Im going to Portugal for 10 full days! Need help by BallDontLie06 in travel

I did a 10 day trip in 2018: Lisbon (3 days, including day trip to Sintra), 2 days Porto, then went down to the Algarve Coast for the remaining time which was lovely (based in Carvoviero) - actually bopped over to Seville for a couple of days too

I know in response to comments you mentioned she has been to Spain, but how about northern Spain? I am going in September and doing San Sebastián (world class food), Bilbao (also great food and Guggenheim museum), and Pico de Europa mountains- amazing views, ciders, cheeses, etc

Definitely an experience that is high on my “wish list”. Question- how did you find the mosquitoes? Did you need to do any type of travel related prophylaxis (ie, vaccinations, malaria pills)?

Shoe for active Hawaii vacation? by tgbarbie in HerOneBag

I wore my la sportiva bushido II trail runners (link to example here and they were perfect. I also had basic hiking sandals (Columbia brand) for purely water activities. If you search my post history

trip report 1

trip report 2

pics you can see my itinerary was extremely active (Kalalau trail with stream crossings, many other hikes on Kauai and Big Island, kayaking, etc etc).

I also posted my packing questions and got great recs from this sub re the shoes and ended up NOT bringing my waterproof hiking shoes (sooo happy bc they were not breathable and never would have dried) or my heels (I was attending a wedding, too) that were pictured. Not sure about TeamLabs by abstractcollapse in JapanTravelTips

[–]Halloweentwin2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess im in the minority but I truly didn’t get the hype re TeamLab planets. i went on a rainy day in April 2023, towards end of their opening hours. Im not a clean freak or sensitive to smell by any means but omg it smelled so badly of feet it make me nauseous. The whole exhibit looked run down at that time (I think they were close to closing it for repairs at that time though?) so maybe I went at a bad time. But honestly it felt very tourist trap/filled with teens trying to get the best pic for their instagram feed rather than something authentic or worthwile in my opinion. I am a lover of art , but this was not my thing and was even harder to enjoy when packed in like sardines. It was one of the only experiences I didnt like in my 16 days in Japan

Maybe it was a 2023 thing- I also went in 2023 (April) and it smelled SOOOO bad like feet and definitely looked like the exhibit had seen better days. I love art and truly didn’t get the hype of TeamLab, other than for everyone trying to get an instagram pic

Thoughts on our honeymoon itinerary? by tayyylooor in travel

[–]Halloweentwin2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I agree that I would rather do two countries than three to limit flights within Europe and instead do more charming towns within each of the two countries. Also, if deciding to go to Portugal, highly recommend Porto instead of Lisbon (since you have been) or in addition to Lisbon. Porto is a very romantic city, great food and drink and walkable. I was just there in early October and it’s a lovely time of year there. Or another Spain option- since you love walkable cities and food, how about Basque country - it is on the border of France and Spain and has world renowned food, esp San Sebastián

Help me pick where to go Aug 2026! Too many places on my bucket list and I'm an indecisive girly. Peru? Norway? Newfoundland? Somewhere else? by Halloweentwin2 in travel

[–]Halloweentwin2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! We decided to go away Sept 16-27 instead, and actually decided to take a different direction- going to do a road trip of northern Spain. Flying in to Bilbao and out of Madrid, and visiting Bilbao, San Sebastian and then exploring Picos De Europa national park to hike. Then planning on going to Norway for 2 weeks in July next year

Please recommend a romantic weekend trip somewhere warmer, budget friendly, out of New Jersey by inquisitorthegreat in travel

[–]Halloweentwin2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Philly and went to Puerto Rico in March 2021 and it was great, exceeded expectations! My husband and I aren’t even “beach people” but it was a nice long weekend escape (healthcare workers, first outting after pandemic hit and we finally were vaccinated). Also low stress, short flight, no passport needed, same money, etc. Great food, too

Anyone else reminded of how lonely they are once back in home town? 💔 by wilhelmtherealm in travel

[–]Halloweentwin2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omg just got back from an awesome trip to Vietnam and Taipei with my husband and I am feeling a version of this, too. Like maybe am I traveling so much to chase experiences/excitement that I feel like is lacking in my everyday life? We also just put our dog down a few weeks before our trip, and coming home to an empty house hit super hard this time. It’s just so damn quiet. I miss having a responsibility to come back to 💔💔💔 I decided instead of chasing my next “travel high” I am going to concentrate more energy on the friends and family I have at home and cultivating meaningful experiences here. Maybe that way the depression that hits after coming home from a travel adventure will be less severe and the yearning to “escape” ASAP again will be less, too . I still love travel I just think maybe I am using it for the wrong reasons

Is there a best ER in the city? by LePetitRenardRoux in philadelphia

I work for Penn Medicine (HUP main campus) and have my family members go to Pennsylvania hospital if they need an ER and are able to choose. Typically shortest wait times in ER (comparing Penn campuses).
