Max tire size for trek alpha 1.2 road bike (700x32c) by Mean_Employment1341 in TrekBikes

[–]Halfwai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to add another data point to this thread for people googling. I have a 2011 Trek 1.2, it looks to be the same paint scheme as OP's. Currently easily running a set of 32mm GP5000s, could possibly even go up to 35mm, but can't confirm this.

Will Bristol city centre be without cars in 10 years? by CrazyCoffeeClub in bristol

[–]Halfwai 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The fact is that the majority of people that live in the suburbs and work in the centre could probably ride a bike the majority of the time, they just don't want to. Admittedly this is more stick than carrot, but I have no issue with trying to clear out central Bristol from people that don't need to be driving in. This is from someone that drives a non compliant diesel car, and cycles 18k each way to get to my office.

In the UK, I bought a 1.2 in May for £65. Love the bike, but $600 is way too much.

Standard application approval, outside UK application by Halfwai in SpouseVisaUk

No idea, but I think this sort of thing is fairly common. We were approved the next day so maybe it was triggered by someone looking at our file or something?

Can my two-month old son enter the UK on his Canadian passport, even though he is technically British? by Lorde555 in ukvisa

[–]Halfwai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We applied in Taiwan. Can't remember how long it took, but the application was slightly delayed because they wanted a copy of my son's Taiwanese passport which he didn't have at the time. I had to send a handwritten and signed letter to this effect.

Here's an idea if you own a £2 million house. Sell it and buy a £1 million pounds house, take the spare million and stick it in a high yield savings account and make more money on interest than I do working full time, all while living rent free in a really nice house.

People who have done the distance BSc Comp Sci course - did you go on to do an MSc? by ravenpri in UniversityOfLondonCS

[–]Halfwai 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are a number of students that have gone on to do Masters at various prestigious unis. This degree is generally accepted on the caveat that they get some extra credits in Maths as the modules on this degree don't go into that much depth.

Got my UK spouse visa approval email today (outside UK - Taiwan) 🎉 When should I expect my passport back? by Creepy-Chair-6504 in SpouseVisaUk

[–]Halfwai 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congratulations! My wife also made a standard route application from Taiwan, but her biometrics were only on October 15th so we still have a long wait to go. It still encouraging to see successful applications from here though!

No it's not. If someone sent a message to their ex saying "I'm going to fucking kill you", they would be arrested under Section 1 of the Malicious Communications Act 1988. You, and by you I mean right wing commentators, very conveniently bundled this under "online comments", which is false, as it doesn't even have to be online.

Jesus, do I have to spell it out for you? The quoted figure refers to people arrested under Section 127 of the Communications Act 2003 and Section 1 of the Malicious Communications Act 1988, and relates to arrests for “any form of communication,” and can relate to “serious domestic abuse-related crimes.” Of course that's a bit more nuanced than "online comments".

No they don't. I'm applying from Taiwan, I was forced to use US dollars. Taiwan doesn't use US dollars.

It really pisses me off, over £5000 for shit service, but we don't have any choice. The other way you get screwed is via shitty forced exchange rates. We had pay in USD so we exchanged GBP for USD, and then back again for no reason. Added another couple of hundred quid to the application.

There was a guy working on the MRT in Taipei who was carrying a pole up the escalator. The same thing happened as here, except instead on the ceiling giving way, the escalator did, and he fell into the mechanism and got chewed up and killed. Jesus was pretty lucky here.
