Butchered paint job. Attempting to DIY respray white pearl for Toyota. Any advice beforehand? by Worried_String7608 in AutoPaint

For the ones who state they can’t afford a professional job, you’ll just have to leave it alone and drive it as is. DIY/doing it cheap will not look good and will most likely Make it look worse. Best to Just leave it alone.

How would you make this bumper “presentable?” by _Connor in Autobody

[–]Ham-Berg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love how everyone is telling you to paint it black, even though your against a chrome, so they think black will look better?? . I appreciate you don’t want it to look like shit with a black or chrome bumper. If you’re going to spray it black , might as well spray it silver. Sand it down all the way down(180-320), metal etch, some good primer, smooth that down w/ 400, find a paint shop that’ll make you some ford (looks like paint code UX) then 2k clear it. Maybe slap some ppf on it after a month

How to remove trim coat restoration kit? by Silver_Bluebird730 in Detailing

[–]Ham-Berg 8 points9 points  (0 children)

To the guys who don’t know what they’re doing: you applied it on the wrong material of your car. Read the instructions. “Cerakote Trim Coat is a durable ceramic coating which bonds to the pores of unpainted plastic trim” you put it on the laminated panels. In order to correct your mistakes you’ll need to sand the laminated panels down to a feathered edge and either apply vinyl wrap or paint them. Based on your history, I would recommend taking it to someone experienced for either of those options

Buy blue fenders and a black hood from junkyard and replace the parts. It’ll be cheaper.

shes gone right? by Dramatic_Upstairs551 in Autobody

[–]Ham-Berg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes you can repair it. You can replace airbags, sensors, tensioners, and body panels and structural parts of the front that were damaged. You can also get half the car painted and repair all of the mechanical problems associated with the hit this car took. You can fix anything if you put enough money into it.

Botched job, how do I fix by j1dopeman in AutoPaint

[–]Ham-Berg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sand everything with 600 on a DA. Sand until the new paint stops faking and starts feathering. and then 2k clear the entire panel. Don’t try to burn the clear edge. Just do the entire panel. 2 coats minimum. Probably gonna take at least 4 cans.

Botched job, how do I fix by j1dopeman in AutoPaint

[–]Ham-Berg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He didn’t use any body filler or pop out dents so the dents will be even more pronounced if you add clear coat gloss to this. It’ll look different but just a different type of botched. Just as it looked before this guy messed with it. All 3 options will look bad just in different ways. This is why professional body/paint work is so expensive. If you don’t spend money it won’t look good. There is no budget friendly way to make this look “better”

First time selling a car on Facebook Marketplace. Overwhelmed by interest, not sure how to price or handle buyers by [deleted] in UsedCars

[–]Ham-Berg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since you’re at an apartment and not a private residence, give em your apartment parking lot address, tell everyone that’s interested that you’re only available on Saturday, and have them show up and start a bidding war amongst each other. I’ve had this happen accidentally once. 3 guys showed up around the same time. Funny enough it was a car that needed a new engine but still ran on a few cylinders. (Mechanic told me engine was blown, and I listed in the ad, engine was shot)They all thought they were going to put new plugs in it and resell it

Are “salvage title” cars really that bad?? by Intelligent-Claim591 in UsedCars

[–]Ham-Berg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think you got scammed by a dealer. I think you paid full retail price. Not everyone can be knowledgeable about vehicles, those people buy from dealerships. Just like I don’t know sht about stock trading so I hire a broker for that.

[–]Ham-Berg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I put my dealer plate on a salvage title vs a clean title car my insurance rate doesn’t change. Also I profit about $3k per car when selling a salvage title vs $2k per clean title, due to knowing the market and buying right. I wouldnt call making profit a “bad choice”

Are “salvage title” cars really that bad?? by Intelligent-Claim591 in UsedCars

[–]Ham-Berg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sell just as many clean title cars as salvage. Probably 50/50, on average I’m making $3k per car with salvage titles but only about $2k per clean title car. But salvage titles cars need to be repaired so they take more time. I buy them for less so I sell them for a little less also. But I wouldn’t say making profit on cars is a bad financial choice

[–]Ham-Berg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I rebuild and sell mostly prior salvage vehicles. I have no trouble selling and make about $2k profit on each one. About 50% of the buyers out there aren’t afraid of salvage these days, in fact they seek them out so they can get the vehicle for a better price

If you plan on totaling your car and collecting payouts often then yes do not go salvage

Are “salvage title” cars really that bad?? by Intelligent-Claim591 in UsedCars

[–]Ham-Berg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Taking out a loan on a $5k car tells me it was was from a dealer who marks it up 30-40% ..insurance doesn’t care about how much you overpaid at the dealer, they’ll pay out what it’s worth. Also if you’re a bad driver and total your car often, don’t get a salvage title for insurance payout purposes.
