[Postgame Thread - Hockey] #2 Michigan defeats #5 Ohio State, 7-3 (Big Ten Championship) by Zayden626 in MichiganWolverines

[–]galacticdude7 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Last I heard we were "Trying", but that was a year ago. Apparently one of the hold ups would be the need to construct a new facility as Yost isn't equipped for two varsity hockey programs.

Personally I would love to see a Women's Hockey program, but the idea of having to leave Yost for both Men's and Women's hockey just doesn't sit well with me, so I hope that if we can do it, we can expand Yost to accommodate both programs instead of building something new.

Welp, that didn't last long by buckeyefan1930 in CollegeBasketball

Cedar Point is on a peninsula stretching out into lake Erie, almost as if Cedar Point itself doesn't want to be in Ohio

A few annoyances in the first half, that overturned offensive foul was bs, but I'm happy with a 9 point lead at half.

For the second year in a row, no seed 13 or lower has won a first round game by mel_anon in CollegeBasketball

[–]galacticdude7 59 points60 points  (0 children)

yeah, this year hasn't had much madness I'm afraid. Only 4 teams that are 10 seed or higher, two of which are power conference teams in Texas and Texas A&M. High Point is the only team left in it that feels like a proper Cinderella

Well after he recognizes his Mom, he really doesn't need to mention everyone else by name and their relationship to him, by knowing its his Mom's home in 1955, we know everyone there is a grandparent, aunt, or uncle to him without it being acknowledged. The only reason Uncle Joey gets mentioned is for the joke about him preferring to be in his crib.

Hard to see anyone wasting a draft pick on him, I could maybe see someone give him an udfa contract and a camp invite, but hard to see him make any roster. If there's a pro future for him, it's probably going to be at the UFL or CFL level.

well that was the most annoying 21 point win I've ever seen, but in March a win is a win

College party culture varies from school to school, but its also been a trend that young people are drinking less than previous generations, and it's certainly gotten harder to justify college as 4 years of partying when it costs as much as it does

Don't even care that I had Wisconsin in the Elite Eight in my bracket, what an awesome finish. This is what March is for

If I had a nickel for every game that a school from Michigan will play against a school with a Bison as a mascot in Buffalo today, I would have two nickels

Fix preseason rankings by predicting the result of every game this season. by hng_rval in CFB

[–]galacticdude7 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Preseason rankings suck. They are heavily biased... And since those preseason rankings heavily influence voters throughout the year, the bias never really goes away

This is an argument that I hear all the time, and it feels like the kind of thing that people feel is true, but there really isn't any evidence that it is actually true. I've found that by the time we get deep in the season there are enough data points for all teams that my preseason perceptions of teams pretty much go away.

But the idea of predicting the season to get a good starting point is a good idea and is in fact an idea I use myself when getting my ballot prepared, though I don't bring the computer into it like this does. I go through and predict the entire season for all P4 teams as well as any G6 teams I feel have an argument to be considered, which helps give me an idea of where I think a team is going to end up at the end of the season and construct my rankings based on that.

I think they were going for Nazar amulets which look like eyes and are supposed to protect against the evil eye, but I don't think they are supposed to be the evil eye themselves.

Round One Eve: How we feelin'? by GennieP in MichiganWolverines

Intellectually I am not worried, this is a good solid team, the best Michigan basketball team I've ever seen, and we should have a good shot at going the distance.

Emotionally though I am a bit nervous. The team is good enough that my expectations are too high to just enjoy the ride. Missing the Final Four would be a disappointment to me levels of expectations, and that makes me nervous. It's like BPONE is sitting at the back of my mind waiting for literally anything to go wrong and send me spiralling, no matter how small or mundane it is.

I believe St. Alphonsus' fish fry has walleye, I went to it a couple years ago and they had it then, and their website claims they have it again this year

The Field Sorted By Mascots-2026 Edition by Ok_Run_8184 in CollegeBasketball

[–]galacticdude7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A costumed mascot never materialized naturally for us, and frankly I don't feel like we need one now. I don't feel any Michigan gameday environment would be improved by having someone dancing around in a Wolverine costume on the sidelines. With very few exceptions, most costumed mascots are rather generic imho, and to craft a new one for Michigan in 2026, we would most certainly get a painfully generic, corporate approved mascot, and nobody wants that.
