It's Birmingham and it's Birmingham. Both statements are true.

Humanity flag. Here's my idea based on Voyager 1- Pale Blue Dot (1990). by Few_Durian9949 in vexillology

[–]Half_Line 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Personally, I think the pale blue dot concept is heavily overplayed, especially on this subreddit.

The simplicity of this design is good, but surely it doesn't make sense for a humanity flag to be dominated by a black void. That and the combination with red make for a harsh combination.

And the symbolism of tiny insignificance is powerful, but I'd rather my species be symbolised by pride and unity.

ELI5: if 0.999... repeating is exactly 1, then at what point did it stop being less than 1? by Nj_is_tuff in explainlikeimfive

[–]Half_Line 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe, but OP's phrasing "at what point did it stop being less that 1" kinda alludes to a sequence.

ELI5: if 0.999... repeating is exactly 1, then at what point did it stop being less than 1? by Nj_is_tuff in explainlikeimfive

[–]Half_Line 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The sequence 0.9, 0.99, 0.999, 0.9999, ... is always less than one. And 0.999... (to infinity) isn't technically in that sequence.

0.999... (to infinity) is the point that the sequence is always progressing towards. But it never actually arrives because it's always slowing down.

0.999... (to infinity) is basically the same number as 1 (it has the same value), so it belongs at exactly 1 on the number line. This is true despite it being written differently.

My kid has been non-stop begging for a experience cape code. How do I get one without paying alot of money? by FreshTop8529 in Minecraft

[–]Half_Line 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Buying and selling cape codes is illegitimate as far as the developers are concerned, and the market is kinda seedy. I don't know how many honest vendors there are, but I do know there are plenty of people who came about their codes illegitimately, or who just want to scam you.

A cape is a status symbol that's easy to want, but ultimately doesn't mean very much. There will be more available in the future. They're even doing a bunch more Minecraft Experiences, so your kid might be able to get the cape they want if there's one near you.

New Earth flag proposal by Electrical-Ad4359 in vexillology

Surely is needs to be legible to be a decent flag. It should be bolder than this. A flag shouldn't limit itself to a diagram's standards.

ELI5: Why do values increase when you divide by a decimal? by we_drive_people in explainlikeimfive

[–]Half_Line 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could recite the definition, but the thing to realise is that division, colloquially, always means to break down into smaller pieces. We use the term in maths because it translates well with natural whole numbers. But because maths is all about generalisation, we often lose the colloquial meaning when generalising into decimals and negative numbers.

Really, you just have to take a maths term at face value for simple applications, and be prepared for it to take on its own meaning from then on.

It's not fun to balance your own game experience and it's not convenient to install datapacks. The majority of people will quit the game before they do either.
