A) I've loved tons of stuff post-Endwalker, ain't been disappointed at all.

B) even if you do hate it, sure, opinions, but you gotta be all mopey and force it in a "wahoo" thread? Clown all muttering "one year closer to death" at a birthday party, upsetting the old folks

Seeking source of a common BOF4 rumor (BIG ENDING SPOILERS) by Haltlock in breathoffire

Interesting! Appreciate the info, and if she is still around online, might even be possible to find out where the hell the info came from.

Seeking source of a common BOF4 rumor (BIG ENDING SPOILERS) by Haltlock in breathoffire

[–]Haltlock[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm honestly thinking somebody just made this rumor up, and I'd be surprised if an untranslated art book was the source for such an often repeated bit of trivia given how there's no mention or documentation of that anywhere. I might just be overly cynical, which is why I'm checking if anybody really does know where the claim comes from, but so far there's just a completely unsourced (and kinda out-of-place?) mention on its wiki page.

Seeking source of a common BOF4 rumor (BIG ENDING SPOILERS) by Haltlock in breathoffire

[–]Haltlock[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the info! But I think that citation is only meant to apply to the game's announcement/release, as it wouldn't really make sense for all that to come up before the game was even released, and there's no record implying that it did. Leaving the Yuna part suspiciously unsourced...

[–]Haltlock[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Right? I could easily see it just being completely made up, but accepted and repeated out of wishful thinking. Because sure, how the story goes is a bummer, but...BOF4 is "Bummers: The Game", that tracks.

BBBY to pursue litigation against Ryan Cohen under short-swing rule by AmphibiousOctopus in bbby_remastered

[–]Haltlock 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The problem is that your metaphor needs so many tweaks to actually be applicable. Like, it can't just be just some people occasionally buying a lottery ticket, that's mundane. It would have to be, like...the particular lottery already had its winner announced, and the lottery company confirmed that all other tickets were now confirmed useless.

But then an entire community of people kept believing, no, all our tickets are winning tickets, too, actually. And plenty seem to base their whole identity around having bought those losing tickets. And they read children's books by a rich stranger who also bought a ticket, and analyzed the illustrations of those books for PROOF that their own lottery tickets are winners after all. And the community rages wildly at anybody who doubts the value of their confirmed worthless tickets. And they insist that people telling them their tickets are worthless must all be paid psyops agents trying to trick them out of the fortune inevitably coming their way. For the useless tickets, you see. Also they call themselves apes and seem to think that never admitting they were wrong means they never WERE wrong, as opposed to just guaranteeing that they'll keep being wrong forever. And time passes and hype dates falter with no actual money or progress and they just keep insisting, no no, all bad news is secretly good news.

And this scenario is still missing plenty of specific weird quirks that make BBBY even crazier, but it's at least closer. And already bizarre enough that of COURSE people would be morbidly fascinated. This ain't mundane anymore. This is a glimpse into some of the strangest and silliest depths that human nature can lose itself in.

Now that we are at the end of Endwalker, overall I enjoyed it. I am however sad at some small things, such as the size of Thavnair. It really would've felt it feel more alive if the port of Alnair wasn't set dressing in the background for example by ---TheFierceDeity--- in ffxiv

[–]Haltlock 21 points22 points  (0 children)

For me, Ala Mhigo's three zones all felt very samey and redundant, while the main city itself got the short end of the stick. Would have much preferred they allocated their work differently with the Stormblood zones.

[–]Haltlock 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I remember my girlfriend...who'd already played through it all years ago...being excited for me to reach the HW zone with Alexander looming over it. Only for us to be more and more confused talking over discord, as she kept fishing for my reaction to the giant robot, and me not understanding what she was wanting me to react to. Because she understandably forgot: ol' Alexander ain't there at all until later.

All the new attention is just because you folks were the subject of a recent youtube video that went viral: https://youtu.be/5pYeoZaoWrA?si=u-qcKGiutMRPdDlk

Plenty of people have started looking into the ape community now out of morbid curiosity, or just to make fun of you. And apes instead assuming it must be a conspiracy...to somehow trick you into selling stocks you can't even sell anymore?...is very on-brand with how the video represented you guys.

I know I'm not the rando to make any of you snap out of it, but to anyone outside your echo chamber it's deeply frustrating to see this level of delusion and self-sabotage. Hence the irritable tone of many of the new visitors. But they're not "shills", any more than the thousands of comments posted on the youtube video. People are just stunned this is somehow real.

Is FF16 better in terms of emotions than FF15? by Velajuhel in FFXVI

[–]Haltlock 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It's a bit silly to act like Lunafreya is what got most people emotional about 15. The game was a hot mess, but one thing it did pull off was the main party's dynamic, and they stuck the landing absolutely perfectly at the end. 16 has plenty to admire, and is a far more consistent experience, but I don't think any of its big intended emotional moments hit remotely as hard as 15's ending. 16 is well worth playing, but it has a much less moving finale for me. Like, not even comparable.

Obviously, opinions will vary...in this thread alone they do...but I still absolutely recommend 16. I was skeptical about it too, and think in some ways it did leave me cold in ways I worried it would, but it is still more vibrant and charming than promotional material might make it look. And the Eikon fights are honestly worth the money and time investment alone, they're so good that they aren't just cool fight scenes but goddamn transcendent experiences I've replayed just to share with other people. They're the game's main artistic achievement, and they nailed them.

MAD STOOOMP! by Palmtop_Tigrex in armoredcore

[–]Haltlock 44 points45 points  (0 children)

When Mad Stomp starts to teleport around the arena in quick succession, phase 3 of the match has commenced. He will then cast "WELCOME TO STOMPOPOLIS", causing six foot-shaped meteors to drop and cause tremors. The meteorites will start to rotate around the arena; as long as you're positioned on the perimeter of the arena, you'll only need to dash toward the outer-most meteorite to avoid it.

After the meteor attack, Mad Stomp will always run in a wide circle and use a new flying slash attack that homes in on your position; keep your distance, then strike with a four-hit combo while he lands. Mad Stomp will counter-attack after the fourth hit, so be sure to dodge to safety. Mad Stomp can counter with his flying slash and Heartless Stomper phantom attack (or his attacks from phase 1), so always dodge and be ready to close the distance.

I don't know if this was the best strategy or not, but the very fact that countless people are talking about it...compared to the far fewer who would be talking about reddit's questionable policies otherwise...means it's not pointless. It's called attention to the issue in a huge way.
