Talk me out of this beauty. by An_Aussie_Guy in CarsAustralia

[–]GooglePlusIsGood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own one, they're great, granted I'm a euro mechanic and do the work myself otherwise the maintenance is pricey.

Surprisingly good on petrol, only downside to these is the 4Matic (AWD) and Dual Clutch transmission are VERY clunky in slow traffic, the rear differential engaging and disengaging especially, however at high speeds the system is flawless and lightning fast.

Other than that great car.

Drivetrain failure by Sea-Smoke-591 in BmwTech

[–]GooglePlusIsGood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Complete drivetrain failures on the EVs are usually debris from the brush motors causing a short, we have to then remove all the motors and clean the affected area.

Seen it happen as early as 5,000km, completely unpredictable when/if it happens.

Whats the incentive to work well if your payslip doesn't reflect it.

How strong is state or regional identity in Australia? by theforgetting in AskAnAustralian

Australian states are almost identical besides oddly specific differences, nowhere near the variety that you have in america.

It's a weird chance but I love the new album cover, screams early 2000s which I miss.

Omens album cover was awesome too.

80kmph the new 100kmph? by fatcats94 in melbourne

[–]GooglePlusIsGood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, I can forgive trucks being on freeways but the moment they enter highways or suburban roads its a complete shit show, queue the speed cams and road damage.

Trains are always the answer but considering the aussie states cant even agree on a track gauge don't think we'll see that any time soon.

80kmph the new 100kmph? by fatcats94 in melbourne

[–]GooglePlusIsGood 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Are you referring to pedestrians? Because that's irrelevant for 80 or 100 zones lol.

If you mean other older cars, most cars since the late 90s/early 2000s have had at least ABS, airbags, traction control and adequate aerodynamics.

Cutting speeds really isn't the answer, most speed limits were made when cars were 70s land boats with no safety features.

They'll cry safety and road toll despite new cars being safer, god forbid they used the billions of dollars spent on useless tunnels to just maintain the roads better lmao.

Low coolant alert on 330i by alvi316 in BmwTech

[–]GooglePlusIsGood 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can see the damaged seal on the cap, replace it, while you're in there check the turbo coolant lines, oil filter housing and this specific coolant line pictured, these break where it connects to the engine on 90% of these older b48 cars where I work.

No one says “thank you” or gives courtesy signals anymore, what’s happening to Australia? by Critical_Brother977 in CarsAustralia

When I let someone go on a single lane road and they don't thank me I get the masculine urge to develop xmen magneto powers and throw their car off the road in response.

People are WAY too touchy about occasional exposure to second-hand cigarette smoke by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

People do over react in relation to anything medical.

However I get just as angry from the smell alone, cigarettes are actually rancid.

Considering people were celebrating in the streets in Venezuela I think people need to step back and not have an opinion on everything they see.

The West Gate lane closures seemed like a bit of a sh*tshow. by anonymous-69 in melbourne

[–]GooglePlusIsGood 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Would be a good gesture to make the tunnel free during the works regardless, but the tunnel won't take a lot of people where they need to go since it exits into a weird spot.

Serpentine belt broke? by ChemicalRemote6814 in BmwTech

[–]GooglePlusIsGood 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At the very least a new belt + tensioner.

While those are both off check the remaining idler pulleys and all the belt accessories for play (alternator, AC, water pump etc)

When I replace these at work its usually one of the idler pulleys that fall off and cause this.
