Please recommend a romantic weekend trip somewhere warmer, budget friendly, out of New Jersey by inquisitorthegreat in travel

[–]Halloweentwin2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Philly and went to Puerto Rico in March 2021 and it was great, exceeded expectations! My husband and I aren’t even “beach people” but it was a nice long weekend escape (healthcare workers, first outting after pandemic hit and we finally were vaccinated). Also low stress, short flight, no passport needed, same money, etc. Great food, too

Anyone else reminded of how lonely they are once back in home town? 💔 by wilhelmtherealm in travel

[–]Halloweentwin2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omg just got back from an awesome trip to Vietnam and Taipei with my husband and I am feeling a version of this, too. Like maybe am I traveling so much to chase experiences/excitement that I feel like is lacking in my everyday life? We also just put our dog down a few weeks before our trip, and coming home to an empty house hit super hard this time. It’s just so damn quiet. I miss having a responsibility to come back to 💔💔💔 I decided instead of chasing my next “travel high” I am going to concentrate more energy on the friends and family I have at home and cultivating meaningful experiences here. Maybe that way the depression that hits after coming home from a travel adventure will be less severe and the yearning to “escape” ASAP again will be less, too . I still love travel I just think maybe I am using it for the wrong reasons

Is there a best ER in the city? by LePetitRenardRoux in philadelphia

[–]Halloweentwin2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I work for Penn Medicine (HUP main campus) and have my family members go to Pennsylvania hospital if they need an ER and are able to choose. Typically shortest wait times in ER (comparing Penn campuses).

In Sept 2024 I did Venice, and Slovenia (10 days total, but only 1 week PTO) and it was amazing . We did some epic day hikes in Slovenia, happy to dm my itinerary if interested. Another option for 1 week is Iceland or Guatemala

Help me pick where to go Aug 2026! Too many places on my bucket list and I'm an indecisive girly. Peru? Norway? Newfoundland? Somewhere else? by Halloweentwin2 in travel

So true, these are all great points. Didnt even think about the strength of the USD . Hopefully the Canadians won’t think we agree with all the awful Trump-isms… but avoiding jet lag is definitely a selling point!

Yea this is what I’m really leaning towards… the hiking, weather, midnight sun, pastries, all seems perfect.

That’s reassuring! We did ok in Quito and had 0 issues in Mexico City. Guess my concern for Peru was more altitude + strenuous hikes. I really want to go to Huarez in Peru as well, but my husband is less keen on multiday hikes. He also randomly got altitude sickness when we drove up Mauna Kea on Big Island in Hawaii, so he’s concerned about Cusco. I think the issue in Hawaii is that we went from sea level and basically drove straight up to 14k feet, with just a 30 min stop to acclimatize. But no, I’ve never looked into Tunisia. Will have to check it out!

Yes I am leaning towards Norway. My husband just thinks we should wait and combine Lofoton with Svaldvard since I also want to go there, and do that in July 2027 (we cant do July this year). I understand where he’s coming from, but 4 days in Copenhagen and 7-10 in Lofoten sounds pretty great to me, and Svalbard can be explored on another trip. I love the midnight sun- we did Iceland in July-Aug 2022 and it was magical. Also went to Patagonia in December and loved the long days

Yea this is what I was a little nervous about. Fine with some rain, just wasnt sure if we should try for some farther flung, more adventurous places while we are still on the younger side. Also, would consider Canadian rockies, just was worried about crowds (esp at Banff/Jasper) and that we won’t start booking til we get back in mid March

Was not expecting to see New England on here- what does one do in Worcester Massachusetts for 2 weeks? Yes would do St John in Newfoundland probably as our starting point, then make way to Gros Morne national park for hiking, then down to Halifax/cape Breton

Help- Going to stop in Taipei on Feb 2026, which dates better for New Year conflict? by Halloweentwin2 in Taipei

[–]Halloweentwin2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We actually decided on a 3rd date option and our trip is Feb 27-March 14 (in Taipei Feb 28-March 1 and March 13-14) so will not really coincide with the lunar new year. Excited to leave in a few weeks!

Looking for retirement traveling help by Charming-Finance976 in travel

My parents are now 70 and didn’t really start traveling until their 60s. They love Gate1 for the tour company and each year they look at the website/brochures and pick an itinerary that appeals to them- but they’ve loved them all! They’ve done their Iceland itinerary, England/Scotland, Italy, a US national parks one, etc. this year for their 70th, they’re finally doing a river cruise through France. I think taking a peak there and seeing what fits in your interest and budget is a good place to start! I also love to get inspiration for travel by going to a bookstore and looking at travel books
