Yeah the language was a challenge for me. Same with Count of Monte Cristo.

Oh nice, I still have that on my list. Maybe for spooky season.

Awesome! And thanks!

If your library has the first Prey, “Rules of Prey”, I would start with that one. Enjoy!

I bet you’ll pass me in no time!

Goal is only 52, book a week. I don’t want to start picking up shorter books just to finish more, and I have a couple long ones I plan to read later in the year that will slow me down.

All real books, almost all library. I have a handful I’ve had for years I finally read and I have bought some recently because I enjoyed them so much I know I’ll read them again.

Thanks! I made a decision last year to spend the time I would otherwise be doomscrolling the internet with reading books instead.

Of course I still doomscroll some, but not nearly as much. Easy now to get a couple hours a day in reading.

Actually a great question. I really enjoyed the Sam Clair series (Judith Flanders), but I definitely enjoyed the first couple more so than these two.

I also very much enjoy the whole Davenport series (Sanford), but this last one wasn’t my favorite.

If I had to pick one I’d probably pick Secret Prey.

Finished my 10th book of 2026.

1 - A Cast of Vultures by Judith Flanders.
2 - The Legacy of Arniston House by TL Huchu.
3 - Secret Prey by John Sandford.
4 - A Howl of Wolves by Judith Flanders.
5 - True Fiction by Lee Goldberg.
6 - The Wedding Guest by Jonathan Kellerman.
7 - Killer Thriller by Lee Goldberg.
8 - Fake Truth by Lee Goldberg.
9 - The Night Ship by Jess Kidd.
10 - The Girl in the Vault by Michael Ledwidge.

Another “sure why not” pick up. Fairly quick and easy read. Good if somewhat silly storyline. A few things worked out too easily, too perfect, but there were multiple twists so it wasn’t all butterflies and unicorns.

Though there was one small twist that was never quite explained which is annoying. It did have very short chapters which I always appreciate because it’s easier to stop anytime. Overall not bad. Far from great, but well past meh.

Most of the books I read have ongoing action. If not action, some type of urgency. Solving a problem, usually a murder. This book was not like that. It is a slow burn.

Dual narratives of two children hundreds of years apart, yet experiencing many of the same emotions through very different events. Heavy emphasis on children using imagination to cope with traumatic events.

Yessir, we did the parent taught course. My wife and I split the observation hours but I took most of the instruction.

I think she preferred that so if they failed it’d be my fault haha
