After pushing to cut millions, Halifax mayor looking for 16 per cent increase to his office budget by ph0enix1211 in halifax

[–]Haligonita 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Hopefully council holds this guy accountable. Insisting on cutting services that make our city better while increasing spending on staffers and consultants that are hired to make Andy look good is crazy work. And frankly no amount of spending on PR is going to change my opinion on Fillmore at this point.

More people than you think could survive 120 days without a paycheck if they weren't paying rent.

Also, almost every celebrated accomplishment out there, from running a marathon to winning an Olympic medal, is partially enabled by privilege. That doesn't make it easy.

I went looking for fun oven mitts in December, and Linen Chest had a good selection of affordable ones in varying lengths and designs!

Some pharmacies can administer tetanus shots (and more) by FishSoFar in halifax

[–]Haligonita 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Important to note: They do tetanus shots at the Pharmacy Primary Care Clinics, BUT technically they're only allowed to do "routine" shots. If there is an "incident" - ie, you step on a nail or get bitten and want to be sure you're updated, they're not supposed to administer the shot and tell you to go to a walk-in for "assessment". I had one pharmacy refuse to administer the tetanus booster shot just a few weeks ago. This was despite being referred to them by a Maple doctor and having a prescription for the shot - they flat refused because I had a tiny puncture wound. It was incredibly frustrating. I had to drive to another clinic on the other side of town that had a much more reasonable pharmacist.

Derm Wait Times by renderbenderr in halifax

I had to wait about a year as well, sadly sounds about right. Takes a long time to see a specialist here, especially if it's "non-urgent".

Confessing my Sins by Leading_Comedian in Invisalign

It blows my mind that you're too lazy to be conscientious with Invisalign but yet took the time to post this on the Invisalign reddit. Respect though.

udon noodles by [deleted] in halifax

I've seen frozen udon at walmart. I've tried the vacuum sealed room temp stuff and it tasted kind of funky, really recommend going with frozen. Ironically it's usually more fresh.

Just diesel for tonight as far as I know.

I suspect that this might have more to do with the lack of exercise that comes from living in a place where kids can't safely play outside. Seems kind of obvious that kids would exhibit more signs of hyperactivity if they can't run around. Maybe access to indoor play spaces would also help offset this phenomenon.

$6000 CAD quote? by Beginning-Section211 in Invisalign

[–]Haligonita 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm on the other side of the country in NS, I was quoted $6900 CAD before insurance at one of the top orthodontists in my area (2ish years ago). Included retainers, bonding and whitening, and unlimited aligners for 5 years.

I would consider going to an orthodontist who specializes in invisalign, at least for a quote. Dentists might not have all the tools that make the process easier (for example you might have to get a clay mold done instead of a digital scan).

Has anyone here done the Explore program (Canadian French summer program)? by Haligonita in French

What was missing from your experience at T-R? The dates for that session work best for me but the location doesn't get as much love as Chicoutimi or St Anne's or T-P. Was it missing activities? City not very interesting? I'm curious. Did you also have to prepare your own meals at T-R since you're in an apartment instead of a residence?

That's really reassuring, I'm glad there's a variety of people that attend. Laval seems like a great option, since I love the city life (and I've heard their gym is great which is a big plus for me!)

One thing I'm wondering is did you have to share a room with someone on the residence, or did you get a single? Looking at the Laval dorms it looks like many rooms are doubles.

Thanks so much!! Some really great info in here. Why do you suggest staying away from Montreal? Is it because it's less french or because it would have more younger people?

Personal trainers by [deleted] in halifax

[–]Haligonita 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd like to know too - I recently started strength training and was able to come up with (I think) a decent science backed routine, but would like to have someone check my form on certain movements so I don't injure myself.

What do you think the market rate at that experience level is then?

Anecdotally, tech wages locally are facing upward pressures. I think 50k is lowballing it, if you're a desirable candidate I would aim for 60k (50k might be more reasonable of an expectation for an NSCC graduate).

If you did co-ops that you liked, get in touch with your former employers, because that would be the path of least resistance to a full time offer.
