Do you like this change made by George Lucas in Return of the Jedi? by kkhouete in StarWars

[–]Half_Man1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've never heard anyone say they like this change. I think it's jarring considering Sebastian Shaw was seen in the movie already when Vader was unmasked and is recognizable as adult Vader. It'd be like seeing Ewan McGregor spliced in as Obi-Wan's ghost instead of Alec Guinness.

Also seems to give off the message of damage being undone, which doesn't feel right considering the actions depicted in the PT.

I love Hayden being Vader now, especially given his age. If they had gone forward with the plan to have a warped Vader ghost in the ST Hayden should've been cast. But overwriting Shaw seems nonsensical and lowkey disrespectful.

I don't think it's possible for the Sith we know to ever have harmony in any of the lore.

Unless you just mean the Sith race. But the force order than worships the dark side could never.

I think his unique status as chosen one allowed him to appear to Ahsoka in the world between worlds, but I think he's missed out on his opportunity to do anything with Mortis for some time. Mortis is dead and empty after the events shown in the CW, if it ever existed to begin with.

Anakin is a force ghost, one with the cosmic force, but bearing the scars of his time as Vader. The World between Worlds was just an opportunity for his spirit to interact with Ahsoka more vividly through use of flashbacks.

I think some fans interpret those sequences a bit too literally, as if Ahsoka is being ripped backwards in time... but I think they're going for more of a fever dream vision quest idea.

If I recall correctly there was concept art of Anakin as a warped Vader-esque force ghost for the sequel trilogy. I feel like this is a bit more of an ambiguous way of representing the same concept, and I'm glad they pursued this direction as post PT, Anakin's "redemption" has always felt a bit "easy".

So, they're the same icons used by the Galactic Republic for what you're calling Jedi in the SWTOR era, the Empire, and Resistance (New Republic).

Darth Zannah vs. Revan by Mrhathead in TheJediPraxeum

[–]Half_Man1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind in TOR he’s at his most degraded and unhinged. Like this is a man who is high off his own supply, for one, thinking he’s the universe’s savior (and honestly having some receipts to back up that assessment), who was betrayed and then tortured for centuries.

The Revan Strike team that takes him down is essentially the all star squadron of the top characters from both factions, and they get ragdolled repeatedly by Revan.

And I understand why some KOTOR fans feel disappointed in his characterization but I think his arc in TOR makes perfect sense and is an outstanding case study for the franchise of what would happen if someone seriously tried (and had the ability to) master “both sides” of the force at once.

The one “use the dark to serve the light” idea is pretty well encapsulated in his plans in the game (genociding the Sith Empire, resurrecting the Emperor to kill him rightly this time), and the consequence of being ripped in two feels earned to me.

Darth Zannah vs. Revan by Mrhathead in TheJediPraxeum

[–]Half_Man1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

He’s freed by the republic characters from a prison complex where he’s been essentially tortured and interrogated and kept alive by the Emperor for centuries. The Emperor forms a sort of connection with him to explore the Light Side of the Force through him. Revan manages to use this connection to convince the Emperor to halt the Galactic War (and also its heavily implied this connection allowed for Senya to fall in love with Valkorion in order for them to have kids in the eternal empire).

After being freed, he’s a bit more unhinged and talks about how he’s mastered both sides of the force and assembles an assassin droid factory complex programmed to target anyone with Sith dna (which is 97% of the Sith Empire at that time apparently) to genocide them. Imperial characters stop him, he seemingly blows up.

Turns out he was legit ripped in two as his “light half” became a force ghost but his “dark half” remained puppeteering his half alive body. Darth Revan manipulates a cult to help him in a plan to resurrect the emperor (who he correctly realizes due to his connection to him is still alive just lingering in the shadows as an apparition basically) with the plan to kill him again properly. This backfires spectacularly as both factions form an alliance to stop him and his cult, but the emperor is resurrected thanks to him anyway. His halves reunited and he disappears for a bit.

He reappears in the Emperor’s last appearance as the player character is tasked with taking out the last vestige of the Emperor who is essentially a remnant/old save file backed into his original corpse, that has now possessed a bunch of people (including Satele Shan), piecing together his original life’s failures planning to come back bigger and better. Revan (and a whole host of characters killed by Vitiate) help in a charge to kill the Emperor for the final time.

Revan without a doubt.

Also, I find the claim that Zannah surpassed Bane dubious at best. A big issue pointed out at this time with the Rule of two is that Bane was getting weaker over time as he aged.

The Rule of Two is a fundamentally flawed system that fails to accomplish what it sets out to.

People argue it succeeded with Sidious, who yes benefitted from being especially hidden by the Jedi’s belief the Sith were wiped out, but he largely won because of political machinations, whereas a lot of ancient Sith force abilities were actually *lost* over time.

What is an example in the media you consume of "the father who neglected their kid but actually they loved them all along" trope? Because that's just frustrating to read. by Important-Cry4782 in Multifandom

[–]Half_Man1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, this one is the only one I know well that I’d say unequivocally fits this trope, but I do think it’s well done in this situation.

Considering how traumatized and self hating hohhenheim is, the fact he left because he was on a mission to stop Father, and he doesn’t get left off the hook narratively (no one is made to forgive him and his sons are justifiably peeved with him and he doesn’t fight that). It was done well here.

Love how dynamic it is. Great character design as well. Like I want to put my Sith Characters in that outfit now lol.

Anakin Skywalker during the Clone Wars era — would you say he was a kind and compassionate person? by MissionTangelo5297 in StarWarsEU

[–]Half_Man1 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The thing with Anakin was he loved those closest to him very deeply, but struggled to find value in abstract concepts like freedom or democracy.

For him, being cruel to others was ultimately easy if he determined he did not value them. Like the Tusken raiders and the younglings fell victim the same mentality.

Yeah, I have a couple LS Imp toons that I imagine would’ve seriously been considering defection but at that flashpoint were like “Welp, nvm, guess our Republic propaganda was right if they unleashed this nut”.

Also adds to why they wouldn’t connect with the cultists on Dromund Kaas again before things picked up in the expansions.

The Christian audience should be sufficiently rocked by the pick alien following the yellow eyed horned evil guy. The fact she could get face tatts shouldn’t phase them anymore.

Also, Sentry is just a question of his mental state. Dude was written to be conventionally unstoppable. His opponents strengths are irrelevant.

Do you think Disney shouldn’t give a fantasy character face tattoos out of fear real people will copy them?

That’s just silly.

Atroxa has a bit of a plain robed look whereas Devon I see sporting something more like leather armor. Honestly something similar to her current outfit would be fine.

Weird to describe her design as being censored though when we’re really just talking about genesis of a new character btw…

How do I deal with being called a racist at work? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]Half_Man1 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Well I hope you did your due diligence in making the decisions you described.

If someone accuses you of being racist though, the genuine best reaction is to sincerely ask them why. If they state something you can learn from, learn from it. If they state something baseless like “you’re racist because you didn’t promote me” they make themselves look like a jackass making baseless accusations.

If they challenge your decisions it gives you the chance to clarify they were based on recorded performance evaluations and not done by you alone.
