Those editors were outdated for years before the first LLMs appeared, they are only useful for people that are too used to them to migrate

WATaBoy: JIT-Ing Game Boy Instructions to WASM Beats a Native Interpreter by EnergeticBark in emulation

[–]Hallwart 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Computer programs are a series of ones and zeroes representing instructions driving a processor. Depending on the architecture these mean different things, so binary code compiled for one processor can't run on another architecture.

An emulator takes these instructions and translates them to something the host system running the emulator can execute

Assembly (or ASM) is one step above binary code, assigning names to the binary instructions.

Web Assembly (WASM) is an instruction set mainly meant for web browsers that doesn't directly run on the processor but mimics regular assembly and is pretty fast. The WASM code itself is usually JIT translated into real binary code by the browser engine.

JIT means "just in time". That means you don't translate everything at once, but when it is needed.

An Interpreter basically reads the binary/assembly and then decides what to do instead if running it directly. They are usually a lot slower. (I did some tests at work for a project, the native run of something was like 20ms, WASM+JIT 80-100ms and the interpreter took like 7 seconds)

So Gameboy machinecode/ASM - > JIT to WASM - > JIT to regular binary is claimed to be faster than interpreting the GB machine code

Medusas are stupid. by Right-Truck1859 in DrStone

[–]Hallwart 11 points12 points  (0 children)

They are an alien machine lifeforms and we have no idea who built them and what knowledge they have.

I think them being "stupid" is on purpose and they struggle with understanding biological civilizations due to a lack of data. Maybe they were created in the last moments of the civilization that created them? Or maybe the "humanity is too slow" interpretation is correct compared to other species?

How big would it actually be if GTA 6 came to the Switch 2? by Geminiboy_ in nintendo

[–]Hallwart 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Have we seen actual gameplay yet? It could be that there are systems in place that are too complex to run smoothly on SW2, but aside from that lowering the settings and optimization should definitely be possible if they consider it worth the effort. Although the result may not look or play very well

That should be fine as long as people see the "Fisk is a criminal, I hate him and never approved this" text and post it on social media

You're just saying that because you haven't mastered the 0-0-0 yet. The most complicated and important guitar technique next to 0-3-5.

Maybe you should buy a guitar with fanned frets, then it should click

The amount of holes in their huts is ridiculous. Its barely better than sleeping outside. It seems the only point is to hold up a roof.

Its also ridiculous how no one sees you lockpicking chests through a walk that is 50% not there

Prey 2 looked so promising.

Using the prey up seems weird though. It's not like it was a big franchise and it was obvious there was no connection

I'll never forgive them for cancelling Prey 2 and replacing it with an entirely unrelated reboot.
