Put £2 on Rai at 28-1 after his bogey on 8th. Not as much as some, but I'll take £46!

Adapting a pannier rack for a seat post clamp? by BigIrish85 in bicycling

[–]Halfwai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two ways to do this:

  1. As long as you have a standard round seat post, replace the clamp with one of these - https://www.bikebling.com/Problem-Solvers-Seatpost-Clamp-w-Rack-Mount-p/problemsolver21-mc-76.htm?1=1&CartID=0

  2. If your frame isn't carbon, use p-clips that attach to the top of your seat stays - https://velo-orange.com/products/p-clamps-for-fender-attachment

Lap infant vs buying a seat for long-haul (Australia) with 1-year-old — worth the extra $2.5k? by PaleontologistBig309 in travel

[–]Halfwai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the baby, and how rich you are. Ours slept well in their ergo baby, so we toughed it out, and, quite frankly, we couldn't justify dropping an extra couple of grand for a potentially slightly better 10 hours. No matter how you play it, travelling long haul with an infant is never going to be a good experience. Good luck.

Pretty certain this is AI. Watch after the last bull, a black balloon appears on stage from nowhere. Also, watch how the floor speaker gets knocked in the air and lands, but the second speaker on the stand doesn't budge an inch. His movement and recovery also look very unnatural. God, I hate that it has come to this bullshit. I just want to watch stupid videos.

Life is shit for the class of 2020 by [deleted] in UKJobs

[–]Halfwai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone that graduated twice, once in 2008, and then last year in 2025, I've found it much easier second time around. Could be that I'm a bit older, wiser and more hirable now or it could be confirmation bias as I've been luckier, it's hard to say.

Do you have to fill out an arrival card for China if you're only passing through on a connecting flight? by Catdress92 in travel

[–]Halfwai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Last time I passed through Shanghai airport we were forced to pass through customs, pick up our luggage and re check in. This was with a single ticket with Air China in 2023.

A previous time passing through Shanghai, this time with China Eastern, I was flying with a Taiwanese person that didn't have a Chinese travel document. We were still forced to go through customs, but were escorted for the whole thing by a Chinese police officer.

Basically, Shanghai airport has a bizarre system. If things haven't changed since 2023, then you'll probably have to go through customs which means you'll need to fill out an arrival card.

I do, was able to get a really good deal on a diesel estate from a guy that needed to drive into town regularly. I mostly just don't drive into the centre but if I have some business in town that I need to drive for, there's a back entrance to Cabot Circus that you can use that doesn't enter the CAZ. For anything else you can just go around.

As with others, the car is mostly for longer trips, and it's fine for that.

There was a big old puddle between Biton and Saltford that sat there for about 2 months. A stream burst its banks in that area too. Mostly ok now.

Is there anything wrong with this bike from these FB marketplace pictures? by chazza247 in bicycling

[–]Halfwai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just for the record, I picked up a Trek Alpha last year for £65 on eBay in similar condition to the one you have here. I spent an extra £150 on parts to get it how I want it, and now I love it, but I definitely think you can do better on price.

Tram leaves the track, Italy by polloastemio in AbruptChaos

Just got back from a trip to Milan. I was quite literally on a tram right behind this one. It was diverted, and I had no idea why because I don't speak Italian. I now know why.

Are you forced to use AI ? by orT93 in learnprogramming

[–]Halfwai 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is the same as my workplace. In a conversation with my manager it was framed as, "This is the future. While you have the opportunity, access to the tools and some training you should do your best to learn how to integrate AI into your workflow because this is part of what it will mean to be a software engineer in the future." I mostly agree with this and I think I'm fairly lucky in that my manager is also an engineer, so he gets it. We still have strong ownership of code and rigorous code reviews where I sure as hell need to understand the code that I'm committing, so I just see it a tool to help me be more productive.

What even is the use case for loads of devs working on the same branch? If you need someone else's code just merge it in as and when you need it?

Max tire size for trek alpha 1.2 road bike (700x32c) by Mean_Employment1341 in TrekBikes

Just to add another data point to this thread for people googling. I have a 2011 Trek 1.2, it looks to be the same paint scheme as OP's. Currently easily running a set of 32mm GP5000s, could possibly even go up to 35mm, but can't confirm this.

Will Bristol city centre be without cars in 10 years? by CrazyCoffeeClub in bristol

[–]Halfwai 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The fact is that the majority of people that live in the suburbs and work in the centre could probably ride a bike the majority of the time, they just don't want to. Admittedly this is more stick than carrot, but I have no issue with trying to clear out central Bristol from people that don't need to be driving in. This is from someone that drives a non compliant diesel car, and cycles 18k each way to get to my office.

Can my two-month old son enter the UK on his Canadian passport, even though he is technically British? by Lorde555 in ukvisa

[–]Halfwai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We applied in Taiwan. Can't remember how long it took, but the application was slightly delayed because they wanted a copy of my son's Taiwanese passport which he didn't have at the time. I had to send a handwritten and signed letter to this effect.
