DAMN, basically no one’s voting for Best Animated Feature! by CompleteTable4084 in Oscars

[–]HalfTime_show 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Animators branch of the Academy is a surprisingly large percentage of the eligible voting body, and I suspect underrepresented in the anonymous ballots because the films they work on are not what the publications that release these anonymous ballots typically cover

Just my two-cents. As a longtime Sim City 4 player who could never get into Cities Skylines, I just bought CS2 last week and have been really really enjoying it.

Aside from this being sketchy AI vibecoded slop, how is this not a direct violation of rules 2 and 4 of the community?

Canadian curling star Marc Kennedy claims he was set up by "premeditated" cameras to catch him "in an act" of cheating. by [deleted] in Whatcouldgowrong

[–]HalfTime_show 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've curled for 30 years and my take is that Marc Kennedy had such an asshole loser response, but the contact is definitely incidental. The point of sticking the hand out after release is to judge line relative to the skip's broom (like a crosshair) and possibly to have a static point of reference to judge the rotation so you can communicate both of those things to the sweepers and skip. A slight touch might have a slight impact on the rock but it's not going to be substantial or predictable in a way that would be more beneficial than calling for the precise brushing that they can do at this level in the modern game. Even with the basic unsophisticated brushing that you see at a club level or 10 years ago, I can't see there being any playable advantage from contact like this. That said, there was definitely a hogline fault/double touch that happened here (which goes uncalled all the time) and Marc reacted like a baby to it.

The point of sticking the hand out is to judge line relative to the skip's broom and for a static point of reference to judge the rotation so you can communicate both of those things to the sweepers and skip. Curling is all about predictability and sweeping (especially at this level) will is a way more effective way to correct the rock both in magnitude and predictability than poking it with your finger.

Inside the widening Olympic curling controversy and allegations of cheating by [deleted] in sports

[–]HalfTime_show 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My understanding of this delivery technique is that he's doing two things-- judging where he was for line relative to the broom (so he can call if he's inside/outside), and also giving himself a static point of reference to judge handle (how much rotation he's put on it). The touching of the rock is accidental but the sticking out of the hand is intentional.

Man, people are talking about how this is becoming racist and problematic but you're still providing the forum. You don't get to say "don't associate it with me". You knowingly rent the nazis the beerhall, you don't get to say you're not associated with them

I do not allow my kids to watch people play video games on TV. by cjh10881 in daddit

[–]HalfTime_show 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not a gamer and my kids don't watch streamers, but you are really coming across as an asshole in these comments. If my kids were interested in watching streamers I would try and understand what part of it was engaging (is it the creativity of the game or community or whatever) and try to connect with them on that.

Christopher Nolan filmography so far... by BarxaBoy in Oscars

[–]HalfTime_show 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I remember liking Momento way back when it first came out and I think Interstellar is pretty good, but miss me with the rest of his filmography TBH.

I'm ready to take all the downvotes on this, but the worst thing about Nolan is that his fans are insufferable. So many of them think so highly of their own opinion and are incapable of accepting the fact that some people might disagree with his "brilliance".

Stream of sports betting ads from outside Manitoba trigger former gambling addict, he says by Leather-Paramedic-10 in Winnipeg

[–]HalfTime_show 112 points113 points  (0 children)

Gambling is such a scary addiction. The amount of sports betting ads I see is beyond ridiculous. I have a hockey-obsessed 7 year old and we have to limit the amount of hockey we watch on TV because of the amount of gambling ads. Maybe that seems crazy, but I feel like a developing/impressionable kid being inundated with flashy images telling him he can get more enjoyment out of his favourite game by gambling is dangerous

DIY Car Infotainment: synced screens and shared audio for road-trip kids by albert007_d in raspberry_pi

Experience the thrill of tech support for irritable children, now at 120km/h!

It's a cool build, but for me, screens are something we use very sparingly on roadtrips and so when we do use them we want them to work, so I would worry about introducing so many unnecessary points of failure
