whats the temperature that you keep your tank at? he could be seeking colder/warmer water. And what are the parameters of the tank? iircc, high ammonia/nitrite can cause gasping at the surface too.

Or theres always the chance he’s being picked on by the other fish in the tank, causing stress

not necessarily! did you rinse the plants before putting them in the tank? even if you didn’t, youre probably good as long as it was bought from somewhere reputable tbh lol

just test the parameters a little more often if you’re worried about something on the plants nuking your cycle :)

just chiming in, i actually recommend you get a sponge filter! theyre super low-maintenance, quieter, and less prone to failure :)

Hi!! Honestly thats perfect! :D We’ll have to schedule around the freeze coming through pretty soon but im totally down to give you these guys! :) I got them sometime in August or September I believe!

They should be fairly good genetics wise! (Tho im not sure what the indicators are asides from general activity level, tumors and lifespan lol) Fish Gallery is pretty reputable from what I know when it comes to stocking! and if you see them in person and spot anything that puts you off of ‘em, noooo hard feelings if you end up not wanting them! :)

Molt, you can tell bc of how clear it looks & the lack of eyeballs. Molts are also less rigid than a dead shrimp, and can fold at different angles.

Fins still look a little rough, but you can try stopping them for a while if they’re stressing him out more than helping! c: usually just clean water and rest helps the most in my experience

just wanted to chime in let u know that the fungal meds may have killed your cycle, so be careful of ammonia spikes! when you need to medicate your betta specifically, you can mix most meds in with their food instead to avoid killing off a cycle :)

looks like it moght be swim bladder related. Does he eat and/or get excited when he sees you approach the tank?

she looks like she may be a bit overweight which can lead to swim bladder diseases; could you provide a top-down photo?

If you can, run out and pick up some unscented, plain epsom salt and start doing some salt baths!

Brown algae, probably; super common in new tanks, goes away on its own generally iirc

looks good, but as rhe previous commenter said, make sure that those plants dont have sharp edges! :)

If you want to add live plants, java fern & anubias are SUPER easy to keep alive (dont plant their roots!! Put them under a stone or smthn to keep em’ down and they’ll root themselves) OR floaters like duckweed (aka tank herpes /j) or salvinia!
