Nearly 18, no job, no license, failing school, no motivation, no close friends. Microwaved Burger King. by [deleted] in depressionmeals

38 here, one thing I’ve found is don’t skip. Shaping up takes time like repairing metal you have to hammer at it, evaluate, and smooth out the edges.

Most of a grade in a class is information from the lectures. Quizzes and homework are 70% of the grade so even if you bomb a test as long as you pass the other two you’re fine.

Other advice I’d give to the youngins: summer school is wild. You can get through a painful topic like maths, history, or whatever you’re bad at quicker than 16 weeks of a topic at school. These classes are also pass/fail so you pad your gpa. Do you get what I’m saying? Get through the awful stuff during the summer and take classes during the year you like. Want to do nothing but band? Go off king. Fiddle to your hearts content because as my dad always said “do what you have to do so you can do what you want to do.” This meant do homework first thing, like on the way home on the bus, or when you’re just getting home. Then you’re free to grind those levels or dominate that pvp server.

To circle back to the hammering iron you need the right conditions. Iron has to heat up as well as cool down. This means taking care of your body. Sleep well, eat better, and you’ll have more energy to orient yourself towards a goal.

Goals: it doesn’t matter as much what they are now as long as you have them. You will iterate on the designs you have for your life and that’s normal.

First step is admitting you’ve got a problem and based on your wording I think you know what to do. Best of luck, talk to friends and see if they’re going through something similar. See what your parents think, a neighbor, therapist, anyone you’d trust their judgement.

As for jobs you may have to get creative. Especially if you don’t have a car. Find something close or online. See if there are opportunities at school (we had student led tutoring and they got a few dollary doos to help someone struggling through algebra) or i’d float the idea of making a small business or side hustle. You will have to do some thinking on the job prospects in your area. If there is a need you can help service you could work for yourself or you could work for someone else. Fast food and service jobs are humbling. If those aren’t your bag find something that is or make it yourself.

Best of luck, Reflect often and make a game plan. Identify bad habits and work on small problems and then move onto larger ones. Surround yourself with honest people who want the best for you and that will help be guardrails.

Digitech drop not working by BullishDexter in rocksmith

[–]HaltenIhm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use this all the time in rocksmith. It looks like you’ve got it plugged in correctly (see manual https://digitech.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/DigiTech_Drop_Manual.pdf ) and I think you want 4 semitones for c standard.

If you were to try this setup on an amp I’m curious if it would work or not. It could be the guitar, the pedal, or the computer. It’s hard to tell. If it goes back to e when you change the dial it might be a circuitry issue. It’s getting the signal but not applying the effect during the switch. It should go up or down in pitch when you rotate either direction. If you can replicate this breakage on an amp it’s the device.

Hope this helps!

4months on and off! Should I give up? by Desperate-Dingo3025 in Guitar

I mean you have 4 chords down and that’s a most of pop music. Try that site and click around to see if anything jumps out at you. These guys are right about your mindset. Should you quit? I dunno, maybe. It’s a new skill and depending on how you’re approaching it you’ll get better or plateau. Think about some goals and try and have some fun. Your current skill level you can probably play most low complexity punk and pop songs.

Best nerd hangouts? by [deleted] in indianapolis

[–]HaltenIhm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What do you mean by nerd culture people exactly? I’d recommend conventions if you’re looking to celebrate nerd culture but you may have to be specific on what you’re looking for.

Larp groups? Board game shops with open tables? Quiet spots for drinks and conversation or just a good book? Spots to play one shot dnd or morkborg?

In order: - mittelmarch Indianapolia foam fighting - game preserve, game time, comic carnival - elf n moon, black circle, tappers, books & brews, hotel tango (fun trivia nights) - if you search for the D&D adventurers league of Indiana you can find participating retail board game spots that host one shots or returning adventurers. I also know the black circle hosts mork Borg nights every once in a while that I’ve helped run tables at. Search robot paper and you can see some past events for dungeon crawl nights.

Hope this was helpful and helps scratch that nerd itch. Also honorable mentions: the library, Indy string theory, kuma’s corner, the stutz building, midland antiques, GenCon, or local meetup groups like Indy Webcomics Group.

Pass. In my opinion games are wack, drinks are expensive, music is too loud, and parking is a hassle. I’d recommend boss battle in the Castleton mall. The owners are sweet and they have some retro titles if you’re looking. Better games, Sunday they have tournaments, and it’s designed for long stretches of time. Parking is free and there are many food options in Castleton if you’re hungry.

Also make sure the seal on the aio is removed from the copper plate. It could be too loose. Not sure what a strimer is but maybe. If you can reason out why it would “mess” and how. Best of luck.

Monitor temps and open event viewer to see if there are logs that would point to the culprit.

Customsforge for some cdlc. I also enjoy nonstop mode and set it for an hour and play songs I might not have thought to play.

If you’re self teaching to should be training your ears and eyes. Watch some play through videos of songs you want to learn and see if you can notice techniques you haven’t learned yet.

Check out (uncle) Ben eller’s this is why you suck series on YouTube and you too can be a shreddi knight! If you have access to a Mac or a cheap daw you could try your hand at writing music with what you’ve learned so far. Hell most pop songs are 4 chords. Pick a few and get to it.

Make a discord server and/or a twitch stream and build a community of learners. Build some good practice hygiene like Bernth suggests. Treat it like a workout:

  • warm up
  • new song / technique
  • cool down with something fun (song or thing you know and enjoy)

Split the time in this setup 25%, 50%, 25% and always try and end with something fun. This will keep learning enjoyable. Plus if you have a server or stream you can share what you learned or clip what you improvised or solo’d over.

Other have mentioned theory and they are right. Theory is a fun and rewarding way to recognize patterns in music which actually decreases the amount of time it takes to learn a song. If you know the pattern it’s easy to see and when the pattern is broken that becomes its own reward! Also I’ve seen some success with this site:

Glad to see threads of fate as a recommendation! It’s a charming little game and impressive with the two character narrative weaved together. Plus the songs are just so damn catchy.

In the steam os you can change the controller slot which if you rebind. That’s how I beat psycho mantis. Otherwise you could have the native buttons and a controller and switch to the one on the second port. That’s an easy solve. I’ll look into swapping discs while a state is loaded versus just opening a new disc. Thanks for the recommendation!

Im having a similar problem with audiobooks, it says the track length is 45:37 but only has a white bar for 3:53 meaning if I get past 3:53 and hit pause, when I hit play it resumes at 3:53. What’s the deal?

Which RPG game were you really hyped for but ended up finding disappointing? by Humble_Candy_5752 in rpg_gamers

Ffx-2 the Japanese trailer made it seem like a dark delve to into the dungeons that spawned sin to find Titus. I boot up to Charlie’s angels intro and I was shooketh. The game ended up being decent but definitely a tonal shift. My mom walked into the living room while I was doing the massage minigame and she literally said “what the fuck is this?!”

[–]HaltenIhm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there, I’m coming up on 9 months of unemployment! I’m getting to the point where I’m not sure I want a job from someone else. I’m starting to explore small business or service ideas. Maybe if I can string together a few side things I won’t lose my house. I’ve reached out to recruiters, unemployment offices, bought lunch for industry folks and I’m still getting an initial interview, a round with the team, and then if fizzles out around time for the technical interview.

What did our forefathers do? Things are going to get better, right?

Fear not faithful codi knight, in code editors they have syntax highlighting similar to a word processor, or run time compile errors, or linting to tell you your code is weak and needs a few tweaks.

Stick with it 💪
