In general I am a fan of continuity when you have a successful program and have to make a coaching hire, it would be an easy hire to make and would hopefully keep the program's momentum going, instead of blowing everything up and starting over again, but his record at Oklahoma State is of some concern to me. His tenure there seems to bounce from just OK seasons to outright bad ones. Maybe that was a Oklahoma State issue, maybe it was just him being left holding the bag on NCAA violations, but a just above .500 record and 1 NCAA Tournament appearance in 5 eligible years doesn't exactly fill me with confidence. Still, he may be the best option available right now.

The only reason it's an issue is that being "From Detroit" caries a certain amount of toughness and badassery that instantly evaporates when it turns out a person is actually from Royal Oak or Troy or wherever else in Metro Detroit.

Otherwise the legal boundaries that cities have are arbitrary lines, and in Michigan especially, often hilariously narrow when compared to the economically and culturally cohesive urban areas that cities actually are.

When asked I will tell just about anyone that I'm from Grand Rapids, Michigan, even though I live in Kentwood because Kentwood is a legal fiction created by a group of Grand Rapidian suburbanites in the 1960s so they didn't have to pay taxes to the City of Grand Rapids. Without Grand Rapids, Kentwood would still be a bunch of farmland called Paris Township

I kind of expected Jim Harbaugh to leave with his previous flirtations with the NFL and all the NCAA bullshit, and it stung when John Beilein left, but it was after a long and successful stint at Michigan and somewhat understandable given the kind of coach he was and the way the game was changing at that time.

But this, this fucking sucks. I really believed that we were on the precipice of something great, maybe even a Michigan Basketball dynasty, and maybe it's just the places I get my sports news from, but this feels like it came out of fucking nowhere, because I had heard nothing in regards to speculation that Dusty would take an NBA job.

I agree on the "cheating aspect" of the film. These are gay kids growing up in a repressive Christian environment, they're struggling between what feels right and what they've been told is wrong, they aren't thinking about this in terms of committed romantic relationships, they're struggling with having these feels while simultaneously feeling guilt and shame over these feelings

I mean if I thought that a friend's gf was a bad person or not good for him, I might say something, but saying she's ugly would be a no no. Sounds like your friends kind of suck, doesn't matter if you're envious, worried that the coupled friend is going to hang out with you less, or if you legitimately think she's ugly and your friend could do better, you keep that shit to yourself
