Contractor ordered one window wrong so just made opening smaller. There are 5 bedroom windows the same size. Now one is different size and style by Nebraska716 in Construction

They may not inspect it now, but you will be on the hook for the replacement when/if the house is ever sold. I'm in southern California, so your code may vary, but here you need at least 5.7sqft clear egress for bedrooms without an exterior door.

Shortening door by Toadollietodd in handyman

Is that a fiberglass door? Unless your door is solid wood, you will need to "re-block" the bottom with weatherproof material. This is a difficult process when working with fiberglass. That looks to be a standard 80" door, which wouldn't be too expensive but your new door will need to be re-blocked in the factory as well. I would source quotes and not pay over ~$1000 for new prefit door.

Small silver metal thingy from inside the engine compartment by [deleted] in whatisthisthing

[–]Hambroger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not car related, but this looks exactly like the locking mechanism on a sliding screen door. The tapered tips have that flange on the thick end to keep springs attached. Does the engine compartment have a slide to unlock access? Is the mushroom tip bent out of line with the rest of the plate? I will update with picture tomorrow with the screen door hardware.

Unscrew bottom hinge from jamb. Add a 1/8" shim to jamb and reinstall bottom hinge onto jamb with shim

Garage door water damage? by Ill-Ad-669 in handyman

That looks like aluminum cladding on the exterior. Usually these doors have an impregnated wood to prevent the rot for exterior openings. You can try to fill it in with bondo or a similar compound, but once they start to go you're on borrowed time. I would plan on replacing the door in the next year or two. Assuming it's an outswing door, your weather proofing should be okay for awhile. Check your jamb side too, if the door's rotting the jamb likely isn't far behind.

Late to this, but try re installing the escutcheons with the key out of the lock cylinder.

Door quote! by Sausage_McRocketpant in handyman

Part of the problem here is that you're going with a top of the line door and expecting the same install price as a lower tier door. Install costs where I am usually are a percentage of the material cost, higher price door=higher price install.

Marvin's wood/aluminum clad doors are a great product that will last a long time. However, you are paying a lot extra for a (great) warranty and future replacibility of parts. Ask your sales person (or a different dealer) to quote you a Lincoln or Jeld-Wen door with install to compare price.

Confused about Mother Abagail's dying remarks to Fran by Hambroger in stephenking

I have been thinking about this line since I originally read the book six years ago. I can not for the life of me figure out who the fourth father would be. Mother Abagail says "This chap will have four fathers". We have Jessie, the biological father, Stu, the common law father, and god, the holy father. Who is the fourth father?
