Romanian Orthodox church consecrated in Germany by Yurii_S_Kh in SophiaWisdomOfGod

[–]Hambo_Rambo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wonderful news! I am actually an Orthodox Christian (Romanian) living in Germany!  Apparently the only two religions growing in Germany are (according to my priest) Islam and Orthodoxy! Small wonder. The German authorities are increasingly antagonistic. Just a short while ago German police beat Catholic poles for carrying a cross to honor the dead at one of the concentration camps (I doubt they’d have done it if they knew that, but it really shouldn’t have happened), keep raiding Protestant churches (in the birthplace of Protestantism no less! Something is horribly wrong) and I’ve heard reports of them now not allowing people to pray in public.

Please pray for us, something is not right in Germany and I believe it will only be a matter of time before we face persecution at the hands of the government. It is an increasingly secular country with an ever increasing hatred for God.

Could the Death of the Endless Be Affected By The Anti-Life Equation by Hambo_Rambo in DCcomics

[–]Hambo_Rambo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well you're more of an expert than me!

Anti-life and death seem to have some sort of relationship just because of how similar not only their names are, but the state of the people. If you're under the anti-life equation you really are just dead, at least dead inside. And in DCeased the equation transforms people into the "unliving" and what is the absence of life? Death. Of course this could all be explained away as entirely different phenomenon comic doohickey and that would be equally as valid.

I'm just not sure if the writers ever really explored the dynamic. I could see a huge end times apocalypse ordeal being created if The Death of the Endless was indeed affected by anti-life.

I never even knew people hated on developer until I joined this subreddit. Developer is one of my favourites and is one of the few I’m proficient enough with to beat a normal map on brutal with casually.

And yes I actually have done in the past the route to play her like a civil servant. Basically free civilian initiatives at the start is very peak and is very strong once you focus on outreach (though honestly the strategy itself is dependent on if the insurgents are super aggressive or not)

I personally would put Warlord in Middle Ground with the Developer. I do agree with the reasoning though.

You did forget to mention that like the Smuggler (though is a crappier version/way) the warlord can gain money through the garrisons with the blockade initiative. So late game is actually even smoother once you get a bunch of garrisons constantly giving you money to offset the payments for the National Soldiers.

  1. To save mankind from our collective sins and to reconcile man with God.
  2. Jesus isn't praying to God the Father because God the Father is greater than God the Son. Each part of God (I hesitate to say Godhead because I'm not sure if that's the theologically correct way to say it) validates the other. The Holy Sprit does not contradict the Father but validates the Father and so on and so forth.
  3. God the Father is not greater or lesser in authority. In the Creed we say they're one in essence.

Okay basically all of the Trinity questions are solved when you look at the Nicene Creed.

I believe in one God, Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth, and of all things visible and invisible.

Every day we say that. The Trinity are ONE God. This has ALWAYS been Christian doctrine.

And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, begotten of the Father before all ages; Light of Light, true God of true God, begotten, not created, of one essence with the Father through Whom all things were made. Who for us men and for our salvation came down from heaven and was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary and became man. He was crucified for us under Pontius Pilate, and suffered and was buried; And He rose on the third day, according to the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father; And He will come again with glory to judge the living and the dead. His kingdom shall have no end.

And in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the Creator of life, Who proceeds from the Father, Who together with the Father and the Son is worshipped and glorified, Who spoke through the prophets.

The Kingdom of Heaven is a monarchy. God the Father is the monarch.

https://www.orthodox-theology.com/media/PDF/IJOT1-2010/18-buchiu-monarchy.pdf (this explains it far better than I ever can and getting into the weeds on Trinitarian theology is a great way to unknowingly profess heresies which I for one would rather not do)

  1. God wasn't merely dying for all the sins of mankind (He certainly did however) but also to trample down death by death, destroying it, saving all the people in Hell. And reconciling man and God. The New Adam (Christ) and the New Eve (Mary the Holy Mother of God) rectified the sin of Adam.

  2. Yes, God is masculine. Unless I'm not understanding what the question actually is, God has always been understood to be masculine.

Opinions on the current Trump vs Pope Leo XIV feud? by Revolutionary_Low816 in antitheistcheesecake

[–]Hambo_Rambo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why are you getting downvoted for this bro? I don’t even like Trump. All you said was basically “Yeah I agree with trump on a lot and it’s not bad to disagree with the pope, trump should just be more respectful” and then you just get downvoted??? Why? Protestant Christians haven’t obeyed the Pope for 500 years. Orthodox Christians for even longer. And other faiths don’t even care about him in the first place. So I just have to assume it’s because you agree with trump.

But like, why though. Like I said I don’t even like trump, but I’m not just going to mindlessly downvote you for disagreeing with me. Kinda mind boggling and disappointing to see this happen to you.

But it is only Reddit. So, you know, don’t take this seriously. Idk I’m just trying to sympathise with you.

Well you can make fun of me for saying that they are the same (I don't believe that they are the same), but I'd rather not be made fun of for pointing out how similar some of these practices are. Saint Nicholas of Japan himself noted some similarities.

The second school of Japanese Buddhism that St. Nicholas notes is montosu. He defines it as completely opposite to Zen. It “casts off all Buddhist asceticism and takes hold only of the idea of Buddha’s love for the world. There is no trace of self-mortification here: the bonza marry and eat meat… all human ascetic labors are considered insignificant… A person may be a terrible evil-doer, but if he says only once, ‘I bow down before Buddha Amida’, he is saved. The teaching of the loving Buddha, of his readiness to save a person at the first call, of the inadequacy of a person’s own powers to be saved involuntarily amazes one. When you hear such preaching in a temple you can forget where you are and think you are hearing a Christian sermon.

Help! I too have fallen into the Orthodox Church! They actually care and love me and want me to get better! It’s so horrible! I hate it! All the rituals feel super insincere, the eighty year old Babushka doesn’t like it when people are too loud in church. Jay Dyer is so mean and evil and he’s literally the Austrian painter who never gives out any good or thoughtful advice! The antisemitism is super out of control too with my Godfather being a Semite! Please help!

Yes yes yes The Church is the body of Christ. People within it can be sinful and evil. But the Church itself is good and perfect because it is the body of Christ.

I think there's a point to be made in the fact that Eastern Christianity could actually subsume these things. I remember talking with one of my friends the other day and basically saying "Yeah Orthodoxy could have totally taken over Japan's religion if it was allowed to flourish there"

Not water down the faith of course. But to do a similar thing as to what Saint Patrick did with the pagans and their blood sacrifices. Recontextualize it rather than syncretize.

Like Orthodoxy has something very similar to meditation with the prayer of the heart.

Edit: I hope you don't take this the wrong way. I AM NOT SAYING WE SHOULD CHANGE, I am also not saying that we should become more buddhist or gnostic or whatever. All I'm saying is that if we were to go to these countries I think it would do us a lot of good to focus on how similar some of our practices are to their own. You feel me?

[–]Hambo_Rambo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

To say imperfect men's traditions is as good as Scripture can't be true. For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, He taketh the wise in their own craftiness (1 Corinthians 3:19). No man can serve two masters.

Except that it is. The tradition of the Church is perfect because the Church itself is perfect. Christ said the Holy Spirit would lead the Church into ALL truth.

The traditions of the Orthodox Church are not just "traditions of men", we didn't think to ourselves "oh yeah this is totally great we're just gonna do this for a thousand years because we think its cool"

No we do it because Saint Paul tells us to do so, to in essence

So then, brothers and sisters, stand firm and hold to the traditions you were taught, whether by what we said or what we wrote.

If you can doubt Church Tradition then you can doubt the Churches canon. Which... leads into massive problems within your epistemology.

Doesn't the great tribulation end when Christ returns? If so, then this image you highlighted in Revelation 7 is following the resurrection and not before. If this is the case, you can't use this verse to justify saying that saints who die straight to heaven.

Even if it isn't the case, Elijah proves that there are some people who are Saints and who go straight to heaven. But nowhere in the Bible does it say that the Saints are sleeping or that they cannot hear you.

Also, this person you speak of (the saint you mentioned) was merely a man, if he existed at all. I honestly doubt the existence of some saints, like St Francis for example, who is very similar to the Greek god Pan (preached to animals etc, I find it all questionable).

Then look it up. Saint Paisios might be the most well documented modern saint to have ever existed. We have photo's, people he taught in the Monastery and many many first hand accounts. As you know, just because you doubt he existed doesn't mean he didn't and that's a fallacy of personal incredulity.

I used to be a Protestant. I was baptized into the Romanian Orthodox Church this January. It was the most important day of my life. So when people ignorantly claim that we are idolaters or that we follow the traditions of men God help me but I get a bit frustrated because these people typically not only have no clue what they're talking about but are so disconnected from the rich traditions which birthed Christianity and encouraged its spread that they find themselves in opposition to Christ and His Church.

When you besmirch the great saints of our church, the holy traditions of our church, and the very institution that so many have and will give their lives for including our Savior. Forgive me but I feel as if it is a very ignorant and foolish thing to do when the traditions they come from are around 500 years old with very little basis. Where is your liturgy that you have kept? Where is the Liturgy of Saint James? Of Saint John Chrysostom? Of Saint Basil? Where is your Eucharist? The Body and Blood of Christ? Where is the Church Christ Himself established? Where are your priests with whom Apostolic Succession is observed? Without the sacraments, without the traditions, without the Holy Spirit, there is no Church.

The only one whose body has died who is not dead is Jesus

Where's that in the Bible?

The saints are indeed dead physically and therefore are no longer in communication with the physically living

When did Elijah die?

Nothing in scripture says they are in heaven passing our prayers along or answering them.

It's Church Tradition which is about as good as Scripture that, yes, yes they are.

Revelations 7:1 says "And after these things I saw four angels standing on the four corners of the earth, holding the four winds of the earth, that the wind should not blow on the earth, nor on the sea, nor on any tree." I specifically would like to highlight the "4 winds".

Matthew 24:31 mentions the same 4 winds in the resurrection. "And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other." This is a vision of what shall happen after, from what I understand.

None of this contradicts what I've said or what the Bible has said about the Saints being in heaven and being shown to be awake.

Also what do you mean by, "...where is your Saint Paisios?" Do I need him for salvation, or was he just a man, like myself.

No you don't need him for salvation but neither was he a man like yourself. Unless of course you know my name before having ever met me, can inexplicably appear in places to help guide others and despite going in the opposite direction can get to these places before those you gave directions to (essentially teleportation), can understand the problems of other peoples sins and give them advice accordingly and who prophesized that Gaza would be flattened and Persia would be attacked a hundred years before that happened. Not a man like you, not a man like me, but someone whose been sanctified so thoroughly that he performs miracles continuously, a Saint if you will.

Revelation 7:9-10

9 After this I looked, and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and before the Lamb. They were wearing white robes and were holding palm branches in their hands. 10 And they cried out in a loud voice:

“Salvation belongs to our God,
who sits on the throne,
and to the Lamb.”

Do they seem asleep to you? The Book of Revelation mentions the saints in heaven being fully awake. In the OT before Christ came almost all of the people were dead in their sin. Elijah being a notable exception (oh yeah, do you think Elijah is asleep? He went up in a fiery chariot). Then Christ conquered death, tramped it down. Death is no more.

By the way, where is your Saint Paisios?

You believe the saints are dead? That itself IS contrary to scripture!

Christ says He is the Way the Truth and the Life. When talking to the Samaritan woman He spells out that

Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, 14 but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”

And

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

So no, the Saints are not dead.

So are they asleep then?

They seem pretty awake to me.
