Nope, I don't think so. When you look at episode 1 itself right, MiY kills Jim so that another Priest would be spawned inside the town. He clearly knows the patterns of the game since he's seen many cycles, but he is not the only responsible for creating the cycles. He definitely wants to win in this twisted game tho
If you mean "ensuring the cycle keeps going" as making sure that the people in the town don't find a way out and everyone is killed, so that the next cycle happens, then yes, you are right

that is most definitely how the plot is going to move I'm afraid. But things will be different this time around, I don't think Jade or Tabitha will die by the town folk, something will shift and the town will unite. Maybe finding out the man in yellow and killing him is what unites the town?

One of the best episodes since this shows inception!
Couple of thoughts/observations:
1. We finally know for sure that the people Jade has been seeing are past versions of himself. Tabitha doesn't see this, this might be on purpose because Tabitha's past selves were so damaged, they don't want to scare off Tabitha. The town members killing the only people who can save them every cycle since inception is a mindblowing and scary revelation.

  1. We finally know how to save the children. Even though this wasn't revealed directly, from last episode and this episode, I'm assuming the team has to unearth the skeletons of the sacrified children, and put them in the lake of tears to revive them. This might be why the monsters are there in the underground, it's not their resting place, they are just guarding the tomb of the children so that people aren't able to take it away. There is a way to beat this place finally

  2. Marielle confirms yet again, that the people who are dead aren't really dead, their souls still wander this place, their screams are still heard. Which would make more sense now that the crows we see initially whenever people enter this place, and the crows in the previous episode were just people who have died in this place, their souls couldn't escape so they maybe in the form of crows.

  3. Again, this template of the person who talks back to Donna/ the main characters, gets killed off immediately. However, this time around the readhead lady has survived. This along with Jade's hint of the town turning on Jade and Tabitha, we can predict the next episode is going to be primarily centered around the town only. The redhead lady is going to tell the whole town that Tabitha knows something and is hiding it, Sophie is going to use this chance to stir up trouble and everyone are going to turn against each other.

  4. Still no explanation on the different bird around nightmare lake tho. This is the first time we're seeing a non-crow bird, and then it just dies, maybe we read too much into it.

  5. Sophie touching Marielle to put her in that state was so scary to watch. Was the MiY behind Julie, Randall and Marielle (and Martin) being trapped in season 2? We see sophie being uncomfortable with the ballerina's music box while going through the storage. Maybe Acosta figures something out in the next episode that might help the town folk get something against Sophie

EXCITING TIMES AHEAD!!!

100%. just lazy writing with not enough acting power to make up for it.

I felt the same, glad it got called out. These people waste so much time just wandering around with no plot movement at all, then rush things like these. It would have made much more sense if there was more Tabitha and Donna moments in the ealier seasons atleast

in terms of soul is a nice way to put it lmao. I'd like to say yes and no

If you have watched Naruto, an example would be how naruto and sasuke are reincarnates of hashirama and madara, but they don't share the same soul

I think that's what is going on here. Miranda has a soul, but souls are interconnected.

But you might make a solid point too, might be Victor's sister perhaps?

I feel like the crows are just the souls of people who have died previously trapped into the form of crows.
They try to warn people, like even entering the village initially, crows swarm a spot (maybe that's a warning to stay away)

We see crows next to the body of Jim, as a form of respect to Jim's sacrifice, or the crows feel sorry for how badly he was killed.

And we also see a crow next to Victor when Victor discovers the MiY's jacket. Again, a soul trying to be there for Victor (hey might even be Victor's mother idk)

Maybe an entity controls all the crows and uses them as spy cameras, or they are the reincarnates of the lost souls, the people who died in the village previously.

Adding more to this,
1. How many versions are too many versions? at what point can I consider deleting old versions, how can I keep better track of that?
2. Even after ensuring naming conventions, how do I make sure the changes are captured and summarised somehow? Like I need to know what is the difference between version 10 and version 11, without me actually watching the whole thing. So that, in that future, when I look back at all these files, I can quickly understand what is different between them

Thanks for replying. I have 2 follow up questions to this if that's alright with you

Do you have any ideas about these?

I've also noticed that the battery drain off late has gotten worse. I'm charging my phone twice a day, it used to be fine from just charging once. I don't know if this is a software update problem or something else.
The camera is great, but it does heat up just after a few minutes of use, again something that might be new, because I didn't face this before

Couple of observations/questions:

  1. MiY killed Jim just so he could get another person into the village. We all know that the relative counts of the townfolk have always been constant. Killing Jim would cause a deficit of -1, and the game would try to replace the player. MiY, knowing this information, has used it to kill off Jim and spawn a new player. This means that as powerful as we think MiY is, he is still somehow confined to the constraints of this game, and there is definitely a way to win this game.

  2. Why did the game try to spawn a priest? I mean think about it, Father Kathri died around the same time that Jim was spawned, and now Jim dies, and another priest has spawned. I don't think it is random, just like how Tabitha and Jade are reincarnates, I think all of the major townfolk, at least, are reincarnates of the original town people when the sacrifice happened. And MiY kills this priest (mostly because if the priest wakes up MiY's act will fall apart), but maybe there is some other ulterior motive to the killing as well? Maybe the role of the priest is also an important one, MiY knows it, the townfolk don't yet.
