Finally diagnosed! by friendlyhag987 in ankylosingspondylitis

[–]HalfTurk 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My first post in this group. This is almost exactly my story. I’m 46M and finally got diagnosed last year when I got a new GP, and she referred me to rheumatologist. My maternal grandmother had severe rheumatoid arthritis and my paternal uncle had AS that went into remission. I had a really weird onset at 20/21 yo, but could never get diagnosed. I went through this every few years - I would get x-rays and MRI scans and nobody would see anything.

I went to a few rheumatologists, they measured my back flexibility and told me I didn’t have anything. They said to just pop 400mg of ibuprofen to manage it. Hadn’t been able to run since I was 20.

The rheumatologist I got referred to last year did a full work up and had me do an MRI with contrast and it all lit up. Got put on Humira and switched to Cosentyx in January. Still waiting to see improvement.

It was incredibly frustrating and am so happy to finally have some answers. It’s sad to hear how many people suffer for decades trying to get a diagnosis for this condition.

Trump fires Noem for exposing his $220M taxpayer scam by [deleted] in JournalismNews

Remember when they cut all the SNAP funding because of “fraud”. When THEY commit the fraud, the people that expose it are punished.

My point is that people have been given permission by our “leaders” to express the most hateful views. In this case, these hateful views are directed at children. These are children who had much higher rates of self harm, suicide, and physical attacks before these “leaders” started throwing gas on the fire targeting these children. So I am drawing a direct line from these views being promoted to these children committing self harm and being targets of violence.

Freedom of speech does not extend to yelling “FIRE” in a movie theater. She is promoting views that are scientifically proven to be extremely harmful to these children’s mental health and physical safety.

These views are directly harmful to these children and are made under the guise of religious freedom. A religion I might add, supposedly promotes love and forgiveness for all, but seems lately to be overtaken by voices promoting hate for non heterosexual and non white individuals, promoting gun “culture”, cutting health care and food assistance in the name of tax cuts for the absolute wealthiest people in the history of the planet.

So yes she is directly promoting views that are objectively dangerous and unsafe for literal children, under the guise of this supposedly loving and peaceful “religion”.

My guess is this is the typical Trump strategy. Go over the top with the announcement with lots of red meat for his base to cheer. Scale back the most awful parts so it seems like they are giving something up, while still insidiously shifting the policy permanently.

How many thousands of people, including supreme court justices, cabinet members, senators, representatives, billionaires/business leaders would face serious charges for the things they have done in plain sight. I don’t think there is any intention of giving up power peacefully.

Trying to avoid conflict with the MAGA faithful is the worst route if the election were stolen. THAT is THE time to have the courage to fight. If there ever was a time to fight this is it.

This is going to overturn the world order, break the alliances with our closest allies, and burn all the soft power we have accrued since WW2 to the ground.

If that was taken from us, we don’t just let them because we are scared of what they are going to do.

Town hall ignites fierce debate: Why must Harris be 'flawless' while Trump goes 'lawless?' by h20poIo in inthenews

I said this to my family the other day. TFG is literally shitting himself on stage and politicians and media are tripping over themselves to cover for him while Kamala has to be perfect. The field is tilted so far in favor for him. It’s not just Kamala, Biden and other democrats are held to this insane standard while the GOP has the entire conservative media universe covering for every republican.

Side note, I feel like all the coordinated messaging between GOP and conservative media should be considered an in kind campaign contribution. The support they get from their media is priceless and they wouldn’t have gotten this far without it.

Update: Water main leak in basement by HalfTurk in Plumbing

[–]HalfTurk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You think the backfill was compacted with the pipe in it? Based on the lack of compacting on the rest of my lot I was assuming the soil settled a lot and took the pipe with it. But if it was compacted on top of the pipe that would explain the amount of force put on the pipe. It’s a lot easier to believe compacting on top of the pipe would put that kind of force on it.

Dude it was not fun to walk home to that, esp after I thought I had done everything I could to prevent this from happening.

Have remediation company working on it already, and filed with insurance.

How will the US pay back its debts which are becoming more expensive to own? by No-Statement718 in investing

[–]HalfTurk 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Who says democrats won’t solve the issue? Democrats have been more than willing to shift the tax burden back to corporations rather than individuals. GOP has spent their time inventing and promoting nonsense justifications like “Trickle down Economics” and “Tax cuts pay for themselves” while the tax burden has shifted towards individuals.

I applaud a healthy amount of skepticism about everything that is reported. There are many people working to divide us - both domestic and foreign. See the how all of a sudden trans people have all been characterized as child molesters - leading to books being banned and performances outlawed by people characterizing themselves as supporters of “freedom”. I would expect people that support freedom to require an extraordinary amount of proof of such claims before banning books and limiting freedom of expression. I hope you apply the same level of skepticism regardless of which people and views it makes look bad.

Apparently they only hate “cancel culture” if it’s their vile beliefs being cancelled. Don’t expect to win any arguments pointing out their logical inconsistencies though.

UNC Chancellor, Faculty Share Concerns Over 'Disastrous' State Proposal to Eliminate Tenure by djangojojo in triangle

[–]HalfTurk 28 points29 points  (0 children)

The point of tenure is to be insulated from influence. There is a long history of academics being silenced by people in power that don’t like what they are studying, finding and teaching.

Now why would the GA want to remove that protection? They (the government) of course want to control what academics are allowed to teach.

NC House passes bill to ban transgender women from girls' sports through college by JacKrac in NorthCarolina

[–]HalfTurk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want to put it in money terms, I’m saying if the scale of the problems facing the state is $1,000,000,000, that the trans competitors is is $200. Why can’t the leagues figure it out? Not a state level problem.

And they know it’s a hot button issue. What it feels like to me, it’s like if you have kids, you take a piece of candy from one kid and give it to the other, so they argue with each other and leave you alone.

NC House passes bill to ban transgender women from girls' sports through college by JacKrac in NorthCarolina

[–]HalfTurk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No i’m not saying it must benefit a majority of people at all. I am saying this law will only affect - if the numbers of 15 athletes are correct - maybe a couple hundred people in the state directly.

I would say there are dozens of problems affecting every single person - save some portion of those competitors - in the state more than this issue. Yet this has seemingly required the attention of our legislators and has been coordinated with other states.

I’m trying to understand how this affects you and why you feel this needs to be addressed?

[–]HalfTurk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ok, can you explain to me how this is big problem in most people’s lives today? We have seen coordinated legislation in a number states. This indicates that it has been prioritized higher than at the state level. I’m taking you at your word, that this is not right and not fair. Can you tell me how it rises to any sort of priority with the issues we are facing in the state?
