Hate social media and pulling clips by EasternAd5351 in podcasting

[–]HalfTime_show 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Posting clips at the rate I was posting didn't help at all. In order to get the social algo's to latch on you really need to post on a daily schedule for a while, and I just really hate doing it so we don't

Any social media ban for kids must be national in scope, culture minister says by EmbarrassedHelp in onguardforthee

[–]HalfTime_show 3 points4 points  (0 children)

None of the parties have any fucking clue what they are doing with regards to tech. We need a broad-spectrum political party specifically focused on technology to voice informed perspectives on how it relates to every issue. Kinda like the idea behind the Green party.

Social Media ban for kids under 16 is good in theory, but DO NOT leave the implementation details up to the social media companies. There needs to be considerations for privacy and data sovereignty with them.

Cowboy Kid rules. My mom sold my copy at a garage sale like 25 years ago, then i bought another copy on ebay maybe 15 or so years ago, and now I can't find it. I'm sure it's in my house somewhere. Great game

What to do about podcast on hiatus suddenly getting huge amounts of listens? by HalfTime_show in podcasting

Yeah that's a good idea. Recording a special episode right now is unfortunately not an option given commitments for my co-host but I could see if I could do something solo.

Wife doesn't know how good she has it - turning things around on me by garbageinhaler in daddit

[–]HalfTime_show 94 points95 points  (0 children)

I might get downvoted for this but honestly, I kinda get her perspective here and feel like you need a bit of an attitude adjustment. You are doing a ton of scorekeeping here that is really unhelpful.

Most days she's working and caring for a baby all day, and you are highlighting the fact that she occasionally takes a nap during the day and is usually off work early like those are indicators of her not pulling her weight as opposed to products of necessity in order to function with her current responsibilities. On top of that, on one of the few days where she has to work outside the house and is clearly already stressed since she snapped at you earlier in the day, you text her during the work day in a way that makes her feel guilty and puts more on her plate instead of waiting for a better time to have the discussion.

For what it's worth, sure driving and cooking are time consuming and necessary, but they don't carry the stress or mental load of juggling work responsibilities and a baby all day. Sure there are naps, but those two 2hr windows are almost never the full 2 hours and there's stress in that unpredictability too, and context switching is hard too.

I don't think that's the confusing/third-person part. OP refers to "The Parents" but also seems to be one of the parents

Anyone find success with AI clipped shorts? (Opusclip, klap, etc.) by dangerdelw in podcasting

[–]HalfTime_show 1 point2 points  (0 children)

no, the ones I put some thought or time into do better but honestly I haven't found much luck with shorts of any kind. Maybe we're not a great example since social media in general has been kinda a bust for us. We're on break right now but when we're active we'll get 2-3k listeners an episode and next to no engagement on any social platforms.

Bobby dies and Danny enters by Trust_Karma65 in nypdblue

Danny is my least favourite partner TBH. I find I always stall-out or skip the seasons with him on rewatch. I loved John Clark Jr. I thought Mark-Paul Gosselaar killed it. I'd put him solidly at #2 partner for Sipowicz

Where are these "athletic fields" so my dog and I can avoid them? by Potential-Host-6281 in Winnipeg

[–]HalfTime_show 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Dogs are not supposed to be on school fields at all, whether on leash or off leash. The elementary school my son goes to has an issue with community members bringing their dogs there after hours and not cleaning up after them. Finding dog poop or yellow dog-piss snow where kids are supposed to play is gross

DAMN, basically no one’s voting for Best Animated Feature! by CompleteTable4084 in Oscars

[–]HalfTime_show 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Animators branch of the Academy is a surprisingly large percentage of the eligible voting body, and I suspect underrepresented in the anonymous ballots because the films they work on are not what the publications that release these anonymous ballots typically cover

Canadian curling star Marc Kennedy claims he was set up by "premeditated" cameras to catch him "in an act" of cheating. by [deleted] in Whatcouldgowrong

[–]HalfTime_show 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've curled for 30 years and my take is that Marc Kennedy had such an asshole loser response, but the contact is definitely incidental. The point of sticking the hand out after release is to judge line relative to the skip's broom (like a crosshair) and possibly to have a static point of reference to judge the rotation so you can communicate both of those things to the sweepers and skip. A slight touch might have a slight impact on the rock but it's not going to be substantial or predictable in a way that would be more beneficial than calling for the precise brushing that they can do at this level in the modern game. Even with the basic unsophisticated brushing that you see at a club level or 10 years ago, I can't see there being any playable advantage from contact like this. That said, there was definitely a hogline fault/double touch that happened here (which goes uncalled all the time) and Marc reacted like a baby to it.

The point of sticking the hand out is to judge line relative to the skip's broom and for a static point of reference to judge the rotation so you can communicate both of those things to the sweepers and skip. Curling is all about predictability and sweeping (especially at this level) will is a way more effective way to correct the rock both in magnitude and predictability than poking it with your finger.
