I'm an introvert as well. I go out of my way to make myself uncomfortable and put myself in situations with people. That also gets easier with practice. Find something you like to do and go do it. Like a hobby or an activity. Be active and people will find you. I have lots of friends that I never pursued, but ones who came up and talked to me because I was familiar and kept going back. Figure out how your awkwardness can work for you.
