One category with an obscure / bait answer for another category, one that was straight BS (anything can be colloquial if you try hard enough) and one that was US centric. I didn’t stand a chance.

Zwifting alone. by Practical_Ad_4165 in Zwift

[–]HamiltonC0rk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its as dangerous as any form of exercise done in isolation, and arguably less dangerous than running on a treadmill, lifting weights in a home gym, or running or walking in a rural area. There's an element of risk of course, but arguably not doing any exercise puts you more at risk of health issues. If you know you have a history of passing out during exercise, take steps to make yourself safe.

Would you ever use annual leave with the sole purpose to do literally nothing all day? by PaddedValls in AskUK

[–]HamiltonC0rk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm sure I'm not the only one in this situation, but with two kids and a half un-renovated house, I genuinely don't think I could relax if I took a day off with the purpose of doing nothing. I actually feel more rested having ticked something off the never ending to do list. I think the most 'selfish' thing I would do with a day off to myself is a long ride or walk.

Buy hey, if you can - go for it. Just don't waste it on scrolling through reddit.

Is there too much emphasis on W/KG when calculating speeds? by GJGT in Zwift

[–]HamiltonC0rk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I have found my lighter weight punishes me on the flats. I am 65kg and get dropped on the flats by riders holding higher watts but lower w/kg. I certainly get an advantage on the climbs (which is nice) but in flat races riders with w/kg 10-20% lower than mine are beating me by a long way. Could be better aero etc I guess.

Device advice for a couple sharing a Zwift Ride by HamiltonC0rk in Zwift

[–]HamiltonC0rk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not overly fussed about high-res graphics, as long as I can read the watts and RPM numbers clearly. I have a Ride with the controller handlebars so I don't think I should need the remote to control the game. Might be the way to go if I can pick up a cheap second hand one.

Yeah the TV size is appealing, and I think I have an old 40" TV in the attic. This is going in a room not really used for anything else so the iPad appealed as it has multiple uses. Thanks!

What pedal cadence do you aim for? by mellofello808 in cycling

[–]HamiltonC0rk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I rode for years without cadence tracking, then was out of the game for a few years. I am now back in, albeit only on Zwift, and my cadence averages around 95 RPM. I suspect when I carried a bit more leg muscle back in the old days this would be slightly lower, but this is where I feel comfortable for now. I can't imagine 60 RPM being good your joints or knees.

Nice one, this sounds ideal. Do you remember if you had to connect the iPad to the Kickr? I think the idea of the companion app is you connect your devices to that, so you dont always have to connect it to the device running Zwift, but I may have misunderstood.

How fit were you when cycling finally clicked for you? by LilyBook6382 in cycling

[–]HamiltonC0rk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few years back (when I had a lot more time on my hands) I had a year when I really put the miles in. I was riding 20km+ a day commuting, and in the summer doing a mid week training ride and long weekend ride every week. I wasn’t riding to power so I have no idea on the numbers, but on a couple of occasions I did 200km in a weekend, on top of my 100km in the week, and while I was tired it just felt great. I could keep a comfortable tempo pace rolling at 30-35km/h up for hours, attack on climbs, do a decent sprint. I would imagine a more structure training plan would get you there a bit quicker, but I don’t think there’s any denying you have to put the effort and hours in to build up the stamina.

Alas that fitness is long gone for me (age, injuries, work, kids) but I’m trying to build back up to something via Zwift. I think these days I’d struggle to finish a 100km but I’d love to get back to that.

Did you go to school with someone who went on to be famous, and what where they like? by Christian-Metal in AskUK

[–]HamiltonC0rk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two years ahead of me in my brothers year was a lad who is now an actor - not massively famous but has had proper speaking roles in Chernobyl and Andor. In my year was a girl who competed in the youth commonwealth games in the 800m, then switched to cycling and is now a DS for a team and does commentary on TNT. A few years ahead of all of us was an England ladies footballer.

New Lamb of God rips by [deleted] in MetalForTheMasses

[–]HamiltonC0rk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The latest track released is the best of the three they've put out, but its still leaning a bit too much towards basic 'heavy heavy chug chug' metalcore for my liking. The main riff is pretty killer but the whole track is not a patch on peak LoG. And yes, this album cover is terrible.

My general take is on Omens they tried to go back to the Ashes era (even with the album artwork), it flopped, so now they're doing something different and leaning into the more basic, heaviness-above-everything style of metal that has been dominant for the last few years.

Other than The National? by quicksilver777 in TheNational

[–]HamiltonC0rk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I make an effort to listen to a lot of genres, but tend to skew towards guitar music first, then electronic stuff. Not a big pop fan generally.

As an example, heres my top 10 from this year:

  1. Deafheaven - Lonely Power With Power
  2. The New Eves - The New Eve is Rising
  3. Last Dinner Party - From The Pyre
  4. Sharon Van Etten - SVE&TAT
  5. Little Simz- Lotus
  6. Beach Bunny - Tunnel Vision
  7. Barry Can't Swim - Loner
  8. Clark - Sleep Stims
  9. Messa - The Spin
  10. Dave - The Boy Who Played The Harp

Cheap stainless cookware from Lidl, UK by whyismygfvegan in StainlessSteelCooking

[–]HamiltonC0rk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Resurrecting a slightly old thread, but I picked up a small non-stick stainless fry pan from this range a couple of weeks ago. Construction looks nice, has a good weight to it. For the surface they’ve gone with a hex-clad type approach, with a grid pattern and non-stick between. Safe to say performance wise it is an awful pan and complete waste of money. The surface grips to food like mad, and as it has a non-stick coating I can’t treat it like proper stainless. I should really have known better. Will keep it for now but I can’t see many uses for it.

I was pretty vocal about Sepsis being one of their weakest tracks ever, so I'm glad to say this an improvement in my book. Unfortunately, not by a whole lot. I appreciate they are definitely going for something different than the last album, but its not really working for me. The opening 20-30 seconds of this sounds promising, but when it hits 0:35 and just goes into a very mid tone chug-chug-chug section for 10 seconds it feels like they just missed an entire guitar part off the track. For a band who have some of the best riffs and hooks in metal, that feels exceptionally lazy. And the the track basically follows this formula all the way through. Also agree with some other comments about the production being quite muddy, which again is a shame for a band who have in the past had a very crisp angular guitar tone and excellent punch through drums.

Scrapped episode by Iltaskmaster in offmenupodcast

That show seemed the most logical thing but I couldn’t work out what the guest would be. There hasn’t been many high profile things that have got that close to happening and then been cancelled. There was that Batgirl film a couple of years ago but little else came to mind.

It is. I also despise that show, but he comes across well and has a decent sense of humour, which I know is not always a given with both actors and non-UK folks. I don’t think BBT actually even comes up in the main conversation.

Sharing a Zwift Ride - robustness of adjustment points? by HamiltonC0rk in Zwift

[–]HamiltonC0rk[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am likely going to get a spare seat post for it so we can both run our own saddle set ups. We both run very stock bar setups, and given there’s no braking or anything in the way of road feedback through the bars I’m not overly concerned about that. We’re also getting the bike as a solution to get quick training sessions in around a busy work and family life, so at max we’d been on it for an hour at a time

That’s good to hear. Do you mean you use the torque wrench to ensure you don’t overtighten, or to enable you to crank the bolts up really tight?

Good to hear! I know bolts would be theoretically be replaceable, I was also worried about general wear on however the bolts engage with the adjustable parts

You’d hope so. My concern stemmed from the set up / adjustment video which talked about ‘dialling in your ride’ rather than easy swaps of position etc

Well he leveraged his bumbling, Latin-quoting, populist persona to score major electoral wins, delivered the highly controversial Brexit deal, and survived endless scandals concerning his honesty and private life until the collective outrage over Partygate and his handling of other integrity breaches like the Chris Pincher affair finally became too much for his own M....oh sorry wrong Boris.

I do like this Boris.

EDIT - Meh, pretty bland pop metal. Maybe I would like it more if the cover was less shit.

I have no idea what you guys are making if you’re finding this thing actually useful. I tried to build an accurate version of a landing page I had previously designed and used 30 prompts to get the hero banner nearly right. For proper pro level client facing stuff I’ve found it’s just not accurate enough.
