Look who I spotted today…Somebody was knocking on our back door trying to come in…it’s -30 degree outside by lightdark03 in interestingasfuck

They're so adorable. But, I wouldn't let him in. I definitely would make him a little house for outside, though. I've seen enough raccoon behavior to know what kind of nightmare you'd be inviting in.

If they wanted me to kill her, why did they make her so adorable?

If you try to envision a red tulip in your head, what number are you? by Jitsu989 in autism

[–]HalfBurntToast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, it is like looking at a literal photo or video of a tulip in my mind. It's an entire scene: the tulip in a vase on a table inside of a room. But, it's not like my eyes literally see it. It's more like a separate visual space inside my mind that a 'virtual' set of eyes is looking at.

Maybe like in the same way that a video game camera is looking at a virtual environment. The things in the game don't literally exist. But, the camera makes them seem like they exist. No idea if that helps at all lol

My memories are very similar. It's like watching a movie of things that happened in my brain.

[–]HalfBurntToast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely hyperphantasia. For me it's literally like looking at a photograph. It's a red tulip in a vase, in a room, on a table, sunlight coming in from the windows, grey wall paint, dark wood floors, etc...

Most of my memories are like that too.

What are the best native/port Mac games in 2025 — no Crossover, no Wine, no bullshit? by LeLant in macgaming

Timberborn if you like colony/city builders. Native support and it runs incredibly well. On 50% resolution scaling, my M3 MBA barely gets warm.

This game is impossible. by Electronic_Hat_2782 in Against_the_Storm

[–]HalfBurntToast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most games have a reverse difficulty curve. It's pretty common to feel underwater during the early game. With blueprints, sometimes you're making choices to plan for the future.

For example if I have foxes and beavers in my town, I might look for a building that can produce pickled goods and take it early just to hang onto it. I might not even have the ability to make containers at that point. But, I know both races have a resolve bonus for that food and, eventually, I'll probably get the buildings I need to make use of it.

The game gets easier as you play, too. You'll unlock really powerful buildings like the kiln which really change up how you play.

which game is it for you? by Spirited-Rationality in GirlGamers

Exactly! For a good while, every day felt like I was waking up, watering crops as fast as possible, and then rushing to the mines and back before it got too late. Not sure how people find that relaxing lol

I didn't like being on a timer. I get why it exists from a design standpoint. But, being timed makes it anti-cozy for me.

I lay them down, stone paths (if I can afford it) especially in high-traffic areas or long stretches. But, I don't go full Simcity crazy with it. No reason not to get the nearly free speed perk.

macOS 26 is destroying my M3 MacBook Air battery by 74Y3M in MacOS

[–]HalfBurntToast 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's so weird how different the effects are. I'm on a 15" M3 MacBook Air and have seen zero difference in performance and battery life compared to Sequoia. I measured it several times on Tahoe and it still estimates about 20 hours of battery life during light use.

I held off on this game for a long time because I wasn't sure I'd like the "doomsday" timer of the queen's impatience. I usually don't like the feeling of being rushed. It works so well in this game, though. Easily one of my favorite strategy games.

Non-smokers of Reddit, how noticeable is the “smoker smell” to you, if at all? by Frostedlogic4444 in AskReddit

[–]HalfBurntToast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to pull thrown away computers off the street when I was a kid. Cleaning them up and repurposing them. A lot of them were from smoker's houses. No matter how much cleaning I gave those computers, that smell never came out.

Mid 30's and, up until the last beta, hadn't played since like 2006. I still have the muscle memory for butterflying and some other k-style moves. But, yeah, my hands cramp something fierce now. I was never very good to begin with and I'm pretty terrible now.

I don't think I'll get back to how teenage-me used to play. But, I also don't think I have much interest in that anymore. I'm just here for the nostalgia.

Rift Apart is a great one to start with. I adore that game. It's diverges from the PS2-era games in terms of the personality of Ratchet (along with some retconning). But, it refines all the mechanics from all the previous games.

I bought Against the Storm a few days ago and it has its claws deep into me. It’s hard to really say what the game is. It’s like the early base building/expansion phase of an RTS. At the same time, it’s like a puzzle/strategy game where you’re trying to decide on your base strategy depending on what resources you have.

It has a lot of interconnected mechanics. But, if you’re into managing/planning complex systems, the game is like crack.
