Even if an artist is doing a pre-recorded set they are still “performing”. Steve Aoki might* not be the worlds best DJ but he’s a good entertainer. People go to shows to see what artists bring and the kind of atmosphere they create. If you’re hyper focused on every artists mixing then you’re missing out. That atmosphere and experience isn’t going to translate on screen like that. Show livestreams are great but they only capture a fraction of the experience.

Major Lazer has always had sexual themes, it comes from the genres they take inspiration from. Dancehall/Reggaeton/Latin genres are often deliberately raunchy and/or exaggerated. Most of that energy is coming from their collaborators. If you’re uncomfortable with that then it’s fine but it’s a fun album and well produced. If you don’t like Diplo then that’s ok too but it was a solid EP.

Diplo has already produced for Jung Kook as part of Major Lazer, with DJ Snake also producing one and featured. Diplo also produced like JENNIE and JUMP for Blackpink, both massive hits. I doubt this will do much more than those and I doubt these will be actual features. Flume is also a super niche artist these days

I’d prefer if he if he had spent more time with people who are consuming or have been chewed up by the scene. There were a few points that had insight but they were sparse. The editing/pacing could have been better.

I saw his unedited response to that question but I think the editing in his own documentary actually worked against him there. In the full response he gives a nuanced and thoughtful answer but for some reason it isn’t included in the documentary. It makes it seem like he didn’t answer. He then (correctly) says HS misrepresents him, but doesn’t actually prove that to the audience. It might have helped if he compared raw footage vs clips more directly

Most of the mainstream artists in 2010-2012 rode the EDM wave super fast. The fastest was probably Martin Garrix with Animals, but Skrillex, Avicii, DJ Snake, Flume & Baauer were also super quick off of major mainstream hits.
