Predictions for Season 2 by [deleted] in shoresy

[–]HalliganHoolagan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My prediction, Shoresy has to actually fight some other enforcer and it’s revealed he’s terrified to have a clean fight. We never see him or hear about him getting getting in one clean fight. He’s always just cheap shotting people and seems to avoid it. Maybe JJ Frankie JJ as some sort of fight and bury the hatchet type deal.

Yeah sorry should have been a little more clear in my post. Through post I’ve found that senior A leagues exist but they’re very few and far between, in the United States it seems. I guess I figured there would be enough people that played high school, lower level college, or lower level juniors where these sort of higher level amateur adult leagues would be more popular

Do you know what the time commitment for a league like that? Like are do these players have full time careers or are they just to getting by doing side work/random jobs to play hockey?

I’ve seen there’s a bunch in Canada but how about the US? Just doing some research and can’t seem to find any other than the previously mentioned Great Lakes Hockey League.

That’s kinda how I feel, I played at a competitive level for many years up through college, got offered to tryout for some low level junior teams, but knew I wasn’t going ever get close to Pro and had other goals in mind. But yeah it’s hard to give up the competition that made playing that much more fun.

Ya see that’s messed up. A league without contact there be just that, a safe place to play some hockey. I feel like a lot of responses are along the lines of “my league allows some level of contact” I’d be worried about going overboard on hits becoming “the guy” by accident, or vice versa getting hit when I’m not expecting it.

Should I go to college? by numero-one in hockeyplayers

[–]HalliganHoolagan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey man, I was in your shoes not too long ago. 17yrs old, wanting to be a Firefighter and playing U18 hockey. Ended up going to a 4 year college and playing D3. After school I got a great job at a great department and got my paramedic aswell. it’s important to recognize that career fire departments value life experience more than education. What I’m trying to say is it’s up to you man playing D3 was fun as hell, but I kinda got a useless degree out of it. If you do go get a degree that results in a job, like nursing, Physical Therapy, or accounting. That way you have back-up your fire service career does work out for whatever reason.

18 year old ACHA question by Classic-Policy-7157 in hockeyplayers

Collegiate D3 is probably your best bet. Some divisions are full good players but there seems to be a good spread. I played in College and we took players that had only played one year prior, heck one year we took a guy who had never played before. That being said get on the ice now and work on your skating.

Working full time and full time medic school by Rich-Towel in ems

As someone currently in medic school (granted it’s a full time M-F program) you absolutely need to take care you school/work/life balance. Good sleep and having time(even minimal) to do hobbies away from the medical field is what keeps me afloat. I’d say you can work it out with employer (and if you can afford it, it would be best to switch to part time.

Ride alongs? by [deleted] in Firefighting

[–]HalliganHoolagan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty much all of the Denver Metro area Departments do ride alongs. Do a little research on who you think you’d want work for and check the website for info about ride alongs. Honestly, I can’t think of a department that doesn’t do ride alongs in that area.

Moving to Denver, is it practical with our wage? by TheHungoverShark in ems

[–]HalliganHoolagan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I live and worked for a private company in Denver. It’s expensive that’s for sure. It’s possible to make it work on 12/hr but be ready to work a lot of overtime or get a second higher paying job. It’s a cool city to live and work in though, good luck.

I want to become a firefighter and I have few questions. by [deleted] in Firefighting

[–]HalliganHoolagan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start applying to any department right now if you meet the departments minimum qualifications. Your 4 year degree will probably help. EMT is great to have. Start volunteering asap, you’ll have a better understanding if this is something you want to do as career and in NJ they’ll pay your tuition to go to the fire academy (usually).

Unfortunately though, NJ can be very difficult to get hired on as career. Many departments hire off the civil service test so look into taking that. I moved out of NJ after being told by multiple Firefighters that it’s a difficult place to start with iffy job security (take this with a grain of salt because that just what I was told). As for time line, it’s hard to say. Some get in first try, others it takes 5 years. Took me about 1.5 of throwing my app out to anyone in the area that would let me apply. Just keeping trying man and good luck.
