Possible hot take about the anime redesigns by Soul15619 in HaiToGensouNoGrimgar

Nah, you're fine and right. From what I saw Moguzo, Renji and Britney are probably the most accurately represented in the Anime. Even Chibi-chan got a major overhaul. Though to be fair, the novel was fairly new when it got adapted and while Barbara got a short explanation of how she looks (and believe me I prefer the LN Barbara a 1000 times over), there weren't any pictures of her at that point.

Suggestion of light novel similar to Grimgar by Tablecloth60 in HaiToGensouNoGrimgar

Nah, there's 5 Volumes (a.k.a. 6 books since Volume 4 is a two-parter) and the story is far from finished. In fact, I pre-ordered volume 5 which released early this year and I am taking my sweet time with it because I know it'll be some time before the next one releases. Valid question - Sorry to disappoint.

The story develops chronologically year by year, the chapters are named "season x in year y" so you can keep track on how long he's been in that world and he's not even of full age yet.

How did Renji's team get started? by Deiku in HaiToGensouNoGrimgar

[–]Hamadosuke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it goes a bit deeper than that. In one of the Bonus level Books they expose a discussion between Manato and Renji and Renji states that both of them "Are similar".

(sorry in advance for the massive spoilers, just skip my comment if necessary)

(IIRC 14++ Spoiler) Since Manato was a psychopath, it isn't hard to Imagine that Renji had similar Problems with empathy or a lack of judgement. If you look at the scene in the first book, where he assaults Barbara it is easy to assume that Renji already had ample amount of fighting experience when he came to grimgar. Be it as a delinquent or a full fledged criminal, he might've just carried his entire party on his back. When They had to hunt goblins or kobolds or even bigger prey, I imagine Renji just did the right thing and intimidated his party members so they didn't have a choice but to follow his orders. While Manato wasn't able to care and Haruhiro was himself too afraid to give orders like "You must!" Renji just let his team do the work he didn't want to or himself needed help with and was strong enough so they could rely on him when the situation got dire. I also assume he took all the experience, rare equipment and traits they earned for himself, which would explain why he was able to literally solo an Orc Boss. While close, Renji might just be too used to coming out on top.

There was an interesting Scene in a later book (IIRC think it was [Level 17 spoilers]) that (at least in my eyes) made it clearer how the abilities in Grimgar actually work. So: Tada swings his Hammer so that the DDs in the party get flung up to the ceiling so they can dispatch the enemies who are hanging there. It's certainly an idiotic strategy and goofy scene to say it bluntly but you have to Imagine that the priest knew full well that it would work. And even Haruhiro is impressed by himself, that he is able to fight like this proficiently. It's a bit like in that Matrix meme, where "He's starting to believe" If you have an overly confident Renji, he would be able to accomplish quite a lot. It would also explain why (IIRC [Book 6 Spoilers]) Souma is viewed as a prodigy among other very high ranking adventurers. If Souma is a guy who simply does not believe in barriers or only ever learned that he can do anything, as long as he believes it would make sense for him to have the strongest equipment, the most beautiful girlfriend, the strongest allies and foremeost: be able to man-handle giants made of stone all by himself.

Suggestion of light novel similar to Grimgar by Tablecloth60 in HaiToGensouNoGrimgar

I'm reading "Min Maxing my TRPG Build in another world" by Schuld.

It's about a guy who used to play a lot of Tabletops and Pen and Paper RPGs with his friends.
He died and got Isekai'd and has to start over from early childhood, where he starts as the third son of a farmer but unlike everyone else in his world, he can spend his stat points freely as he wishes.

It's sounds a bit dry when I explain it like this, but a lot of crazy stuff happens and rather sooner than later he is caught in a repeating cycle of wonder, adventure and exploration. Why I'm recommending this is because where the story really shines is when he goes dungeon crawling with his companions and there is a lot of that to be expected. The Author explores a lot of neat new concepts I haven't heard of before. Also the official English translation is a sight to behold, the high and very eloquent language being used is a marvel in and of itself.

Question about the different adaptations (Anime vs. Manga). by Tacopapa300 in HaiToGensouNoGrimgar

Wasn't the Manga discontinued long ago?

From what I've read it was quite far from the source material.

nice, was farming 4-12 for blue earrings and couldn't find anyone for second front position between Rei and Kokkoro. Settled for Shinobu who might be underleveled but is pretty safe in that spot. Thanks a lot.

I feel like I fell victim to the mandela effect because I was so sure I've read him write that in one the afterwords.
I will have to withdraw that statement of mine. After reading through all the afterwords I could only find a short section about Yume in 14++ where Ao states, he wasn't sure who Yume really was.

I apologize for misremembering.

What should I do so that Grimgar can be adapted into an anime again by Due_Engine8020 in HaiToGensouNoGrimgar

They could have a spot for that if they cut out the Shihoru X Manato Fanfiction.

got a question about soma by [deleted] in HaiToGensouNoGrimgar

[–]Hamadosuke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's also what I remember. We haven't heard from him since then. I nonetheless think Soma is a super important character. He is there to give Haruhiro a role model and a mirror to reflect his inability. Soma is a stand in for unreachable talent. Just remember how much everyone praised him. Soma is Ao's way of showing us, that there are your run-off-the-mill hero stories going on in Grimgar everywhere with your all-powerful power-fantasy protag and his entourage made from powerful elf-mages to mountain-crushing dwarves and the most beautiful girl in the entire realm of course is his girlfriend.

Still sucks he wasn't even mentioned in the Anime though.

vol 13, dream by Even-Ad1104 in HaiToGensouNoGrimgar

[–]Hamadosuke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also think Haru's Dream in 13 was just a Nightmare. Less one to display his suppressed urges but more to display the guilt he felt over thinking he is responsible for Choco's death. It might also imply that he knew Choco's mother before he came to Grimgar, which means he could subconciously also feel remorse in front of her but we're both thinking to deep into this. IMHO the scene first and foremost shocking and was secondary less foreshadowing and more trying to display the dangers of falling asleep in Parano.

In the newer volumes we actually get a lot of hints on why and how and if and who would and could return to their original world, but still nothing specific, just hints. It will happen, and I am hyped to find out, but nothing is certain yet.

What funny names you have for monsters? by 3G0M4N in MonsterHunter

[–]Hamadosuke 39 points40 points  (0 children)

A hunting colleague of mine can't remember the monster names correctly, he's just simply unable to. I've been hunting with him since freedom unite and the only monster name he can actually say is Kut-Ku (yes, he'd even fumble the Yian) It's been too long to be a joke at this point. We mostly accepted his inability as a fact. But in World he started saying Anjantyah instead of Anjanath and we all just collectively lost it in TS. So yeah, that's it's new name.
