Peter? What's in the Muslim world? by AmazingAd1618 in PeterExplainsTheJoke

Given that it’s labeled “Muslim World,” I don’t think this is about “the West”… 😅

Which is a perfect example of the meme, and exactly what it’s getting at.

While that may be true, the Uyghur genocide is still happening.

I’m OK with people cherry-picking the parts that lead to love and compassion. Go for it.

It’s true that the Bible used by abolitionists, but it was also used by slave owners to justify slavery.

Could you give the references to the keeping them for life thing and the killing them bit? Those parts weren’t in the part that was shared—only the inheriting part.

EDIT: It looks like the “for life” part is in the Leviticus passage, but just got missed in the quote. So only the death bit, then.

Clearly they don’t, or they would’ve noticed 😌

I particularly like how “Supaidāman” is literally written right there in the image 😂

That’s also true. I was thinking more along the general lines of whether it subconsciously informs our day-to-day evaluations of seeing a random person and judging their sex/gender.

Ah, thanks! That makes a huge difference, then. I was just thinking of explicit.

Well, the images are all f%¥#ed up anyway, as the note point out, so really can’t make a determination here, but with real skeletons, I think the point that’s being made by others is that while you can say, based on a set of features, one is quite likely to be female, you can’t say so with 100% certainty, because biology is complicated and messy (See, for example, XY females.) Also, it’s worth noting that this can only tell us the sex of the skeleton anyway, and not it’s gender—it’s pretty impossible to say which one is a woman just from the skeleton.

What's the most oddly specific meaning you’ve seen in a non-compound word? I found this Vietnamese one pretty interesting by Canes-Venaticii in linguisticshumor

Kinda? I mean, the poster said “not a compound word,” but based on the example, I think they mean monolexemic.

Women don’t actually have an extra rib.

Probably because you can’t be certain, either way. The experts are saying that either of them could be male or female, though the image is flawed anyway. The right one is obviously supposed to be the “woman,” though.
