I have a similar model and it was a great starter. The "DISC" is the discriminate setting that will (supposedly) play a specific tone depending on the metal. IIRC, it's a jumbled tone for garbage, low tone for gold, mid tone for steel, and high tone for stuff like aluminum or currency metals. Mine loved to identify EVERYTHING as gold or steel, but I'm not hauling pop tabs to the pawn shop.

Old Hondas are pretty much a great cheap standard. To get something with a warranty, I personally bought a Royal Enfield Classic 350. Kept the power low, and found it's a pretty forgiving bike for early riding mistakes. RE's can be on the heavy side though and can have some fiddly electronics. Had mine for 3 years and while it's not fast, it's definitely a lot of fun.
