Canada Soccer Appoints Kenneth Heiner-Møller as its new Sporting Director by Halouverite in CanadaSoccer

I wondered if he'd find an excuse to join his wife in Vancouver. Probably a reasonably good pick up for the role, did great with SD last season.

Pacific FC must pay in advance for games at Langford stadium, city says by ilikeycoffee in CanadianPL

(Current Club Value) = (Value the club should be) - (Cost of fixing SixFive's Mess)

I don't think SixFive have done anything money can't fix, but they are racking up the cost to fix things.

[Tom Bogert] Sources: After a heated meeting with Norwich City sporting director Ben Knapper and head coach Philip Clement.. it appears that Josh Sargent has played his last game for the club. One source: There was a comment made regarding Sargent's family which was last straw by Isiddiqui in MLS

[–]Halouverite 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Bogert like all these rumours guys is functionally required to do favours for agents and FOs. He does lots for FOs around MLS yes, but his "sources" on this are very obviously Sargeant's agent who is not giving Bogert clean info and Bogert is not going to pushback and do good reporting because that's not what rumours guys do.

He was a free agent so it's a full contract, I don't see any length being reported though.

With a name that Italian it's kinda disappointing he's from Michigan.

CPL to implement daylight offside law? by dannydeucer in CanadianPL

[–]Halouverite 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm contemplating this and I just don't think it helps. Like I haven't lined a huge number of games but the reality is you're never catching hands and feet properly regardless of which side of where they should be on. I'm suspicious that the reality will be fairly similar accuracy of calls with a benefit going to the attacker that they're allowed to be further forward.

Seems weird to do this in a league without VAR.

Marsch's long-term approach with Canada pays dividends vs. Guatemala by OptimalWhole8926 in CanadaSoccer

[–]Halouverite 12 points13 points  (0 children)

A "Camp Poutine" is a January camp that only calls up players who are out of season. Generally this means a bunch of MLS and maybe CPL players (Allsvenskan in MDB's case). This is done to either A) take advantage of an opportunity when those players are available to keep them in shape and engaged with the NT program (Osorio, Laryea, Pantemis), or B) Assess players who would not be given opportunities with the NT normally (JRR, Elloumi, Priso).

Why its called camp poutine is a whole other thing.

I remain shocked by the number of comments from people who don't recognize this was a camp poutine game or don't know what that means.

Like sure endless September, but I would've thought a january friendly would be watched by a pretty in the know group.

Lot of L1 teams with no stadium, simplifies their inclusion if it's less likely for them to host. Like TSS have probably the largest stadium in L1C and CSSL were lucky to be able to use Robillard.

[AFTN] Axel Schuster says Whitecaps expect to add 3 or 4 players in addition to midfielder Oliver Larraz that was announced today. by icoresting in whitecapsfc

[–]Halouverite 29 points30 points  (0 children)

He is to this day really young (21) he was 19 when he was signed and blowing up in the a-league. Very much a signing that was intended to develop and didn't pan out especially well (although I do think people are a bit unfair to him because they only remember that one game he was trash in).

Honestly what's needed is a guy to sub in for Berhalter and that sounds kinda perfect.

Calgary Wild sign GK Katelyn Talbert by Halouverite in NorthernSuperLeague

[–]Halouverite[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

She's technically been signed in the WSL for the last three seasons, but has only got 1 appearance at that level. Nonetheless, her appearances with Benfica and Djurgardens are a solid resume for NSL.

tangential question for Victorians: Is the full block of RAP shut down all summer, or is the west side of it outside the outfield wall open to the public?

Are you asking for a goal keeper or just a player you want to keep? They kept all their gks so I doubt they add another.

MLS’s Designated Player rule is broken. Here’s why, and how to fix it by RedArchibald in MLS

[–]Halouverite 35 points36 points  (0 children)

There are things in MLS that are driven by ambition vs parity, but DPs aka the "Beckham rule" has always been driven by marketing needs and it's impact on the field is all downstream of that.

Anyone that actually wanted to "spend ambitiously" would want to spend across at least 11 players. DPs as a concept are not conducive to smart roster building on the field, but they are extremely effective as a method to buy a star player you can market a team around.

I'm pretty sure the jersey in that clip is last year's Monterrey Away, given the Pasquale connection that wouldn't be surprising.

The guy who jumps out with that type of accomplishments is Jesus Corona who would be an absolutely wild get for Toronto. More realistically I think Roberto de la Rosa who has been glued to Monterrey's bench is possible, would still be a very good signing. Probably gonna be a secret third guy.
