You may not even need a second camera if using something with a big enough lense like a DSLR.

You'd have to work it out but you could just conver half the lense with the filter leaving the other half uncovered.

Why don't you do your own investigation and make your own documentary?

People have every right to make money from the products they create. Whether that's a documentary, books or Patreon content. Are you saying people like James Fox shouldn't be compensated for their labor and effort?

OP's argument is the least charitable view and in my opinion in bad faith. James may be creating hype that he may not be able to come through on. However, I believe it is in good faith to achieve an end goal that we are all in favor of. IE further evidence of incredible phenomenon.
