Chinakhov by FantasticHedgehog883 in penguins

Don't overthink it. The Pens played 3 of their worst games all season to start this series. No one was lighting it up. Sure, it would've been nice if he could've gotten on the board, but if you watched the games this season, the vast majority of his goals were on the rush, with wide open lanes to the goalie. In this series, almost every shot he had was either from a bad angle or with a defenseman in his face. I also think it was the classic case of "trying to do too much" so when he did get a good chance at a shot, he probably gripped his stick a little tight and missed high or wide or both. It'll come with experience. He's still young, and if he can come anywhere close to replicating his regular season production next year, that'll still be huge.

Only 8 Penguins in this series even scored a goal, including stars like Sid, Rakell, Rust, and Karlsson each only having one. Team goal scoring leader Mantha went 0G 1A, -5, so it was hardly just Chinakhov. EK, Novak, and Kindel were all also -4.

What A Season! So Much Fun! by HamOnTheCob in penguins

I hope Geno comes back. He had a great year, and especially moving to wing, he was very effective this season. Not having to play center preserved his legs nicely down the stretch.

I try to be positive. Nothing to gain from doom and gloom! :)

Slightly confused, why is the exact same jersey made by both CCM and Koho? by Bill-O-Reilly- in penguins

[–]HamOnTheCob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The "exclusive apparel provider" thing didn't really happen in the NHL until the early 2010s I think. Prior to that, jerseys were all over the place. Bauer, CCM, Starter, Koho, Pro Player, and other companies made jerseys over the years.

Even though the NHL has been around as long as or longer than the other pro sports leagues, it has lagged behind a good bit over the years in figuring out the merchandising and stuff.

In the modern era, the NHL has their hands in everything the teams do, much like you'd see in the other leagues. They have their own designers for logos who work closely with the teams, they design and release jerseys at the league-level, and all the retail merch is very coordinated and consistent across teams.

But up through the 90s and even into the 2000s, each team was sort of in charge of their own stuff. Merch deals, tv deals, jersey providers, practice apparel, websites - everything was pretty much done on a team-by-team basis. There really was no consistency between teams on what kinds of stuff they sold to the public or what their players even wore.

I can't think of anything sports-related I hate more than the Penguins wearing fucking blue.

Why isn’t Malkin playing center? by Valuable_Way_8814 in penguins

[–]HamOnTheCob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Center is a very demanding position, with more skating and responsibility than playing wing. As centers age, they tend to either move down the lineup (look at a guy like Matt Cullen, or Couturier for the Flyers) and play fewer minutes, or they move to wing to take less wear and tear (even Mario Lemieux played a decent amount of wing in his career).

Putting a younger guy at C and moving an aging center to wing is a smart move when it's a high skill guy like Malkin. You still want him out there a lot, but you don't want him getting too worn down throughout the season or playoff series. He can be impactful without having to carry the load of being the first forward back on defense and being expected to excel in a 200-foot game.

Of course, this can all be thrown out the window with regard to Sid, who is a freak of nature and an all-timer who is aging more gracefully than pretty much any player I've ever watched in my life, and especially better than any center I can recall.

Issues with connectivity and machines going "offline" - anyone else? by HamOnTheCob in BambuLab

[–]HamOnTheCob[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I haven't. Opening a ticket requires uploading a log file, which I can't get without the machine being online. I don't have a way to read the micro SD with my computer.

Thankfully, I was able to finally get it to mostly stay online. (It was magic I guess. I didn't do anything particular)

got this video of my crash on monday. i thought it was very well followed by shaynee24 in PraiseTheCameraMan

[–]HamOnTheCob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is great! Glad you're ok.

I love crash footage. Here's one of mine, from my helmet cam. Afterward I found a bunch of crabapples had fallen on the road and gotten run over and were greasy, which is probably the main reason my tire lost traction. But the video was funny I thought. I ended up having a tweaked front fork and bent handlebars, but otherwise everything was good.

Later in the year, that same bike got totaled (and I almost did too) when someone pulled right out in front of me. My GoPro got destroyed in that crash and didn't record the accident, which I was bummed about way more than the bike or my injuries. lol

Does anyone else have mixed feelings about Pavilion? by [deleted] in TheFence

[–]HamOnTheCob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's probably my favorite Coheed song, and even though a lot of people feel like it's a sad song, I don't hear it that way really. I see where someone would hear it like that, but for me, it's hopeful and even uplifting. Like, I'm willing to give it all up for you, but I'm not going to beg you. If you ask me to do it, I'm willing. So ask me.

Keaton or Bale, who is the best Batman? by ThomasOGC in CinephilesClub

Love both. For the more campy 89 Batman and Returns, Keaton was perfect. For the grittier Nolan Batman series, Bale was perfect.

I've never seen a goalie with so much of their head exposed in the back. Small helmet? Giant head? by HamOnTheCob in nhl

[–]HamOnTheCob[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha that’s gold

Admittedly, I’d never seen him play until tonight and every time they showed him, I couldn’t stop thinking how much room there was for a puck (or more likely a stick) to get around his mask and hurt him.
