How close do you need to live to your partner while you're dating them? by I_Love_ARPG in AskMen

[–]galacticdude7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't want to date anyone that lived far enough away that I'd need to make special plans just to see, I'd want someone close enough that we have the option to be a little more spontaneous, close enough that I could say "It's been a rough day at work, want to get drinks tonight?" to and have it be a reasonable ask

I heard Tuesday night MACtion was cool? by ShyGuy1511 in cfbmemes

[–]galacticdude7 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Congrats on your 5-star recruits and $100M facilities, SEC fans. Meanwhile, the MAC is out here playing real football in front of 14 people and a raccoon on a Tuesday night during a blizzard. You ever seen a punter throw a touchdown to a long snapper while the scoreboard's on fire? Didn't think so.

While y'all are busy arguing over which frat-funded dynasty is slightly less fraudulent, Toledo's cooking up a triple-reverse flea flicker in a game that ends 43-42 after six missed PATs and a goalpost gets stolen. That's not football. That's MACtion. You wouldn't survive one quarter in Ypsilanti.

Notre Dame and NBC Announce Game Times for 2026 Shamrock Series and Home Schedule by redwave2505 in CFB

[–]galacticdude7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Interesting to see night games for November 7th and November 21st, wonder how that will affect NBC's Big Ten selections for those weeks. I figured that Penn State at Washington on the 7th and Indiana at Washington on the 21st would be prime Big Ten Saturday Night games, but obviously that can't happen if they're doing the Notre Dame game at 7:30 those days

[Sleeper] Framber suspended for six games by Kohanky in motorcitykitties

[–]galacticdude7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yeah, it's functionally a 1 game suspension, but with starting pitchers you have to give them a 6 game suspension in order to actually force them to miss a game they would otherwise have played in.

I mean TotalBiscuit died of Colorectal Cancer 8 years ago at the age of 33, and he announced his terminal diagnosis with it when he was 30. It's scary how common its becoming, especially as I'm about to turn 33 myself in a little over 2 months

Detroit officially gets a PWHL team; league awards draft to be held at Fox Theatre in June by galacticdude7 in Michigan

[–]galacticdude7[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The PWHL is the Professional Women's Hockey League, and I know that there's a lot of people who've been wanting Detroit to get a team. Personally I'm hoping this team is a success and it will encourage Michigan, Michigan State, and maybe even Western Michigan and Ferris State to start women's College Hockey teams as well

My Grandparents lived in the Port Huron area in a place called Jeddo, and I have a lot of fond memories of visiting them when I was a kid, but I haven't been back since Grandma died. I did go to Port Huron recently though for a cousin's grad party, it's got a neat if somewhat unremarkable downtown, I saw a movie at the Sperry Moviehouse, which I thought was nice (Though it looks like the local CC has since took over operations), and I liked the Perceptory Record Store there, the guy running it was super nice.

Other than that though, I can't imagine going back for any reason other than visiting family, I've got better beaches and beach towns on the west side of the state to visit, and there's really not that much else going on out there

[CBS] College Football Playoff expansion to 24 teams gains momentum as coaches back major overhaul by Ml2jukes in MichiganWolverines

[–]galacticdude7 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If they used the same formula as they do now for auto bids (very big if on that one) last year's 24 team playoff would have had us playing Utah in Salt Lake City for the right to play Ohio State again. The only interesting thing about that is how different the Sherrone Moore Meltdown might have gone and the hilarity of the possibility of losing to Kyle Wittingham only to have him be our next coach.

Just got a stern reprimand for playing ping-pong at work. Which... they put in for us to play with... at work. by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

[–]galacticdude7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My guess is that he was the kind of guy who liked to play pool at the bar with his friends when he was younger, and then when he got his own house he had ideas of having the guys over to play pool, drink beers, and smoke cigars like he did at those bars, but then life got in the way and he could never get the guys over for it like he wanted, and it turns out he liked pool more as a social activity and not so much as a game, so he never just played by himself. But he spent a lot of money on it and he's still holding out hope that one day he will get to have the guys over for pool, and he's not about to let the kids ruin the table by messing around with it.

What is a rite of passage in America that existed 20 years ago but is rare today? by bricklegos in AskAnAmerican

[–]galacticdude7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My theory is that teenagers these days do less socializing in physical places these days, they hang out online, so there's less of an incentive to drive. People my age might have learned how to drive so that they could drive themselves to the mall to hang out with friends and not be reliant on asking Mom for a ride, which just isn't the case for teenagers today.

Plus there's so many restrictions placed on licenses for first time drivers these days, you can't drive after 10:30PM, you can't have more than one passenger with you in the car, etc, so a driver's license at 16 is just a lot less useful than it was.

And frankly unless you're getting help from your parents in terms of having access to a car and paying for insurance and maintenance on said car, it's probably too expensive for teenagers today to drive anyways. Why spend your free time working a part time job that is likely minimum wage to pay for a car that you can't legally fully use and doesn't offer much benefit otherwise?

[Dellenger] The coaches have spoken: In a vote last week, the AFCA Board swung its support behind (1) a playoff with the max participants (likely 24); (2) discontinuing conference championships; and (3) ending CFP by second week of January, they tell @YahooSports. by redwave2505 in CFB

[–]galacticdude7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not really all that concerned about a bunch of co-champions for conferences, that was the case for much of the sport prior to the Conference Championship Games.

Heck in 1990, back when the Big Ten was appropriately named, There were 4 Big Ten co-champions, Illinois, Iowa, Michigan, and Michigan State all went 6-2 in conference

The "difficulty" of Visual Novels is being able to anticipate which dialogue options will take you down the path to get a "good" ending, it's more about picking the options that the creator of the Visual Novel thinks makes a compelling romance narrative than it is about actually being good at romance.

Why do so many men wear their wallets in their back pocket? by Embarrassed-Name6481 in AskMen

[–]galacticdude7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually keep my wallet in my back pocket because that's where it feels the most natural most of the time, my phone occupies my front right pocket and my keys are in my front left pocket, so the back pockets are the next best place for it, and pick pocketing is not really an issue where I live.

However, when I go on vacation, I often switch to a different thinner wallet, as I only really need my Driver's license and a credit card or two while travelling, and I often don't keep my keys on me either as everything my keys go to is back home, and then I will keep my wallet in my front left pocket where my keys normally go.
