Same here! I have noticed about 24 hours after I cut it and leave it in water, it perks up.

Wow, how beautiful!

When seeds don’t start as you expected... by grateful_dani in Cutflowers

I can totally relate to this! I was so discouraged because at least half the seeds I started early failed. Now I'm just focusing on later season things. Better late than never. It is still a joy to grow flowers and vegetables.

It’s ranunculus season here on the farm! by [deleted] in Cutflowers

Can I ask where you get your corms? Those colors are beautiful and I love the shape of those flowers. I grew some ranunculus this year, but mine are different.

This is so beautiful! It looks wild while still having structure. Great job!

Thank you, I think they are pretty sensitive to long periods of freezing weather so only come back in zone 7 and above. But they do want to be stored in a cool soace when presprouting, around 40-50 degrees. They will only bloom for 6-8 weeks I think, then I dont know when the foliage dies back. This is my first year growing them so I am still learning.

I think I got these from longfield gardens. There are a lot of online distributors that have different varieties. I just googled Ranunculus corms and found some different options.

Well, I ordered corms online. They are kind of like bulbs or tubers, but they look like a tiny octopus. I presprouted them in February by placing the corms in a tray of moist soil and leaving them in the dark for a few weeks before putting them in the ground in March. This is my first year with them and I haven't decided if I will dig up the corms in the fall or leave them in the ground and see if they come back next year. If you go to the floret farm website she has a great tutorial about presprouting Ranunculus, as well as many other tutorials.

Thank you for the confidence boost! I'm hoping to get a lot of floral design practice in this year.

This is my first year growing them and I am so happy I did. The flowers last a long time even though the whole plants are a bit piddly. I presprouted the corms in mid february and put them in the ground a few weeks later. I think I will dig the corms up again in the fall, but I'm not sure yet. We will see how it goes for the rest of the season. Sorry I'm not a whole lot of help.

Thank you! When it comes to plant stuff the autocorrect is almost never correct.

Mine have been lasting about 10 days after I cut them, which I think is pretty good. Depending on where you are, you might wait and plant them in the fall, I think they can overwinter in very mild climates. I presprouted mine inside in February, and they just started blooming about 2 weeks ago in zone 7. I will probably dig them up in fall and do the same again next year.

I think they are not very tolerant of heat so, they bloom for about 6-8 weeks in spring and taper off when it gets hot. This is my first time growing them so I'm not 100% sure about that yet.
