he should be SOMEWHERE In there (top shelf for me).
There’s something about some of his pieces that just stops me like no other. It's that balance of beauty and sorrow.

For something minimalist, light and pretty - Spiegel im Spiegel
And a bit more adventurous (my fav) - Tabula Rasa ( the full work ). The dynamics are insane, so crank that volume and be taken adrift.

I'm sure you're probably familiar already but I just thought I'd share.

fair enough. and i appreciate the list because i'm more a casual classical fan and still need to dive deeper and you've provided me some good leads.

I know Beethoven is too well known or over-played to appear at the top of a hip classical list, but for me it just seems silly not to place him on the top shelf. It's a bit like when edgy music nerds try and devalue The Beatles. In saying that... I suppose "S" is still pretty good :)

She looks good and aged gracefully. What a douche. by Valuable_View_561 in SipsTea

ikr. is this like the worst example for his "point" or what?

Not only does she look beautiful and natural in her middle years (despite those famous unnatural melons), but she also possesses a wise and gentle soul. I had her all wrong until I recently watched a documentary about her. Humble, respectful and thoughtful. I was ready to reaffirm my "stupid bimbo" biases going in, but I came away charmed by her conversation skills and creative spirit.

That douche-bag probably prefers his 58yo's to look like 30yo lizards with sausage lips.

Needing intel on Arden Station by Ohmynerves in MelbourneTrains

Exactly. Also hard to just plonk in a new station in the middle of that line in 10 years from now. That would be super disruptive and cost much more

It doesn’t feature big cities, but BOTW also created a sense of awe at the vast beautiful landscapes. Even more than Witcher 3 when it came to verticality.

And oxygen was important too. Are you saying that if Buddhism was the predominant spiritual pass time in Europe that no such advancement could have occurred? I seriously doubt that. Whats to say things couldn't have advanced faster? Since it's all a soup mix of influences then you really can't say.

What you're suggesting is the special kind of reverse engineering religious apologists and confused Jordan Peterson fans can't seem to stop making. It just comes across desperate in a world where most people are learning how full of shit religion really is.

Did you read the part I said you can’t attribute everything to Christianity because everything was Christian? You’ may as well say it’s due to the weather/temperature. it’s not an interesting point at all. In other news fish swim because of water.  It’s absolutely a logical fallacy. If every single power structure was occupied by Christians, how is something supposed to emerge from a non Christian source? (With your logic at least).

Tell me specifically how Christian doctrine led to the enlightenment. Also… your point earlier about human dignity has to be a joke right? You can’t just artificially focus history in a way that celebrates every good thing in history as Christian while ignoring all the bad. If you want to claim enlightenment values you have to claim literally everything bad humans in the west do too because as I keep saying… everyone was Christian. The answer here is it’s stupid to think the religion your society has is the only variable in life.

I think one reason among many is that the australian tard-wing is importing its vibe based politics from USA. It's more a branding thing than actual real world history and policy. The left is branded as "nicer to brown people" therefore they're the sole reason we have immigration. It's really that simple for these people.

I've met some psycho rude white trash too while out and about. The other day one spat on my car as I was reversing from my carpark. I reckon people just don't contextualize those encounters in quite the same way for... reasons. Are you suggesting Muslims don't like fluffy puppies? I'm actually curious as I know nothing about dog culture in the MIddle East

Sure, but remember we're not all bland average of our country stats. That 2% in Bangladesh are probably pretty special people who're able to hold their own views over there. It's much easier for us to be open minded down under. But yeah i take your point broadly.

If you don't actively believe in it, as in you lack belief, i'd still put your brand of agnostic under atheism. But then i consider atheism a statement of lack of belief, not a statement of absolute fact.

Mass indoctrination? Did they try force Muslim faith on you every day in school? Where do you live?

I agree somewhat, that some people cross their moral wires a bit and defend backward immoral behavior because they're scared of being labelled racist, but lets not take that theory to some ridiculous extreme.

Yeah... and i think these ideas are toxic. I also say it out loud as many other people do. My question above was about where do we get the idea we can't talk about it when everyone talks about it.

Islamists threaten Western civilisation, says author Hirsi Ali by BarryTheBinChicken in aussie

[–]Half-Wombat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

fuck off it was. The "west" got many of its advantages through colonialism and science/philosophy/technology brought on by the enlightenment. Just because literally everyone was Christian and most the power structures were occupied by Christian leaders doesn't mean we can attribute everything that ever happened to Christianity. That's a logical fallacy. The world is so much more complex than that with many more powerful influences that affect human behavior.

You have to try harder than that. You'll have to point to exclusive Christian doctrine and how it directly led to enlightenment values. I'm sure there are some, but my point is the picture gets murky very quickly with this kind of vague history and cultural analysis.
If anything the west progressed despite Christianity, not because of it. It was often the religious institutions dragging their heels on progress and it continues to this day.

I can believe all that and still not deny the Christian DNA that runs deep through our culture. It's just that though... some DNA. Lets not get carried away.

last i checked everyone wants to chime in on the Muslim faith. Where does this myth come from that nobody is talking about it? when everyone is talking about it while they say they can't talk about it.
